Early in December we began to plan toward our Savior's Birthday

    a

    drama

    of the

    Christmas

    story in

    Luke

    This

    was

    done

    our friends,

    bought

    gifts for

    each

    other, and

    had

    a beautiful fellowship

with the other Qiristians here on Christmas

    Jesus on

    Sunday

cupcake for eadi child, plus a few other goodies to go along* They were

    all so

    thrilled

    and happy

    to learn

of the birth of Jesus and to be able

    to have a party

    in

    His

    honor*

    They

When we, the Robert E. Shellon I nmily decided

    logo

    into

    full time Christian

    service,

    as foreigti nmsionaries,

    ive

    sold our

farm in Indiana and went to particifxite in a new ivork in San

    Juan, PuertoRico

    tvliere

we were blessed to see the Lord begin

several new areas of work, not only a missionarv training

    center

bu t also a new chu rc h and a Christian

    school

    IVe

served there three years, as missionaries, training on the job,

    but also as students.

received our Bible training at Inter

national Christian University ((k)llege of World

    Mission)

    and

    Bobgraduated with a two yenr

    A.A.

    degree. He was ordained

by our home congregation. Young s Chapel Christian Church

in Indiana and the next spring, we left Puerto Rico to begin a

    new

    work

in Costa Rica, a small countrY in Central America

    just north

    of

    Pananui.

begin by enrolling in the Sfxinish Languag Institute in

San Jose, where ive studied our first year. Our children were

also learning Spanish and how to do their school work in it.

During this time Bob was able to make several survey trips to

    the different parts

    of

the country, to find out just where the

Lord would have us to begin. finally, prayerfully, settled

on a town called Liberia, in the northern most fxirt

    of

    Costa

Rica, in an area called Guanacasle, one hour south of the

    Nicaraguan

    border on the Pan

    American

    Ilighivay. This area

has very little Christian work, ivith only two small Kvangelical

churches in a totvn of about 16,000 people. The climate in

lAberia is very hot, with a dry season

    and

    a rainy season.

are at sea level and not too far from the Pacific Ocean. The

area is mostlyfarming. Theygrow cotton, sufmr. rice

    and

    a lot

of cattle. Our children are sludving in on all school

and their school rear runs from March to Novemt- as the

seasons are just backward from the Slates. The pi nple here

arc generally very poor, but very hard ivorking and honest.

The town of Liberia is becoming more modern yearly.

The Lord has ble.s.sed us this fxist year with an airplane

Bob to use when going into the back country to the a

where there are no roads or the roads arc so bad they can

be traveled by horseback. Our main thrust so ja r has bee

gel acquainted with the different small towns and the peo

    pa.ssingout tracts

    and

    Bibles

    and

    generally sowing gosfwl s

While here in Liberia, we have had a Bible Club in our ho

and a week of DVBS Day Camp for children, in our back

We also begin a Suniiay School for children in an area clo

our home. The very first Sunday, November 6, 1977, we

a dozen children to help us start. Now after just six mo

    we are having over

    40

    children each week. PRAISE

    LORD A lot

    of

these children have never heard the B

stories or the love,of Jesus and it is such a joy to teach t

are at the point in the work where wefeel the Lord

he sendinghelp soon. The. two most, important qualifica

needed are: a true calling to serve the Lord in Latin Am

and the other one is to speak Spanish. would stro

advise anyone interested, to consider going to the iMUg

    Institute in San

    Jo.se

for the first year. If anvone is intere

in coming to work with us here, please write to us and w

be glad to give, more information. Our very busiest month

    the months

    of

    December, January

    and

    February (as th

summer lime here) and also. Lord willing, wewill

    have

    a

of DVBS Day Camp in July, 1979 when the children ha

    two week vacation

    from

school. We want to extend an in

tion to anyone interested in the work here to come and

with us had three ladies visit with us this lastyear.

    lady

    ivas here

    during

our week of camp and was a big h

    ivould appreciate

    Your
