RESOLUTIONCONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING THE MEMBERS OF THE PHILIPPINE TEAM, WHO HAVE WON IN THEIR RESPECTIVE SPORTS CATEGORIES THUS BRINGING THE COUNTRY’S MEDAL HAUL TO A TOTAL OF ONE HUNDRED TWENTY ONE (121), DURING THE 29th SOUTHEAST ASIAN GAMES (SEA GAMES) HELD ON AUGUST 19 TO 30, 2017 AT KUALA LUMPUR. MALAYSIA

WHEREAS, the Philippine Senate has, on several occasions, paid tribute to outstanding Filipino athletes for their remarkable and inspiring feats, which gained them international recognition, thereby bringing home pride and glory to the country;

WHEREAS, the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), which originated in 1959 at Thailand, is a biennial multi-sport competition serving as a venue to hone the skills of the athletes of the participating countries, as well as to strengthen the cooperation and camaraderie among the existing eleven (11) countries of Southeast Asia, namely: Brunei; Cambodia; Indonesia; Laos; Malaysia; Myanmar; Philippines; Singapore; Thailand; Timor-Leste; and Vietnam1;

WHEREAS, the 29th SEA Games was held on August 19 to 30, 2017 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and was actively participated in by the athletes of the aforementioned eleven countries;

WHEREAS, the Philippines sent a total of 497 Filipino athletes, participated in 37 out of the 38 sports categories at the said 29th SEA Games2;

WHEREAS, at the said 29th SEA Games, the Philippine team won a total of 121 medals, broken down as follows: 24 gold medals; 33 silver medals; and 64 bronze medals3;

WHEREAS, this performance of our Filipino athletes brings pride and honor to the country and serves as an inspiration to the Filipino athletes to strive in the succeeding international sports competition, particularly in the anticipated 2019 SEA Games that will be hosted by the Philippines;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, as it is hereby resolved by the Senate of the Philippines, to congratulate and commend the following members of the Philippine team, who have brought pride to the country for winning in their respective sports categories, thus bringing the Philippines’ medal haul to a total of one hundred and twenty-one (121) medals, at the recently concluded 29th SEA Games held on August 19 to 30, 2017 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia4:
