ELECTRIC WIRE ROPE HOISTS
Now available with approvals for Class 1, Division 2, Groups A, B, C & D, Temperature Class T4
The SH Ex wire rope hoist
The SH Ex wire rope hoist is a leader in lifting and crane technology all over the world. Precision engineered, these hoists are built for reliable operation, high efficiency, and long service life.
Operators, crane manufacturers, and system manufacturers benefit from the hoist’s modular design that allows configuration of the hoist and crane system to meet exact application needs. Complete with a low-headroom trolley, the STAHL SH Ex is ideal for applications with space limitations.
The SH Ex is available for load capacities from 1000 lbs to 30 tons in five frame sizes with 26 load capacity variants. These wire rope hoists are available as deck mount models, monorail trolleys, and double girder trolleys for standard cranes, customized cranes, or special systems.
Various customized designs are available for use in certain environmental conditions. IP66 or NEMA 4/4X protection is available for outdoor hoists without a protective roof or if the hoist is exposed to water. If the risk exists for condensation formation or extremely low temperatures, panel heaters can be added. The SH Ex wire rope hoist can even be configured to effectively function in explosive atmospheres. Upon request, the entire hoist is available in an explosion-protected design for Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21, Zone 22, as well as Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C & D, Temperature Class T4. We are a global market leader with decades of experience.

The models and travel carriage variants
A variety of available models and trolley options for the SH Ex wire rope hoist opens up numerous possibilities. Systems can be tailored to your specific requirements as stationary hoisting or towing equipment for use with trolleys, or for special systems. Trolleys are equipped with two travel speeds as standard with additional speeds available as options. Compact construction and extremely short approach dimensions help make optimal use of a restricted space.
Double-grooved rope drumWhen true vertical lift is required, the double-grooved rope drum (right-/left-hand thread) model can be used both in stationary form and with double girder trolley.

DKE articulated trolleyThe DKE articulated trolley is available for frequent travel around bends and narrow radii. Depending on radius of bend, runway flange width, or application, it is equipped with one or two travel motors. The DKE articulated trolley is designed for load capacities up to 10 tons.
KE monorail trolleyThe KE monorail trolley is used on monorail runways and single girder overhead traveling cranes. The low headroom of the trolley makes long hook paths possible even in low-ceilinged rooms.
OE double girder trolleyThe OE double girder trolley is intended for use on double girder overhead traveling cranes. The extremely compact construction makes very low approach and headroom dimensions possible. The double girder trolley is available with various track gauges for the whole load capacity range.
UE monorail trolleySpecially designed for small clearances, the monorail trolley has a narrow width. It is used on monorail runways and single girder overhead traveling cranes.
Deck mount modelThe SH Ex wire rope hoist can be used as stationary hoisting or towing equipment, for example in systems manufacture. Depending on the application, the rope lead-off angle, the attachment of the hoist motor, and mounting position of the hoist can be adjusted.

The technology
Advanced, reliable technology is built into every SH Ex wire rope hoist. The nearly maintenance-free components of the modular wire rope hoist are optimally matched to each other, providing continuous productivity, high efficiency, and long service life. One of the most important characteristics of this wire rope hoist is the arrangement of the motor, gear, and drum on one axis. This narrow construction is particularly suitable for systems manufacturing and can be used in restricted spaces.

TDC Twin Drive Design The TDC Twin Drive Design is the uncompromising solution for hoists complying with DIN EN 14492-2, Annex B. Hoists in TDC design are intended for the transport of molten metals and for use in high-risk applications: acids, alkalis, gases, or transport over gas and acid pipelines. They are equipped as standard with two motor-gear units. Both motors are always synchronously controlled. The brakes mounted on the two motors are designed so that in an emergency each one is capable of braking or holding the load by itself. The two brakes are activated in conjunction with one another and act as operating and holding brakes. On twin drive design hoists, all drives are monitored by STAHL CraneSystems condition monitoring systems.

SH Ex wire rope hoist and crane components in explosion-protected design for extremely low temperatures
In winter, temperatures can fall to -67 °F in many regions of the world. This can affect electronics, mechanics, and the crane component materials. STAHL CraneSystems has developed a non-standard solution especially for an extremely low temperature range.
The hoisting gear and control of the wire rope hoist are in thermally insulated housings. As soon as external sensors measure temperatures below -5 °F, the explosion-protected panel heater in the housing switches on. Panel heaters in all motors reliably prevent icing, condensation, and material embrittlement.
The crane system can be radio controlled. However, at temperatures below -4 °F, the control switches automatically from radio to manual operation. If temperatures drop below -40 °F, the crane switches off automatically.
The catwalk along the crane bridge is equipped with a handrail on both sides for safe maintenance work in snow and ice. The platforms over the crane endcarriages protect the travel drives and facilitate climbing onto the trolley.

The explosion-protected SH Ex wire rope hoist
The safety of people and machines in areas subject to gas and dust explosion hazards is our top priority. With decades of experience, research, and development, we are internationally known for our expertise in explosion protection technology.
Our products hold approvals from the Federal Physico-Technical Institute (PTB) and other testing institutes in many countries. Our hoisting technology ranks among the safest on the market in the chemical, petrochemical, food processing, pharmaceutical, power supply, shipbuilding, and offshore and natural gas liquefaction industries (LNG).
We produce all components of the explosion-protected hoists, from motor and brake to controls and control pendants. This ensures complete, high-quality explosion protection, which crane and system manufacturers have relied on for years. We adhere to strict ATEX, IECEx, and NEC regulations on mechanical and electrical explosion-protected models.
