Does it seem to you that calamity seems to always be all around

us? War and rumor of war appears on the front page practically every day.

Terrible storms and floods are talked about on the news every day too. Does

that mean that God has turned His back on us? No! Paul’s message of utmost

confidence to the Romans is that absolutely nothing can ever separate us from

God’s love in Christ. It is one we too can embrace. After all, we are a people

holy to the Lord, our God. And as Paul also wrote, “If God is for us, who then

can be against us?” God blesses us with forgiveness of sins, salvation and

eternal life. Calamity has been happening ever since sin came into the world.

But, none of these things will separate us from the Love of Christ. Thanks be

to God!

HOPE FOR GUATEMALA: Don’t forget! We continue to collect

funds to help our Lutheran brothers and sisters in Guatemala serve

the poorest of the poor. About $2 per week from all our member

families would mean $10,000 to help alleviate their tremendous

suffering.

VINE AND BRANCHES, Saturday, August 23 – Rev. Dr. James

Lamb from Lutherans for Life will be with us presenting on life

issues. In conjunction with this event, we will be taking up a

collection for the local crisis pregnancy center. Here’s what they told

us they need: air fresheners; wipes; winter clothing for both boys and

girls, ages 3-12 months; baby blankets in neutral colors suitable for

either boys or girls; copier paper in white, purple, blue, yellow and

pink; stamps; toilet tissue; and tri-fold towelettes.
