Spain is recognised worldwide as a sizeable producer of essential oils and F&F ingredients. During the Study Tour you will meet Spanish essential oil producing, processing and exporting companies; see the production and processing of at least 16 different products; visit six areas and stay in some of Spain’s most beautiful cities. The products will include eucalyptus globulus, cistus, gum labdanum, helichrysum, thyme, pine, turpentine, lavender, lavandin, spike lavender, almond, hazelnut, grape seed, citrus oils, cypress and lentiscus. The areas visited will include Seville, Huelva, Segovia, Guadalajara, Madrid, Barcelona, Lleida, Girona and Emporda. From the south to the north of the peninsula you'll be able to see different oils, exclusive methods of extraction and very singular qualities.

First: to gain an intimate knowledge of the production and processing facilities for a number ofessential oils produced and processed in Spain. For eight days you will not only be a witnessbut also an active participant in the process of the production of various essential oils as wellas other products associated with the Spanish flavour and fragrance ingredients sector.

Second: the Tour will provide an opportunity for delegates to meet up with producers,processors, importers and exporters from Spain.

Third: IFEAT Study Tours enable delegates to meet with other flavour and fragrance industrypeople from a variety of countries. There were participants from 20 countries on the 2016 and2017 USA and Bulgaria Study Tours.

Fourth: participants will also learn about Spain, which has a fascinating history and culture. Ithas a rich heritage of traditional music, dance, crafts, costumes and cuisines and a rich history.

Finally: the aim is to achieve these objectives in just over a week out of the office.

STUDY TOUR OBJECTIVES

Spain

THE ROUTEDelegates will meet up in Seville on Friday 15th June and depart from Barcelona on Saturday23nd June. During the Tour, participants will travel by train or luxury coach from Seville toHuelva, Segovia, Guadalajara, Madrid, Barcelona, Lleida, Girona and Emporda.

The distances and travelling times are not too long. The total distance is approximately 1,500km and, thanks to the use of high-speed trains, the longest journey will not exceed three hours.However, the schedule will be busy with most time being spent visiting factories and fields. Youwill stay at some excellent hotels whilst enjoying both traditional and international cuisines.

WHY SPAIN IN JUNE? The timing of the Tour has been selected to match the harvesting and processing of someSpanish essential oils.

Climate-wise mid-June is a very good time to visit; the weather conditions will facilitate mobility.

Mid-June is a time when Spanish companies are able to show delegates around theiroperations and be available for detailed discussions.

STUDY TOUR COSTS, BOOKING AND CANCELLATION POLICY

SPAIN STUDY TOUR - 15-23 JUNE

Tour CostEach participant will pay €4,400 for the Tour. Thischarge per person covers eight nights in single roomaccommodation in good quality hotels, all programmemeals and receptions, transportation during the Tour,including transfer back to Barcelona airport at the endof the tour and tour guides. IFEAT is not responsiblefor booking flights to and from Seville/Barcelona/Girona, Spain; this is the responsibility of the individualdelegate. Please note that transfers from SevilleAirport to the hotel on Day 1 and to any airport otherthan Barcelona at the end of the Tour are not included.Taxis are readily available but if required pre-bookedtransport can be arranged via the appointed travel agent.

Qualifications and Restrictions on Participation

IFEAT Study Tours are extremely popular events andplaces fill up very quickly. In order to show fairnessand an equal opportunity for all, please refer to theinformation below.

• Participation is restricted to personnel from IFEAT member companies and only one person per

member company will be permitted to attend. In order to qualify, it is necessary that the member company has paid its annual membership subscription to date including those current at the time of application for a place on the tour and atthe date of the tour.

• IFEAT reserves the right to cancel any additional bookings from the same member company andplace them on a waiting list.

• Delegates must be at least 21 years old. • No accompanying persons are permitted. • Bookings will be accepted by IFEAT on a first come

first served basis. • Delegates will only be registered for the Study Tour

once full payment has been received by IFEAT.

Potential participants will be required to agree to certain conditions prior to their acceptance on the Study Tour (see IFEAT Participation Policy on the website).

Cancellation PolicyA 50% refund will be paid on a cancellation received in writing by the IFEAT Secretariat by noon (12.00 hours) UK time on 31st March 2018. No refunds will be given for cancellations received afterthe above deadline, irrespective of the reason, including inability to obtain a visa to visit Spain (where appropriate). It is the responsibility of the individual participant to obtain a valid entry visa. It isrecommended that the individual participant takes out insurance to cover the risk of not being able to participate because of sickness or for any other reason whatsoever. If an individual with aconfirmed place finds later that he/she is unable to participate, it will be possible to change the booking name to that of another company member without incurring a financial penalty (assumingthe change is before 30th April 2018). If a suitable company substitute cannot be found however, this implies cancellation, which will be subject to the policy given above.

The organisers reserve the right to change the hotels/restaurants or any other aspect of the Tour, without notification or reason should the need arise. In the unlikely event that not enough participantsregister for this Study Tour, IFEAT reserves the right to cancel by 31st March 2018 in which case a full refund of Tour fees will be made.

TRAVEL INSURANCEIt is strongly recommended that personal travel insurance(including medical cover) be taken out at the time of making yourTour reservation. Travel insurance may facilitate some refund oftravel expenses and the Tour fee to be obtained through insurersin the event of inability to travel due to ill health or othercircumstances. It is very important that you read the small printof any insurance policy that you are considering to ensure thatthe cover that is required is the cover that is being offered. IFEATcan take no responsibility in the event of an inadequate policyhaving been purchased or of the refusal or inability of an insurerto pay the claim. For further information on personal travelinsurance, please contact your local insurance broker.

PASSPORT AND VISA REQUIREMENTSPassports must be valid for at least six months from the date ofentry.

Spain is a member of the European Union’s Schengen Treaty, andapplies Schengen rules for access to Spain, so there is no needfor a visa for this Tour if you come from the many countries thathave visa exemption for the Schengen area.

Citizens of other countries who do not hold a Schengen visa, needto apply for a Spanish visa, which can be quite a slow process, soit is important that Tour delegates apply as early as possible.IFEAT can provide visa information letters to assist in yourapplication. Processing time varies according to the nationalityof the applicant and local conditions of the issuing department.

HEALTH CAREYour doctor or travel clinic is the best source of information aboutpreventive measures, immunisations and disease outbreaksoverseas. The World Health Organization (WHO) providesinformation for travellers and also provides useful tips for stayinghealthy and travelling with medicines while overseas.

CURRENCYThe currency of Spain is the Euro (€), and the current exchangerate to the US dollar ($) is €1.00 = $1.16.

Automated teller machines (ATMs) are widespread and acceptmost of the main credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard andAmerican Express.

ELECTRICITYSpain operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz (cycles). Atransformer (converter) is needed if you want to use a 110Vappliance. The electric plug has two round pins.

CLIMATEJune sees the start of summer in Spain. The sun usually shinesfor 11 hours per day. The average low and high temperaturesrange between: Seville 17°C (63°F) and 32°C (90°F), Madrid 13°C(55°F) and 29°C (84°F) and Barcelona 20°C (68°F) and 26°C(79°F). It is invariably warm and sunny during the period of thetrip, and there can be some heavy rain showers.
