JESUS, REMEMBER ME
Our Lenten journey of conversion has brought us to the holiest week of the Church year. With palm branches in hand we enter the holy city of Jerusalem, proclaiming, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” From this grand entrance into the city, we follow the Lord Jesus as he shares his last meal with his disciples, institutes the Eucharist, is arrested, betrayed, and killed. Each year this celebration of Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion plunges us into the saving mystery of Christ’s death and resurrection. The Lord’s forgiveness of the repentant thief reminds us that reconciliation awaits those who put their faith in Christ. Let the repentant thief’s words become our own this day: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” (Luke 23:42). © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.

There is a certain amount of weariness that comes with waiting. Weariness is not the same as tiredness, since being tired is a condition of the body. Weariness is a condition of the heart, where there have been just too many disappointments, broken promises or continual defeats, causing a loss of energy. With the unexpected election of Pope Francis, I believe that weariness is already giving way to encouragement towards “rebuilding the church.” Our hope is inspired by these observations and actions:
Pope Francis wore a simple white cassock, He asked for our blessing, He rode a bus with the cardinals to pay his hotel bill, He spoke personally with the hotel staff, He refused the “papal” seat at the table and sat with the cardinals, He walked across the room to bless a cardinal in a wheel chair, He crossed a street after Mass to talk with children on a playground, He asked the Argentineans not to come to Rome for his inauguration but instead, give money to the poor. For the first time since the Great Schism in 1054, an Orthodox Patriarch, Bartholomew I, attended the
Pope’s inaugural Mass. Those of us who have been weary for a long time have very high expectations from this Pope. Some of us expect immediate changes—perhaps more changes than are humanly possible! Nonetheless, change has begun. The Holy Father has sent out refreshing signals for bishops to get out of their mansions, for priests to become much more pastoral in ministering and serving parishioners, and for the laity to be holy and concerned for the poorest of the poor. His messages clearly involve and require humility, inclusiveness, mercy and love. This obviously includes being less judgmental and more open to living and acting as Jesus taught us to live.
Because of Pope Francis, weariness is giving way to hope. At his first Mass as Pope, Francis preached mercy and forgiveness. He said “Mercy is the Lord’s most powerful message.” Many of the cardinals expect the new pontiff to be a reformer by getting the Roman Curia under control. The cardinals want: Greater transparency, both internally and externally, Greater accountability and Greater efficiency.
With all that the Church has been going through in recent years, many of us are weary when we hear more about church laws, rather than about the love of Christ. Because many of us have such weary hearts, our own parish community (during these past 6 weeks of Lent) has encouraged you to re-energize your heart. You were invited to have a bigger Loving Heart, a more Hopeful Heart, a greater Listening Heart, a deeper Prayerful Heart, a sensitive Forgiving Heart and this week, as we prepare for Holy Week, to have a very Compassionate Heart. Please give prayerful thought to participating in all of our Holy Week Services. The schedule of our services can be found on page 9 of this week’s bulletin.
With grateful hearts for the ministry of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, and optimistic hearts for Pope Francis, may you and your family have a Blessed Holy Week.

News from the Padre/ Noticias de Nuestro Sacerdote

ROSARY—Make a Note! Imagine what might happen if every Catholic in the world would pray a Rosary on the same day! We have an example in October of 1573, when Europe was saved from the invasion of the mighty Turkish fleet, by a unified praying of the Rosary! SO, on Good Friday March 29, 2013, let us all pray a Rosary for peace in the world. If possible, please pray your Rosary between noon And 3 p.m. Also, please e-mail this message to every Catholic on your address list, and ask them to pass it along to every Catholic on their lists. Let us unite in praying one of the most powerful prayers in existence, for peace, on one of the holiest days in our Church year.

The Matt Maher Concert was awesome! On Saturday, a group of our teens and young adults traveled to Holy Trinity Parish in El Dorado Hills, California for an amazing show of praise and worship music!
Matt Maher, writer of “Your Grace is Enough” along with many other well known praise and worship songs, put on a great show to about 500 people! I want to thank not only our drivers for volunteering their time, but to the teens
for choosing to use their Saturday night to praise and worship Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! You are awesome!
