Hanson – who has lived in Deerfield since 1999, worked for the city since 2001, and served as City Manager since 2010 – has applied for a job as Supervisor for Marion County, FL and is one of four finalists for the position. During discussion on the city manager’s performance evaluation process, the last agenda item of the evening, Commissioner Joe Miller and fellow commissioners said they wanted to do everything in their power to keep Hanson here, and take a look at his salary. “I don’t know why this is on the agenda tonight. I thought we were going to wait until January. Marion County is going to do something on the 14th or 15th. Let’s do something after. I’d like to make a motion to table,” said Mayor Robb. “I discussed this with the city manager. Since he’s applying for other positions, I don’t want to do anything on this,” she continued. Commissioner Miller said, “I distinctly wanted this to be on tonight! I’d like to do a special meeting A.S.A.P. Let’s make him an offer he can’t refuse.” Vice Mayor Ganz said, “I met last night with representatives from our business community. I have 20 letters of support. I’m not looking to give away the Taj Mahal, but if he leaves this city, I want to make sure we fought hard to keep him.” Several Deerfield residents spoke earlier in the meeting, commending Hanson on his leadership and professionalism. geous. I love my community,” she added. Solomon also asked about recycling water for watering purposes. Assistant City Manager Brian Donovan said that the City of Pompano Beach has put in a Reclaimed Water Program. Pompano took out a $20 mil- lion Utility Bond around the year 2000 and used it to build a Reclaimed Water Treatment Plant, he said. If Deerfield Beach wants to do this, they’d have to find a way to come up with the funds to pay for it first in order to support it [the Treatment Plant], said Donovan. Mayor Robb asked if Pita was also in charge of enforcing the Sign Ordinance. “It used to be [that] you could only have a covering over 20 percent of the window,” Robb said. Pita responded that it still is a [maximum] 20 percent. “There are a lot of signs violating the code. We’re working to rectify that,” he said. It is a very tall upright tree, reaching more than 80’, but having a relatively narrow crown of 25’ to 35’. This tree has very corky bark, hence its name. Because of its height and somewhat brittle wood, it requires some thought as to placement in your yard. Jason is only 29 and already has ten years of experience, so how did he get started in the business so young? As a kid, Jason was an avid baseball player, along with his love of freshwater or saltwater fishing, freediving or surfing. He graduated from Pompano Beach High School with a GPA of 4.2. But after high school he and a friend started detailing boats, and it grew into his full time profession. “Every boat is different,” says Jason, with completely different needs. In his truck, he has six different compounds and four or five different wax- es, depending on the condition of each boat. And, of course, he uses a high speed buffer to polish the hull so you can see yourself in the reflection. His “attention to detail” is even in the rust and spot removal from the hardware to the propellers on the engine. He has a sense of accom- plishment, after bringing boats back through a complete restoration, which makes his many repeat customers happy. Jason doesn’t feel like it’s work as he’s on boats all day and it always gives him a great “nautical view.” For more nautical views, visit www.chiefy.net.
