Should countries encourage tourism? Tourism has a lot of benefits to every countrys economy, but surprisingly, it could be damaging too. Firstly, the desire to attract tourists to a certain area often encourages governments to improve local facilities, to a development of the country, which is good, not only for the tourists, but for inhabitants too, but over-development is that it can lead to ugly, crowded tourist spots and environmental damage. Therefore, the natural surroundings and habitat is permanently destroyed in order to make new better entertainment for tourists. Furthermore, many people claim that tourism is an important source of income, which actually is, especially for poorer countries whose industry isnt very developed, but a countrys economy could be so dependent on tourism that its possible to be weakened too, for example, when a natural disaster happens, the countrys tourism will bring little income. Secondly, tourism allows people to experience other cultures. Tourists could see how foreign people behave, dress or what their traditions and customs are, but at the same time, the inhabitants can be influenced by the tourists in many manners, such as changing their traditions, leading to cultural mixture, so the impact of tourism may destroy the local way of life. In conclusion, it is obvious that tourism has a lot of advantages for a countrys economy, but careful attention is needed in order to use them wisely.
