Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
- Matthew 28:19
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preachedin all the world as a testimony to all the nations,
and then the end will come.
- Matthew 24:14
a message from our president
REV. JOHN B. SORENSEN
Since its beginning, the mission of Evangelism Explosion has been to equip believers through
the local church to share their faith and multiply. Sadly, many people in the Church no longer believe that witnessing works.
Several years ago, I read the book, Lost in America, which claimed more than 50% of American churches didn’t lead one single person to Jesus Christ the entire year.
That’s why we have launched a campaign, right here in America, to “Awaken Churches. Change Cities. And Transform Culture.” As individuals learn how to share their faith with confidence, they will impact their neighborhoods,
communities, and their cities with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which will ultimately transform the culture of our nation.
I believe the Church is the vehicle that God will use to fulfill His Great Commission. At EE, our job is to engage the church to help it reach that calling.
Thank you for joining us today and taking the first step in making this happen in your city. Together, we can impact our world for Jesus Christ!

TWO MAIN REASONS WE DON’T SHARE
1. ATTITUDE
Bad attitudes toward outsiders
2. APTITUDE
Don’t know what to say or how to say it
In a recent study, LifeWay Research found that most people don’t mind a friend sharing about their faith.
79% of 2,000 Unchurched Americans agreed when asked:
“If a friend of mine really values theirfaith, I don’t mind them talking about it.”

SHARE YOUR STORY
END YOUR GOD-STORY with something about the confidence you have concerning Heaven and eternal life. Example: “The greatest thing about all of this is that I know for sure that if I died today, I’m going to Heaven.”
SHARING GOD STORIES
If we are going to ask a person a personal, spiritual question, it is important to set the correct context. Always share something about your own personal, spiritual life before asking someone about theirs. Be open with others if you expect them to be open with you! Develop your story at whatsmystory.org.

TWO DIAGNOSTIC QUESTIONS
ICEBREAKER QUESTIONS:On a scale of 1 to 10, how much peace do you have in your life today?
Would it change in either direction if God were more a part of your life?
Listen carefully and then share in one sentence about the peace you have; and ask, “May I share with you how I discovered this peace?”
DIAGNOSTIC QUESTION 1: May I ask you a question?
Have you come to the place in your spiritual life where you know for certain that if you were to die today you would go to Heaven, or is that something you would say you’re still working on?
“The Bible says we can know for sure that we’re going to Heaven when we die. It says, ‘I write these things to you . . . so that you may know that you have eternal life’” I John 5:13.
“May I share with you how I came to know I have eternal life and how you can know it too?”
“May I ask you another question so I can be more clear for you?”

Diagnosis Treatment
DIAGNOSTIC QUESTION 2: “Suppose something happened and you found yourself standing before God and He said to you, “Why should I let you into My Heaven?” What would you say to Him?”
Diagnose the spiritual CONDITION of your friend from the answers they give you:
Always repeat and confirm their answer to this second question before you share the Gospel. It gives both you and your friend a clear understanding of their current spiritual condition and need.
Always get permission to ask personal questions and you will never be seen as being “pushy” or “trying to push religion down someone’s throat.”

LEADING IN COMMITMENTTHE HAND PRESENTATION
CLARIFY UNDERSTANDING BY ASKING: Does this make sense to you?
RED Light Response: “No it doesn’t.” This is rare if you have been sensitive to your friend’s responses.
YELLOW Light Response: “Well . . . I’m not sure.” Review each point briefly asking if “that” makes sense to them.
GREEN Light Response: “It sure does!” Lead your friend in commitment by asking the following . . .
LEAD TO COMMITMENT BY ASKING:Would you like to receive the gift of eternal life?
We use the term “eternal life” to mean life now and forever, which avoids other more controversial terms such as “saved,” “born again,” etc.
It is helpful to set the stage for this question with something like, “You have just heard the greatest story ever told, about the greatest offer ever made, by the greatest Person who has ever lived. And the question I believe God would have me ask you right now is this: Would you like to receive this free gift of eternal life?”
Walk through pages 16-25 in the DO YOU KNOW? tract as you guide your friend in their response.
Show them what steps they can take. Help them record their decision and sign as a witness. Close in prayer for them to grow as He leads . . .
