Sherwood Art WeekSat 20–Sun 28 June, 2015 Sherwood, Nottingham
Yarn BombingOnce again we plan to decorate Sherwood with some more brightly coloured craft creations. With support from many talented local residents, local schools and organisations it is set to be another fantastic display!
Local schoolsCarrington Primary, Haydn Primary, Seely Primary and Nursery and Nottingham Free School are all taking part in a variety of activities before and during Sherwood Art Week. They include making Artist Trading Cards, book crossing, working with Fairy Doors and yarn bombing. Seely Primary and Nursery are focusing on performance arts this year.
Performances ‘Music for a Summer’s Afternoon’, a concert by Music for Everyone’s Daytime Voices and the Year 2 Choir from Seely Primary School. Sherwood URC, Thurs 18 June at 2pm - 4pm. All donations to Seely School Sensory Room. Untold Rhythm Kiosk, Sat 20 June Burlington Jazz St John’s Carrington, Sat 27 June, 7.15pm
Creative Quarter Fairy DoorsFrom Christmas in Hockley to Summer in Sherwood, fairies are on tour. With the help of local artists a number of small magical folk customised their front doors and have taken up residence in shops and venues around Sherwood. Do you believe in fairies? What about elves, pixies or imps? Can you find their homes, who do you think dwells behind the secret doors and what stories could they tell?
Sherwood LibraryOnce again, the Library will be liaising with local schools (and the fairy door artists!) to display work created for Sherwood Art Week. Last year, 900 children visited the library during Sherwood Art Week and enjoyed looking at the Art in Shop Windows. Book crossing SAW book lovers will be leaving books in and around Sherwood for you to take, read and leave again for someone else to enjoy. You can find out more about book crossing at www.bookcrossing.com
Thanks to all the local Sherwood Art Week volunteers who encourage creativity locally!

Sherwood Art Week is an annual week-long celebration of local creativity, now in its 7th year!
A group of local artists and residents come together each year to organize a vibrant, friendly community festival with the aim of showcasing artists’ work and encouraging local people to get creative. We open with the Secret Garden Craft Fair (page 6) at Sherwood United Reformed Church on Saturday 20 June.
Art in Shops runs throughout the week with 67 artists displaying their work in shop windows. All the artists taking part are listed within this brochure so if you see something you would like to buy or to discuss your own commission, please do contact the artist directly.
There are inspiring and affordable taster Workshops (page 4) at various venues in Sherwood throughout the week. The workshops are always very popular and you need to book your place in advance!
Exhibitions (page 10) will take place on the final weekend Friday 26 – Sunday 28 June at Sherwood Methodist Church, The Place Activity Centre and St John’s, Carrington.
To round the week off, we are holding our second Remarkable Recycling Gala (page 16) at Sherwood Community Centre, on Sunday 28 June 2015.
A huge thank you to all the volunteer residents and artists who make Sherwood Art Week possible. Thanks also to all the businesses and churches who get involved and offer support. We hope you enjoy this year’s events and activities and feel inspired to take part!

Since June 2014 The Place has benefited from free consultations with the Real Creative Futures programme. Creative Business Adviser, Jon Archard, helped to identify a new service the Centre could offer to the local artistic community while improving the use of its facilities and general profile.
SAR Membership allows participation in studio sessions, exhibitions, seminars, skills-sharing, reviews, portfolio work, model sessions and other activities as they evolve.
Open two days every week from 10am to 4pm.

PROTECTING PEOPLE’S LIVELIHOODS AND BUSINESSES
Sherwood Art Week is organised by volunteers!
Each year, there is an opportunity for new people to come on board and bring their own energy and enthusiasm to the team. So whether you are a local resident, artist or first time visitor, if you are passionate about art and want to connect with your local community, come and join us for SAW2016! Thank you to all our sponsors, to the shops for their shop windows and to the churches who offer exhibition space. A special thanks to all the volunteer artists, performers, core group and subgroups who have made SAW2015 happen.
Information correct at time of going to print. Check our website www.sherwoodartweek.co.uk for latest events
