Smart Cities: Just some of the reasons why
Today over 50% of world population lives in cities
(>3.3bn).
By 2050 70% of total world population will be city
dwellers.
1 million people move to cities each week
Global energy demand will grow by 30% over next Global energy demand will grow by 30% over next
25 years.
Natural (and man made) disasters threaten cities
and their inhabitants.
Water scarcity affects 1 in 5 people, over >1.2bn
people.
These significant global challenges require
transformation of our urban infrastructure.
Session 1: The City Vision
It is the City Councils that will initial the real life
Smart City implementations.
They must manage the projects, budget, physical
implementation, and also accompany the
inhabitants throughout their change of lifestyle.
They are the customers of the service providers
and also the ones responsible to the inhabitants
for the final outcome.
In Session 1 we will hear their experiences and the
lessons learned from the Smart City
implementations of several large cities from across
the globe.
