Coming Soon! Your child has been busy making beautiful artwork that can be made into many fun products such as magnets, t-shirts, mouse pads, ornaments and much more! Coming home to you soon is the Art fundraiser called Square 1 Art. Square 1 Art takes your child’s artwork and makes it into great products for you to purchase. These products are wonderful keepsakes and gifts for family and friends. Celebrate your child’s artistic achievement and support our school at the same time! The money raised from this fundraiser will enable the art teachers to purchase supplies for the art rooms.

On Friday, October 28, from 7:45-11:00 a.m., we will be collecting Reflections entries. In order to be eligible to be submitted for judging, entries must be received no later than 11:00 a.m. All submissions must include the Student Entry Form that came home with your student in their Wednesday folder. Silver Knight Science 2016 will begin our labs with 2nd Grade on Wednesday, Nov.2
Calling all fifth and fourth grade parents or anyone interested in working with our silver knights as they spend part of their day exploring hands-on Science experiments! You do not have to be a rocket scientist to help. All of our labs are planned and ready to go. We simply need more hands and eyes to set up, clean up and help keep the experiments running smoothly so that the students can focus on learning!

Family: I have been married to my fabulous husband, Greg for 17 years. We have two amazing children: Our first born, Avery is 11 in 6th grade at Wood Creek Junior High. She loves all things music, technology and reading. Our son, Joshua, 7 is a first grader at Wolman Elementary. He is all boy and into Pokémon, Tae Kwon Do, video games and mischief. We also have two large fur babies: Zeus who is a Great Dane/ Catahoula mix and Koda, who is a Shepard/ Husky mix.
Education: I graduated from Texas A&M University. WHOOP! I studied education and graduated with a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies.
What is your favorite moment you have ever had
as a teacher or a student? A few years into teaching 4th grade, my class was having a book talk about a novel we were studying in class. As we were sitting around discussing our thinking, one student made an out-of-the-box statement that surprised the class. The statement was just a different way of looking at the topic. While her peers didn't all agree with her thinking, it was an impactful teaching moment. She was able to bravely and comfortably say what she was thinking and I was able to encourage everyone that while we all may not agree with everyone's answers, we can be good listeners and that there will be times when what we say may not be the popular answer but to be confident in what we think. So ironically, my best teaching moment was not actually the academics but how to be a supportive peer as well as confident student.
What is the weirdest job you have ever had? The weirdest job I ever had was being a dancing mouse (insert popular kids' party place here)
Why did you become a teacher? It's going to sound cliché, but I became a teacher because of the impact several teachers had on me throughout my educational career. My 5th grade social studies teacher, who I still keep in touch with, made learning fun! Her connections and relationships to her students were real and authentic. This goes for my high school English teacher as well. These two ladies exemplified a passion for their craft and they "got" their kids. If you were not a teacher today, what would your
career be?
Travel Journalist because I enjoy learning about new places.
Where is your favorite place to travel? Isla de Roatan, Honduras because of the breathtaking views, picturesque beaches and the people. The culture is so warm, friendly and very humble. They realize and appreciate all the things they have! What three traits define you? Positive, organized, thoughtful What is the most important lesson you have
learned in life that you would like to share with
your students?
Be kind. Plain and simple. Each of us comes from different places, with different stories and different experiences. Kindness bridges all the differences.
If you could have anyone (living, dead or fictional) as your principal, who would it be? Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes- just think of the fun we would have!

Family: I have 3 wonderful children. My son Collin is 28 and currently working on his PHD is Economics at The University of Texas. He is also a guitar player in an Austin band. My daughter Haley is 25 and teaches High school Spanish in Cyfair ISD. My daughter Abbey is 24 and works for a P.R. firm in Dallas as a graphic designer.
Education: The University of Texas with a degree in Elementary Education.
What is your favorite moment you have ever had
as a teacher or a student?
There are too many to pick just one. I will say that opening Shafer Elementary is very high on my list of favorites!!!
Where would you like to travel in the future? Africa and Australia

learned in life that you would like to share with
your students?
You can be anything you want to be!!!

I wish I lived on a farm! What is your favorite thing to do in your free
time?

Why did you become a teacher? Teaching is in my blood. I knew I wanted to be a teacher as soon as I started school at age 5.

career be?

What three traits define you? Dedicated, Competitive, Determined Who has inspired you the most or had the biggest
influence on you? Why?
My grandmother. She lived live to the fullest and never let life bring her down.
What is the biggest misconception about teachers?
We get 3 months off in the summer and teaching is so easy.
If you could have anyone (living, dead or fictional) as your principal, who would it be? Where is your favorite place you have traveled? Galapagos Islands. I saw so many things I will never see again!!!
