Dear Parents / Carers, We have 20 students competing in the District swimming carnival today at Nambour. We wish all of our swimmers the best of luck. What a beautiful day for it! TERM 1 PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS Bookings will open on Monday (2 March) and remain open until Friday (20 March). Interviews will be conducted 23 March - 3 April. Details of how to book for these interviews will be given in the next couple of weeks. READY TO LEARN PLANS This week your child brought home a Ready to Learnplan to complete with your assistance. A letter was attached explaining the reasoning behind this activity. If you could get these back to your class teacher once complete, that would be fantastic. MINILIT READING PROGRAM An invitation was sent home to 16 parents yesterday for their child to participate in the MiniLit Reading Program to start on Wednesday 26 February. Please note we have postponed the MiniLit start date until Monday 2 March. This will give you time to return the permission form and money due. ACTS OF HEART CLUB Chappy Sarah is currently working with our school and student leaders to introduce an Acts of Heartclub at North Arm. This clubs main priority is to spread Acts of Kindnessthroughout our school. They will meet once a week and then participate in some random acts of kindness. Some ideas that were shared at the meeting include: making cards to welcome new students to North Arm; making a kindness treeor North Arm Acts of the Hearttree in the library; creating a story spot to read to the preps during lunch; writing encouraging messages with chalk on the walkways to name a few. I look forward to the ripple effect that this may have on our whole school community. SRS FORMS Can you please return the SRS forms that were sent home with your child recently. This new form only needs to be completed this year and covers your childs enrolment while at North Arm. UPCOMING EVENTS Parent Reading Workshop and True Blue Day. SPORTS NEWS Hi Parents / Carers, We had a great turn out for week 1 of Runners Club. It was great to see so many students involved. It will occur each Friday until Week 10 from 8:15am to 8:45am on the bottom oval . All students are welcome. Please don't forget a hat and water bottle. Good luck to all of our students who are participating in the Nambour District Swimming Trials this Thursday at the Nambour Aquatic Centre.

Thanks Mr Mckie STEPHANIE ALEXANDER KITCHEN GARDEN NEWS….with Lis We’ve just finished making two different varieties of damper. Year 5 and 6 students made Pumpkin and Spinach Damper served with herb butter and Lemon Myrtle Lemonade. Students ground up either fresh or dried lemon myrtle leaves and added this to the lemonade. The school garden’s lemons are ripening as each week progresses. The pumpkins were ready for us after the summer holidays. Lemon Myrtle is a tree native to Australia with beautifully scented leaves.

The year 3 and 4 students made Lemon Myrtle and Sultana Damper (see photo below). This time we used dried, ground leaves made by the students last year. Look out for our Lemon Myrtle Powder that will be for sale very soon after lots of industrious grinding over the remainder of the term.

Thankyou so much for parent volunteers in both the kitchen and the garden over the last month. You are very much appreciated and please keep coming. Don’t forget hats for the garden and apron and tea towel for the kitchen. SAKG Timetable is always in the newsletter and on the corkboard outside the kitchen.

Vanessa and students have been busy mapping and suggesting new design ideas in our kitchen garden.

FIRST P AND C MEETING 2020 We had a really productive and well attended meeting last Tuesday. Thank you so much to all the parents who attended. We even had some new faces which we love. SCHOOL DISCO Thursday 19th March 5-7pm We are really pleased to announce that Dance Fever have very generously offered to DJ this disco for FREE. The kids loved the Halloween disco done by Dance Fever and we look forward to another great night. More info to come about the food shortly. BUNNINGS BBQ Sunday 22 March We have luckily managed to secure another Bunnings BBQ to raise much needed funds outside the school community. The last two have been very successful netting around $2000 each time. It’s so much easier if we can break the day down into shifts. Gerardwill soon be creating another volunteer list. All help is so appreciated. P AND C AGM Tuesday 24 March 6-8pm We are having our AGM a bit earlier this year as we also have a normal monthly meeting directly afterwards. We would love as many people as possible to come along and join our vibrant P & C . P&C EXECUTIVE NOMINATION The AGM for the North Arm State School is coming up on Tuesday 24 March 6-8pm Nominations are open for all executive roles - President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary. These roles play an important role in progressing projects which make a positive difference to our children as well as being a key link between parents and the school. To nominate you need to complete a nomination form and submit it by Friday 20 March. You can be nominated by another P&C member or by yourself. The form requires a mover and seconder - the P&C executive members will be happy to undertake this for you if required. If you have any questions or would like more information please contact us at [email protected] That’s all for now! Aveen

to Jai, Joey, Baden, Beau, Blake W, Finley, Blake J, Slater and Hunter who recently won the Grade 3/4 Championship trophy for the NYU Schools Challenge.

PBL did you know……..

that your child brought home a

Ready to Learn Plan last week? I

eventually found my copy under a

damp hat and a banana peel in the

bottom of the school bag.

How did you go filling it out together? I found out things

about my child’s triggers and reactions that I didn’t know

before. After we discussed positive ways to resolve

frustrations at school, we decided that we’re going to try

to implement some of them at home as a family. This

was really helpful as our son feels empowered because

HE has made the choice of how to manage his

behaviours.

Here’s hoping you too find success going

through the Plan with your children.

Til next week,

At North Arm, our motto is Life Long Learning for Heart, Mind and Earth. In 2020 we would like to begin an initiative driven by our students called ‘North Arm’s Acts of the Heart’. It is our intention to band together as a North Arm State School community to support others, and have our students learn more about the values of kindness, compassion and generosity. Our student leaders and Chappy Sarah have already met as a team who are developing a range of ideas and actions that demonstrate these values, and let people and our community know that here at North Arm State School, WE CARE. Each term we are planning on organising a whole school event where we want to raise money and awareness for current issues or community organisations to give back as a school. This term we will introduce our ‘Acts of the Heart’ with ‘True Blue Day’ in support of recent bush fires throughout our country, but more locally our Rural Fire Brigade. Children have two ways to donate money and be part of our school wide day or awareness and fundraising! We would invite all students within the school to come dressed for their school day in as much blue as they can! This will show our ‘True Blue Spirit’ and spark discussions about the resilience, mateship and connectedness that our country and people are known for. The second part is an optional sausage sizzle at lunch time. For $2.00 your child can purchase a sausage sizzle for lunch on the day. We will put out order forms closer to the date. We are looking forward to a fun day together for all the right reasons, and look forward to further ‘Acts of the Heart’ in the future.
