This is the story of Cornwall Council. It gives an overview of our plans for the next four years 2010 – 2014.If you would like more detail, the full business plan is our website at www.cornwall.gov.uk/businessplan. And to make it more interesting we have also made a short animated version of the plan which is also on our website.
What is the national situation?
Where are we now?The good... Access to council services is better.
With 23 one stop shops and the out and about service we’ve more than doubled the number of local places where you can see the council.
The website is much better.
Telephone lines are open longer - in the evenings and on Saturdays.
We have some good services and are doing excellent partnership work such as Newquay Safe.
The bad... Our reputation is not good. We have some failing services.
Our income levels are falling.
Public spending cuts. Councils must focus on vulnerable people and communities, and give all residents good value for money. The Government wants all public services to work together.
What’s important? What is our vision for the future?People have told us that top priorities for
Cornwall are:
To improve public services for the people of Cornwall year on year, delivering value for money and helping Cornwall to thrive.
To create a robust and sustainable council that delivers good services in new ways.

The future
The future is bright! We want Cornwall to be in charge of its own destiny and being a strong, high performing Council will help us do this.
Cornwall Council will be smaller. We will deliver lots more services jointly with partners and through other organisations rather than doing everything ourselves.
Finding the services you need in Cornwall will be more convenient as the council, police, health and other bodies plan and deliver services together.
