He later moved on to oil painting. Some of his paintings utilize molded anatomical objects such as hands and feet. Others borrow from his woodworking objects. The exhibit includes portraits and works that are based on subtle twists in how we see the world about us.

c e R a M i c s raMOn CaMariLLO February 19 – 21, 2015 | $350 raku Hawaiian style In this workshop students will learn a unique process to create one-of-a-kind works with striking glaze results. Par-ticipants will focus on the various aspects of the raku pro-cess through hands-on experiences and experimentation. Ramon will demonstrate and teach his unique technique for creating large forms in clay. About the artist: Born and raised in Hawaii, Ramon started working with clay in high school. After completing col-lege, he traveled extensively to the East Coast where he brought his unique style of wheel-throw-ing large vessels, glazing techniques, and raku firing knowledge to the Lee Art Center in Arlington, V.A., “Good Morning America” broadcasted a live segment of Ramon demonstrating his large throwing technique and his work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. He has been featured in many books and magazines including Ceramics Monthly and Clay Times.

PaUL LeWingFebruary 26 - 28, 2015 | $350China Painting: new DirectionChina paint is the perfect ceramic painting medium. Although traditionally mixed with oils, we will be using water-based mediums only. We apply china paint on pottery and ceramic tile using brushes, stamps, pens, sprayers, stencils, resists, wipeouts, traditional shading, and ground-laying methods, as well as nontraditional materials like structure pastes and enamels.

About the artist: Paul Lewing started oil painting at the age of eight and continued at the Uni-versity of Montana. There he discovered clay and earned both a BFA and MFA. Af-ter graduate school, Paul moved to Seattle where he has been a professional clay artist since 1972, first making functional pottery and then working exclusively on ceramic tile. Paul is known for his painterly style of glazing, and for the wide diversity of imagery, styles, and tech-niques he employs in his tile art. He is also widely respect-ed for his expertise in glaze chemistry.

g l a s s HOLLY ODessJanuary 16 - 17, 2015 | $350Mosaic Fused glass 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.This two-day course provides a great foundation for basic mosaic techniques by combining the process of fused glass with mosaics. Holly will take you beyond the basic concepts of crazy paving or coloring in with broken glass. You will learn cutting, shaping, and classical laying techniques. She will introduce you to the process of andamento and will teach you to fuse the project when you are through. Please bring two 10x10” designs for your project or choose from the many designs Holly will bring. Basic cutting techniques are required.

About the artist: Holly Odess is a Master Mosaic artist trained in the classical Italian style. In 2007 she completed the Master Mosaic Course at Mosaic Art School di Luciana Notturni in Ravenna. She completed the Master Mosaic Course in the Orsini Factory in Venice and studied mosaic art techniques at Hampstead School of Art. In London she participated in several public art installations, and her large-scale mosaics are installed in public places in Pembroke Pines and in Tampa, FL. Holly teaches glass and maintains a private glass fusing and mosaic studio. She is currently creating works for several commissions for public spaces.

anne HaVeLDecember 11-13, 2014 | $300some Like it Hot! torch-Fired enamelsEver wanted to try enameling without a kiln? Turn off that electricity and join us. This is a low budget, low tech ap-proach to enameling small objects that will provide you the skills to do this at home. You will learn how to use liquid and transparent enamels, firescale, sgraffito techniques, and under and over-firing for particular desired affects as well as how to integrate them all. No matter your skill lev-el, you can immerse yourself in new ideas and principles. Cold-connection and minimal soldering skill options for your piece(s) can be explored.

About the artist: Anne Havel received her BFA from Baruch College in NYC and has a di-verse background in business and the jewelry arts. She has been an independent studio artist for 13 years and exhib-its her enameled and lamp worked jewelry in juried craft shows and galleries across the country. Her work has been included in numerous exhibitions, collections, and publica-tions. Most recently, her work was included in the popular Art Jewelry Today series, the Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist article, “Enameling with Fire,” in Gems & Jewelry, and in the book “Behind the Brooch,” released February 2014 by Lark Books. Anne is the current Treasurer and a Board member of both the Society of North American Goldsmiths and The Enamelist Society.

Caitie seLLersJanuary 15-17, 2015 | $350soldering in PerspectiveThis workshop will explore techniques for drawing with wire in three dimensions to create dynamic jewelry and sculpture. Students should bring their sketchbooks and pens, as we will be using line draw-ings of the landscape as inspiration. Basic drawing and use of perspective will be explained as it relates to patterns in metal. Students will learn techniques for soldering and connecting steel wire as an accessible material for exper-imentation and large-scale work. Methods for finishing, mounting, and using viable jewelry applications will also be covered. Students of all levels are welcome.

About the artist: Caitie Sellers received her BFA in Craft/Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Caitie’s work is informed by her sense of place and observations of the urban landscape. Her soldered steel jewelry and sculpture has won numer-ous awards and has been exhibited nationally. Caitie was recently an artist-in-residence at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. She works in San Antonio, Texas.

andrew KuebeckFebruary 5-7, 2015 | $350the Picture in Picture in Picture: Photographic image transfer beneath, within, and

on top of enamel surfaceFusing enamel to the surface of metal creates infinite oppor-tunities to include imagery into your work. This workshop will focus on digital image creation, manipulation, application, and resolution of enameled jewelry works and will feature your own photographic imagery incorpo-rated into one or more jewelry pieces. Combining traditional

techniques of champlevé, cloisonné, and basse taille with contemporary approaches including enamel decals and photographic image etching & plating, participants will be able to create striking enamel compositions that address the surface of the metal plate and the interior of the enamel as well as the enamel’s surface. These plates will then be beau-tifully set into your final pieces(s) using traditional setting and cold connection techniques.

About the artist: Andrew Kuebeck received his BFA from Bowling Green State University in 2008 and his MFA in Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing from Indiana University in 2001. He is an Instructor of Jewelry Design and Met-alsmithing at Bowling Green and has lectured and taught workshops nationally on the incorporation of photographic images into jewelry pieces and vessels. He has exhibited regionally and nationally and has had his work appear in nu-merous publications including 500 Enameled Objects, 21st Century Jewelry, Wrap, Stitch, Fold and Rivet, Metalsmith, and Niche magazines. He was a 2012 SNAG Emerging Art-ist and is represented by Charon Kransen Arts, New York.

She won a NC Arts Council Grant, The South Florida Cultural Consortium Fel-lowship, The Florida Visual Arts Fellowship, and a Millay Colony Residency. She was Associate Professor and BFA Director at Florida International University for ten years, and now works in Washington, DC.

If you are fascinated with capturing the likeness and character of a person, this class is for you. Students will work from the model to examine the effect of light on the structures of the head and the use of atmosphere and back-ground towards creating a finished portrait. Mixing color for complexions will be discussed and demon-

strated. Regardless of your stage of development, specific information is given to individually guide you through each phase of creating a painting and to help you reach your personal goals. Students will also receive information dealing with the practical side of a successful career in portrait painting.

About the artist: Award-winning artist Laurel Stern Boeck has been char-acterized as one of the nation’s foremost portrait painters. Educated at the prestigious Arts Students League and receiving a Bachelors of Fine Art from the School of Visual Arts in New York, Boeck has had the privilege to paint prominent leaders in the fields of business, government, and education. Her work can be seen in major capitols, banks, boardrooms, universities, supreme court buildings, private homes, and Washington institutions.

Ying LiFebruary 16 - 20, 2015 | $750intensive Workshop on Landscape & FigureThis workshop for abstract and representational paintersexplores techniques and concepts emphasizing individual development of style and theme. Students will investigate the metaphorical meaning in figure and landscape paintings. Working from live models and landscape, students will be encouraged to experiment and discover how a basic image can be transformed into a personal statement. During power point presentations at lunchtime, master and contemporary artist works will be analyzed and discussed to complement studio and landscape projects.

About the artist: Ying Li is a painter and Professor of Fine Arts at Haverford College. She has exhibited at the American Academy of Arts and Letters, The National Academy Museum, Hood Museum, the New York Studio School, Tibor de Nagy Gallery, and Lohin Geduld Gallery. Li’s work has been reviewed in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Art Forum, and Art in America.

sculPtuRe arieL BOWMan January 22 - 24, 2015 | $400animals and artifacts: Clay sculpture WorkshopThis clay sculpture workshop will explore two different methods of working in clay. Ariel Bowman will sculpt animals

using a solid built tech-nique, while Karmien Bowman demonstrates techniques for sculpt-ing abstract forms and figures using the extruder and hollow building. Students will learn to build and

use armatures for solid forms and construct sculptures with hollow clay forms. Students will receive information and demonstrations on texture and surface treatments.

About the artist: Ariel Bowman earned her BFA from Kansas City Art Institute. She studied at the International Ceramics Studio in Hungary and was awarded the Regina K. Brown NCECA undergraduate Fellowship. Ariel has been an artist-in-residence at the Armory Art Center and her work is collected by the Kamm Teapot Foundation, the Belger Arts Center, and the Kolva-Sullivan Collection.

extreme Portrait sculptureUsing a fresh and intuitive sculptural language, Rubino will lead you toward understanding the dynamic forces in larger-than-life-size portrait sculpture. Follow Peter’s method of blocking in the foundation, establishing facial

planes, and capturing the essence and expression of the human head. Rubino encourages you to go BIG and develop your own individual artistic style. Rubrino says, “We don’t make mistakes, we make adjustments.” Returning students may bring a sculpture project with photo reference, but

check with instructor before registration.

About the artist: Peter Rubino achieved international acclaim for his 12-foot historic monument “Mother of All Life,” in Beer-Sheva, Israel. Other monuments include “Angel,” a 35-foot figure created for Disney Corpora-

tion, and “Remembrance,” a tribute to America’s fallen war heroes. Mr. Rubino is an author and performance artist, and has taught in many prestigious institutions such as The Brooklyn Museum Art School and The National Academy Museum School of Fine Art in NYC.

eDOUarD DUVaL CarriÉFebruary 19 - 21, 2015 | $400Mold Making and Casting resinsStudents will learn the basics of mold making using silicone rubber and pouring with synthetic epoxy resins. Small objects of your choice will be molded and poured

in clear or tinted resins. Students will either mold a clay object, make an assemblage, or work with readymades. Problems concerning mold making and casting will be addressed to enable students to explore multiples and complex sculptures.

About the artist: Edouard Duval Carrié is a Haitian American artist residing in Miami. He has extensively exhibited in many museums and galleries worldwide, most recently at the new PAM Miami. Though very interested in the history and problems of his homeland and the entire Caribbean region, his interest in modern materials and techniques have made him a prolific multimedia artist engaging in a broad range of contemporary art practices. Much of his work incorporates cast resin multiples.

You will build your own Jimmi 3D Printer and learn the basics of its use and modification options. You will take your own 3D printer home. Jimmi~Research is the name of this collaborative project formed by Lucas Haroldsen, Evan Roche, and Harrison Tyler, all recent graduates from the Interdisciplinary Sculpture Department at MICA. This long-term interdisciplinary project is focused on the intersection of performance, research, technology, and art. Jimmi~Research is spreading this technology and making it accessible as a fabrication technology and artistic tool while remaining critical of the hype surrounding 3D printing and the newly popular “maker movement”.

We strive to accommodate our student’s needs and keep registration open for as long as possible. Students enrolled in courses which are cancelled by the Armory due to lack of enrollment or instructor illness will receive a full refund. If a class is cancelled, every effort will be made to notify students at least 24 hours before the first class. The Armory reserves the right to substitute instructors for any of its classes at any time.

h o l i D a Y sFor classes that fall on holidays, it is up to the teachers and students to decide whether to hold classes or schedule a makeup class within the same session.

l i a B i l i t YThe Armory will not assume liability for injuries that occur within the scope of the subject area for which the student is enrolled. By registering for any course, the student assumes all reasonable liability from injuries related to the scope of the coursework being taught and releases the Armory Art Center from any liability claims related to any injuries and/or accidents that may or may not occur. The student can be assured that every reasonable safety precaution will be followed. The Armory Art Center is not responsible for any artwork or personal items lost or stolen in the classrooms or lockers.

o P e n s t u D i o t i M eOpen studio time is available only to students per session in the department their class is registered in (e.g. ceramics studio is available to Ceramics students) Studio time is purchased in 4 or 8 week increments, please refer to the

active catalog for current rates. Hours of Open Studio time are dependent on studio and monitor availability. Please see posted hours in each department area.

R e F u n D sA non-refundable $25 registration fee is included in each course registration, excluding one day workshops and Pop-up Workshops. The non-refundable registration fee for Visiting Master Artist Workshops is $50. Students who withdraw from a course at least five (5) working days prior to the start of that course are eligible to receive a full tuition refund minus the registration fee. Students who withdraw from their course less than five (5) working days before the start of that course OR once the course has start-ed are NOT eligible for a refund. No refunds will be issued due to a student’s failure to attend class.

t R a n s F e R s a n D P R o R a t i n gStudents wishing to transfer from one course to another in the same session may do so prior to the second meeting of the course and only if space is available. Individual classes paid for but not attended are “missed” classes and are not eligible for transfer or refund. Prorating is available at the discretion of each department. Certain restrictions apply. Please refer to the current catalog for details.

Youth classes, caMPs, anD WoRKshoPsRegistrants in any youth class must meet the age require-ments specified in the class description. Parents wishing to withdraw their child from Summer Art Camp or Spring Break Workshops at least 1 week prior to the start of their week may do so and receive a full refund minus a $50 reg-istration fee per child per week. No refunds will be given after that period.

D i s c o u n t sPalm Beach County teachers receive a 20% discount on classes with proof of school ID. Youth (ages 14 - 18) receive a 20% discount on tuition for adult classes.Multiple Course Discount: Adult Students will receive a 20% discount on the tuition of additional courses (of equal or lesser value, exclusive of studio time, lab fees, model fees, or cost of materials purchased at the Armory) in the same session for the same student. A multiple course discount cannot be combined with any other discount. This discount only applies to 4 and 8 week classes. This discount does not apply when classes are pro-rated.

Parents of Summer Art Camp students receive 10% off adult classes during Sessions 5/6 only.

South Florida Basket and Fiber Arts Guild gets 15% off classes. Not applicable for Pop-up Workshops.

Ceramics League of Palm Beach County gets 20% off Visiting Master Artist Workshops.

Y o u t h s c h o l a R s h i P sTuition Assistance is available to qualifying youth students, based on their financial need. Assistance may be given to the same student only after 12 months of their last class at the Armory. The membership fee is not included.
