- Our Mission -
We, the Catholic Community of Our Lady Queen of Peace, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, are called to live and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We Praise God
while sharing His Joy and Truth through Word, Worship, Community Service, and Stewardship.
We share our gifts of Time, Talent, and Treasure in a tapestry of diverse cultures as we gather
together to celebrate our Roman Catholic Faith. Serving our Lord God through the Liturgy and Eucharist, our ministries welcome all into our
parish Family.

June 8, 2014 Dear Parish Family, Happy Pentecost Sunday! Today we celebrate the Birthday of the Church, for today is the day that the Holy Spirit came down upon the Apostles and transformed them into the men Jesus chose them to be. From a fearful crowd they became fearless in proclaiming the Gospel to lands near and far! The Holy Spirit sent to the Apostles comes to us, too. In the Sacrament of Baptism we receive the Holy Spirit and in Confirmation the fullness of the Holy Spirit is given to us to help us on our journey of life and in our role in being modern day disciples of the Lord. Today at the 10 am Mass we celebrate the Confirmation of Nicole, Anyelo, and Joseph. They have been part of the journey with RCIA over the past year: Nicole Bianca Capistrano, who lives with her parents and siblings, was Baptized in January of 1996 and has been attending Catholic schools. She is looking forward to strengthening her faith through the sacrament of Confirmation on the feast of Pentecost. Joseph Martinez is 20 years old and lives in Maywood with his family. Having been baptized and having received his First Eucharist, Joseph is looking forward to receiving the sacrament of Confirmation on Pentecost. Anyelo A. Mejia is married to Marina Mejia. They have a 17-month old daughter named Anyelina. Anyelo was baptized into the Catholic Church in 1992 and has been attending Our Lady Queen of Peace in Maywood for the past two years. He is looking forward to receiving Our Lord in the Eucharist for the first time on Pentecost Sunday, and also receiving the Holy Spirit in a special way through the sacrament of Confirmation that same day. I thank Fr. Charez, the RCIA team, and their sponsors for their work in making this day possible. Lastly, I congratulate Nicole, Anyelo, and Joseph on their Confirmation and Anyelo on receiving his First Eucharist.
AS mentioned in last week’s column I present you with the annual maintenance and Repairs report. This monthly collection began 6 ½ years ago and has been invaluable to the care and upkeep of our parish. I thank all who have so generously contributed to this collection not only this past year, but throughout the years. If you haven’t given to this collection in the past I invite you to do so, for your generosity can help us maintain our buildings and grounds for years to come. Here are the projects funded this past year by our Maintenance and Repairs collection. Again…THANK YOU!

RCIA: Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
The Rite of Acceptance is a step for a person who desires to join the Catholic Faithful to be active in the Church’s liturgical and communal life. We are glad to welcome our Catechumens: Shania Rivas, Thalia Rivas, William Von Borstel and Walter Von Borstel. They will walk with us and as a community may we point them to Christ through our words and deeds. During the Rite, the priest performs a Signing of the Candidates with the Cross on the foreheads and on the eyes, ears, shoulder, lips, chest (heart) and feet, that God may use their organs to be an effective agent of change for our society. Although, through these organs sins may enter a person, but God’s mercy is powerful than human weakness. The priest also sealed them with the sign of the cross to protect them from the assault of the enemy. We also welcome our candidate Jillian Yglesias for Holy Communion and Confirmation.
Today, we are blessed to have our newly confirmed Catholics, Nicole Bianca Capistrano, Michael Joseph Martinez and Anyelo Mejia who also received his First Holy Communion. They are the fruit of our prayers and the catechesis of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). There is no greater gift from God than to know and serve Him and have eternal life. This promise comes to a reality in these newly confirmed Christians who have been made a new creations by the power of the Holy Spirit.
If you would like to know more about your faith and would like to respond to the invitation of Jesus Christ to be His faithful disciple in His Church, please let us know. Give us a call at (201) 845-9566 ext. 104 or email: [email protected]. Fill out this form and drop it in the collection basket or at the parish center:
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love!

“When I called, You Answered” This May, the Archdiocese of Newark welcomed thirteen newly ordained Transitional Deacons and twelve Priests. Ordinations took place at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Transitional deacons serve in parishes for one year before they are ordained to the priesthood. Our local Archdiocese is given new life with each new Deacon and Priest who we are able to welcome into the Archdiocese of Newark, and it is your prayers and support that help encourage more and more vocations. While many dioceses in the United States have no candidates for the priesthood and clergy shortages are widespread, the Archdiocese of Newark is blessed with several men each year who are willing to answer God’s call to serve, insuring that the Church will be present for future generations. In fact, in several recent years, the Archdiocese of Newark has ordained more priests than any diocese in the United States. A portion of the funds collected by the Annual Appeal is used to fund the seminary training and formation of our new priests. Your support of the Annual Appeal continues to directly support the three seminaries maintained by the Archdiocese to educate and train future priests. We are truly blessed with a large number of men studying to be our future leaders. One seminarian recently shared: “Not only am I relying on God’s grace but upon the people of God of this Archdiocese. We need support and we need your prayers. Your generosity, along with the amazing and constant support, enables me and the other seminarians to dedicate everything to the formation program. If we are called to be, as Pope Francis has exhorted us, to be a ‘field hospital’ ministering to the wounded then first we need a profound experience with Jesus Christ and his healing presence. Only with a quality and lengthy formation program is this possible. I am so grateful and we pray for our benefactors every single day.” Thank you for continuing to support these men in their process of answering God’s call. Please continue to pray for all of the seminarians, the newly Ordained Deacons, and newly ordained Priests. Thank you for your support of the Annual Appeal which makes educating our future priests a reality!

AAA - “When I called, you answered” - Thank you to the many families who have already contributed to the AAA! This is a perfect opportunity for us to reflect on God's generosity to us. This year, our parish goal is $42,492, and to date we have received over $33,532 in pledges.
