BY THE WAY . . .
• Please remember in your prayers this weekend, Ronnie Gonzalez, who will be ordained to the Permanent Diaconate along with thirteen of his classmates from throughout our Paterson Diocese on Saturday morning, August 22 at 9:00 A.M. Bishop Kevin Sweeney will preside at the ordination at the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Paterson. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, attendance at the ordination is severely limited. However the ordination will be live streamed and can be accessed through our diocesan website, www.rcdop.org. Deacon Gonzalez is the seventh man to be ordained to the permanent diaconate from Saint Anthony’s over the years.
• Beginning Monday, August 24, the weekday Mass will return to its previous time of 7:30 A.M., Monday through Saturday. The Mass will continue to be live streamed.
• Recently the Borough of Hawthorne has installed self-activated blinking lights at the church corner of Diamond Bridge and Washington Avenues. When crossing Diamond Bridge Avenue, one has only to push the button on the pole, and blinking lights will warn on-coming motorists to slow down and allow pedestrian traffic to cross the street. For everyone’s safety, please make use of them.
• Congratulations to Sister Elfie Rose del Rosario, F.M.A. who made her Final Profession of religious vows as a Salesian Sister this past Saturday here at Saint Anthony’s. If any of you may have questioned the wisdom of installing the equipment that allows us to live stream our liturgies, I make mention of the fact that the 100 of us who were able to be present physically at the Profession Mass last Saturday, were joined by 1,440 households who watched the ceremony on live stream. See picture below of Sr. Elfie and her parents, Mr. & Mrs. del Rosario.
• Last Saturday was the first visit by our new bishop, Bishop Kevin Sweeney, who was ordained as the Eighth Bishop of Paterson six weeks ago on July 1. Before the ceremony he took a moment to visit the church and “check out the lay of the land.” On entering the church, he commented, “You have a beautiful church.”
• There are so many issues right now in our lives that are far from peaceful – the pandemic and resultant sickness and frustration, the economy, racial justice, civil discord – and in the midst of all this we enter onto a period of national and local elections. The following is a Prayer for Peace composed in Spain in the seventh century.
O God, who art peace everlasting, whose chosen reward is the gift of peace, and who has taught us that peace-makers are thy children, pour thy peace into our souls, that everything discordant may utterly vanish, and all that makes for peace be sweet to us forever. Amen. God grant us all peace, Father Ray

MEMORIALIZING A LOVED ONE
We here at St. Anthony’s understand what a difficult time this has been. Loved ones have passed away and we are unable to hold proper funerals for them.
If you are interested in having a mass, sanctuary lamp, bread and wine, or a paver for a loved one, friend, etc., please call Mary Ann Martone at 973- 557-0858.
Please understand while the order for pavers can be placed, they are not being produced until the health crisis resolves.

SOCKS FOR SOLDIERS
This month we received the following letter from NJ Senator Kristin M. Corrado (40th District, incl. Passaic County): I would like to thank the members of St. Anthony's Church for the generous amount of socks donated to my and Senator Bateman's "Socks for Soldiers" donation drive. Your commitment to keeping grateful soldiers, veterans, and homeless veterans warm is sincerely appreciated. Through your kindness, St. Anthony's Church has touched countless lives. Thank you for making a difference.
