Series of Five STTPs on theme of Coding during Summer- 2017

Series of five short term training programs (STTP) on the theme of coding were organized byDepartment of Computer Engineering during Apr. – May, 2017. This included four one-weekSTTPs namely Android App Development, Laravel - A PHP Framework for Web Artisans wereorganized during 24-28 Apr., 2017 and ASP.Net MVC with Entity Framework, iPhone AppDevelopment using Swift organized during 22-26 May, 2017. Fifth STTP was of two-weekduration on the topic MS Office, LaTeX, WordPress & Social Media-Tools for every Engineer wasan inter-departmental and organized during 22 May – 2 June, 2017. STTPs were recognized andapproved by agencies like Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), All India Council forTechnical Education (AICTE) and Gujarat Technological University (GTU).

The objective behind this was to learn and share new technologies as well as to interact withcommunity for mutual benefits. STTPs were conducted by invited experts from the field andfaculties at the Institute. Some of the dignitaries who contributed to these programs included Mr.Chintan Kotadiya, Professional Soft-Tech, Rajkot, Prof. Prashant Mehta, Government EngineeringCollege, Rajkot, Mr. Dipak Gami, Etech Global Services, Gandhinagar, Mr. Jaydeep Bhensdadia, Sr.Software Engineer, Excellence Infocom, Ahmedabad, Prof. Amit Lathigara, HOD (FOT), MarwadiUniversity and Mr. Yash Chawla, Intrepreneur in the field of Academics, Branding, Training,Public Speaking, Social Media. Around 110 participants which included faculties from academicinstitutes, developers from industries and PG students participated in the event.


Educational Events

As per defined structure of questionpaper in Gujarat TechnologicalUniversity each question paper inDegree Engineering has 20%weightage given to objective typequestions. These includes multiplechoice questions (MCQ) as well asshort questions. MCQ questions arealso useful in while preparing forcompetitive examinations as well asfor campus interviews. GTU MCQB.E. 1st Year is the mobile appdeveloped by the Institute thatcurrently includes MCQ questionsfor 8 subjects of BE 1st year in GTU.It has been prepared as percurriculum of GTU and also coversquestions asked in previousexaminations.

App has been prepared by efforts ofindividual subject teachers and teamof students and staff at ApplicationSoftware and Website DevelopmentCenter at the Institute. App isavailable free to download onGoogle play store.

Mobile App for GTU MCQ for BE 1st Year


Department of Computer Engineeringorganized an in-house faculty developmentprogram on Angular JS during 13-14 May,2017. The program was organized forfaculties at the department and final yearstudents working on ASP.NET and PHPtechnologies. Mr. Amit Shahani fromAnalytix Business Solutions was invited toconduct the program.

Center for Advance Training in Industrial Automation

Development of employability skills among students has became integral part of regularacademic activities carried out the Institute. All the departments offer various trainingprograms in parallel to regular academics with an aim to improve these skills in students andbridg the gap between academics and industry demands. In line with this one more facility hasbeen created at the Institute by Department of Electronics & Communication in terms of Centerfor Advance Training in Industrial Automation (CAT-IA).

CAT-IA is established with an aim to impart training in field of industrial automation. Completeset-up at CAT-IA has been developed in-house using Delta Automation products. It consist ofone main trainer station and five satellite trainer stations. These stations are resources withPLC, HMI, SCADA, VFD, Servo and Stepper drives, analog and digital input-outputs, analog anddigital sensor and actuator, controllers, energy meters, etc. In addition to this variousapplication modules based on induction motor, servo motor, stepper motor, temperaturemonitoring and control, etc. have been developed.

Currently CAT-IA is resourced to cater trainings inbatches of 15 candidates and offers two 30 Hrscourses viz. Level-I and Level-II on IndustrialAutomation. These courses are very useful tostudents of both Degree and DiplomaEngineering of Electrical, Mechanical andElectronics & Communication Engineering.

Training is conducted by faculties at theinstitute who already are professionallytrained and have experience of handlingrelated industrial projects. Experts fromindustries are also invited during thetraining. In past six months 100+ studentsand 10+ faculties have been trained at thecenter


Community Activity

Guidance Seminar on Engineering Admission

Students aspiring to join Engineering courses after standard 12th in many cases requires correctinformation, counseling and guidance to be able to make right decision in admission process.Large variety of courses and number of colleges to select from makes task difficult for thestudents. Further the process of online admissions is sometimes new for students in particularfrom rural areas having limited resources available.

With an aim to share right information and help students in the process Institute conductsnumber of guidance seminar every year. This year around 50+ seminars has been scheduledduring May-June, 2017. Seminars are arranged at various locations in Saurashtra & Kutch atdistrict as well as taluka places. Seminar tries to address topic like - various branches inengineering, scientific approach of college & branch selection, various type of seats andgovernment scholarships, key steps for online engineering admission process, etc. An openhouse question-answer session is arranged towards the end to address individual issues.

Institute has also developed a mobile app Gujarat Engineering Admission-2017 that providescomplete information about colleges that students generally seek for admissions. It providesnumber of features like-

• Merit number predictor from board result & JEE-main result using last year data• Cut-off merit number - category wise based on 2016 admissions• Facility to search college & branch based on merit number, category, city, etc.• Branch wise college with intake & fees• College list & College comparison based on fees, rank in GTU, placement, etc.• Complete college details like contact detail, fees, university, seats, vacant seats, etc.• GTU & State universities like Nirma university, DDU, DAIICT, MSU, PDPU, etc.• Latest news & important information

This App is available free to download and Google play store and works offline once installed.



Staff Achievements

Prof. Gautam Sarvaiya from Department of Electrical Engineering attended short term trainingon Power Electronics for Smart Grid and Renewable Energy Control organized by Electronicsand ICT Academy, MNIT Jaipur during 15-19 May, 2017. The objective of STTP was to provide anexposure to recent trends in Power Electronics for smart grid and renewable energy control.Experts from IITs and NITs conducted sessions during the program.

NPTEL Online Certification Course

Prof. Maulik Trivedi from Department of Computer Engineering successfully completed 4-weekonline course on Introduction to Modern Application Development offered by IIT Madrasthrough NPTEL during Jan.-Apr., 2017. On basis of his performance in the course he wasawarded a certificate in Elite category.

Prof. Ketan Agola from Department of Mechanical Engineering successfully completed 12-weekonline course on Introduction to Fluid Mechanics offered by IIT Kharagpur through NPTELduring Jan.-Apr., 2017. On basis of his performance in the course he was awarded a certificate inElite category.

It is worth to note that NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) is ajoint initiative of the IITs and IISc under MHRD. Through this initiative, various online coursesare offered every semester with facility to earn certification from IITs & IISc. These onlinecourse are free for all and with very nominal fees for certification exam.

Both Degree and Diploma Institutes received certificate of appreciation from GTU InnovationCouncil, GTU, for outstanding efforts in successfully organizing students project/innovationexhibition for year 2016-2017 and supporting student innovation. The certificate was awardedduring a function on 11 May, 2017 on the occasion of National Technology Day Celebration.

To All My Juniors

“Success & Excuses never walk hand in hand.If you want to succeed, forget about excuses& the other way round” has always been mymantra from the day I realized that I have totake up the charge, the responsibility to beon my own, regardless of anything. From anormal Electronic engineer pass out in 2013to a founder & director of RoboFun Lab (P)Ltd., has been an amazing learning journey!The most important thing that I realized inthis journey & would also like to say to myfellow mates is: “Regardless of anything,follow your passion & work hard to makeyour passion your profession. Money willcome on it`s own at correct time.” Here isbrief of my journey so far.

My family had been supportive in all ways,but I had a strong urge to be self-supportiveif not fully then best that I can manage. Beingclear to be the best teacher in future, Istarted working for the same right afterclearing my SSC & continued till the end ofcollege. However, I knew all the time that thisis not my life objective and hence I did notallowed my studies to suffer because of theseinvolvements. By the time engineering wasabout to get over, I got placed in TGES Rajkot& started working as a Robotics Educatorthere. Working with complete dedication forthree years, coaching the teams in the bestway, we tasted commendable success withrespect, name & fame across India &internationally more than a couple of times.In 2015, there came a point in my life where Ihad a question for myself – By only serving tothe elite class of the society; am I doingsomething that will benefit the bigger massof the society? The answer came in negative,which gave birth to a bigger idea – Creatingthe same platform, same learning technology

with same infrastructure & quality whichcan be affordable to most of the people insociety, resulting into existence of RoboFunLab! With this noble cause, we have neverstopped working & are coming up withsomething new every day, striving hard tobring the envisioned change in the society –better & directly employable graduates fortomorrow. Acknowledging our innovativeideas of bridging the gap of theoreticallearning with it`s practical application,GESIA awarded us with the Best ICT startupof Gujarat last year. RFL has establisheditself in 8 major cities of India & 2 abroad,working with 20+ schools & is growing.What all have been achieved is notshowcasing the great success, but I wouldsurely emphasize on the fact of followingone`s passion & facing the challengesupfront, solving them without giving up canmake a stark difference.

In summary, to all my Juniors - dream ofsomething good, go with a good faith to givesomething better to the society by whateveryou do, give your 200% in whateverprofession you are, never ever give up & beadaptive to the change in technology, changein world, keep no grudge for anyone in thisworld & the world is all yours!!! A small steptoday will be ladder after a week! Peoplesometimes still wonder if they don`t get abetter engineer than me in Dubai or Qatarthat they call me to get trained forEducational Robotics! Self Belief &considering yourself the best is the key toeverything!
