Psalm 62:5-8Leader: For God alone, o my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from Him.Congregation: He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God.

Congregation: Dear refuge of our weary souls, on you – when every sorrow has arisen; when every wave of trouble has rolled – in the midst of life’s storms, our fainting hope relies on You.To you we cast each and every rising grief because you alone can heal. Your Word can bring a sweet relief to every pain we feel. Amen.

Dear Refuge of My Weary Soul

Dear refuge of my weary soul,On Thee, when sorrows rise;

On Thee, when waves of trouble roll,My fainting hope relies.

Page 23: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

On Thee I cast each rising grief,For Thou alone canst heal.

Thy Word can bring a sweet reliefFor every pain I feel; this pain I feel.

Page 24: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

But oh! When gloomy doubts prevail, I fear to call Thee mine.

The springs of comfort seem to fail, and all my hopes decline.

Page 25: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

Yet, gracious God, where shall I flee?Thou art my only trust.

And still my soul shall cleave to TheeThough prostrate in the dust; in the

dust.

Page 26: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

Hast Thou not bid me seek Thy face, and shall I seek in vain?

And can the ear of sovereign graceBe deaf when I complain?

Page 27: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

No still the ear of sovereign grace attends the mourner’s prayer.

Oh, may I ever find accessTo breathe my sorrows there.

Page 28: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

Thy mercy seat is open still. Here let my soul retreat.

With humble hope attend Thy willAnd wait beneath Thy feet.

Ecclesiastes 10:8-11:6 “Sucking Out the Venom”

Sermon notes @ http://bible.com/e/1H4b

Page 40: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

Ecclesiastes 10:8-11:6  8 He who digs a pit will fall into it,    and a serpent will bite him who breaks through a wall.

9 He who quarries stones is hurt by them,    and he who splits logs is endangered by them.

10 If the iron is blunt, and one does not sharpen the edge, he must use more strength,

but wisdom helps one to succeed.11 If the serpent bites before it is charmed,    there is no advantage to the charmer.

Page 41: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

12 The words of a wise man's mouth win him favor,    but the lips of a fool consume him.

13 The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness,    and the end of his talk is evil madness.

14 A fool multiplies words,    though no man knows what is to be,

and who can tell him what will be after him?15 The toil of a fool wearies him,

for he does not know the way to the city.

Page 42: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

16 Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child,    and your princes feast in the morning!

17 Happy are you, O land, when your king is the son of the nobility, and your princes feast at the proper time,

for strength, and not for drunkenness!18 Through sloth the roof sinks in,

and through indolence the house leaks.19 Bread is made for laughter,

and wine gladdens life,    and money answers everything.

20 Even in your thoughts, do not curse the king,    nor in your bedroom curse the rich,

for a bird of the air will carry your voice,    or some winged creature tell the matter.

Page 43: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

11 Cast your bread upon the waters,    for you will find it after many days.

2 Give a portion to seven, or even to eight,    for you know not what disaster may happen on earth.

3 If the clouds are full of rain,    they empty themselves on the earth,

and if a tree falls to the south or to the north,    in the place where the tree falls, there it will lie.

4 He who observes the wind will not sow,    and he who regards the clouds will not reap.

Gospel Application:1) Are we leading with our words and lives before all

people? 2) Do we honor the Lord with what we say, do, and how

we do it? 3) How will the Gospel spoken and lived transform our

community in Seward/Cedar?

Do this in remembrance of me…

2 Corinthians 9:7Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion,

for God loves a cheerful giver.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26For I received from the Lord what I also

delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and

when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this

in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup

is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of

me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's

death until he comes.

God is GoodEven when it seems the answer’s “no”,the promises of God all find their yesin Christ who worked the Father’s will

belowthat all who run to Him will find their

rest.

Page 56: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

And even when it seems He hides His face, and darkness seems to be our only friendwe look to Christ who suffered in our place

that one day all our suffering would end

behindthat one day we would reign with Him

above.

Absent from FleshAbsent from flesh – O, blissful

thought—What joy that moment brings.

Freed from the blame my sin has brought;

from pain and death and its sting.

Page 64: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

Absent from flesh, O glorious day!In one triumphant stroke:

My reckoning paid, my charges dropped,And the bonds ‘round my hands are broke!

Page 65: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

I go where God and and glory shine,To one eternal day;

And this failing body I now resignFor the Christ has made a way!For the Christ has made a way!

Page 66: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

Absent from flesh, then rise my soulWhere feet nor wings could climb;Beyond the sky, where planets roll,

And beyond all keep of time!

Page 67: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

I go where God and and glory shine,To one eternal day;

And this failing body I now resignFor the Christ has made a way!For the Christ has made a way!

Page 68: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

Absent from flesh, then see thy GodWith eyes unveiled and free!

We’ll face to face His glory laud,And radiance ever see!

My God, My FatherMy God, My Father while I stray,

Far from my home I life’s rough way.Oh! Teach me from my heart to say:

“Thy will be done!”

Page 73: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

Though dark my path, and sad my lot,Let me be still, and murmur not,

Or breathe the prayer divinely taught,“Thy will be done!”

Page 74: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

But if my fainting heart be blessed,With the Holy Spirit for its guest,My God, to Thee I leave the rest:

“Thy will be done!”

Page 75: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

If Thou should call me to resign,What most I prize – ‘twas never mine;

I only yield Thee what is Thine:“Thy will be done!”“Thy will be done!”

Page 76: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

Renew my will from day to dayBlend it with Thine and take awayAll that now makes it hard to say:

“Thy will be done!”(2x)

Page 77: Sermon notes @ bible /e/1H4b

Then when on earth I breathe no more,The prayer oft mixed with tears before,

I’ll sing upon that joyful shore,“Thy will be done!”
