FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Fort Dodge, Iowa
4th Sunday after Pentecost June 28, 2020
CALL TO WORSHIP
Welcome one another in Jesus’ name,
For Christ is truly present among us.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
The mercies of God never come to an end.
For freedom Christ has set us free.
Now we live by the Spirit of God.
GATHERING SONG #138 “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!”
WELCOME
MORNING PRAYER
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Almighty God, you are our refuge and strength. Your
faithfulness stretches to the skies. You are faithful when all else
fails. But Lord, we are not faithful to you. We fail to acknowledge
your steadfast love. We don’t give you the thanks you deserve,
and we look for quick fixes and cheap substitutes for your
grace. Please help us to see that we have everything we’ll ever
need in you. Please forgive us for our inability to recognize you
as our primary comfort and source of strength.
Time of silent reflection and confession…
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
Mercy, refuge, vindicator, savior, faithfulness, glory, exalted
– these are words used to describe God in our Psalm today.
Even though we make mistakes, friends, believe the good
news today. God is our refuge whose faithfulness stretches
to the skies. In Jesus Christ, our sins have been forgiven.
Thanks be to God! Amen!

Prayer of Dedication
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from the Confession of Belhar “We believe that Christ’s work of reconciliation is made
manifest in the church as the community of believers who have
been reconciled with God and with one another. We believe
that unity is, therefore, both a gift and an obligation for
the church of Jesus Christ; that through the working of God’s
Spirit it is a binding force, yet simultaneously a reality which
must be earnestly pursued and sought: one which the people
of God must continually be built up to attain.
We believe that this unity must become visible so the world
may believe that separation, enmity and hatred between
people and groups is sin which Christ has already conquered,
and accordingly that anything which threatens this unity may
have no place in the church and must be resisted.”

Share your quarantine stories with us!
We want to hear from you! Life has looked a lot different for most
of us over the past couple months. We’ve witnessed the good and
bad sides of humanity. We’ve helped others and been helped
ourselves. Some of us have spent the time alone while others have
been spending more time with loves ones than ever before.
Regardless of our circumstances, we are assured of one thing… God
has been at work and present in our lives through it all.
We want to share your stories! Tell us how you’ve seen God at work
in your life during the pandemic. Tell us how your perspective on life
has changed or tell us how you’ve witnessed others showing God’s
love. Send us an email to [email protected]. We’ll share some of
your stories on social media, in the Enews, newsletter and bulletins.
