SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM

Serbian conference on interventional cardiology, cardiovascular imaging and drug therapy

SINERGY 2018September 6-8, 2018, Belgrade

Serbian conference on INtERventional cardioloGY, cardiovascular imaging and drug therapy SINERGY 2018

WELCOME to SINERGY

Dear colleagues and friends,

It is a great pleasure and honor to cordially invite you to the traditional Serbian con-ference on INtERventional cardioloGY, cardiovascular imaging and drug therapy SIN-ERGY 2018 , which will this year take place on September 6-8 2018, in the Belgrade´s Crowne Plaza Hotel.

The exchange of ideas and experiences through peer-to-peer discussion and LIVE case demonstration constitute a crucial step in ultimately improving patient care. To achieve this, the SINERGY platform has traditionally brought together professionals from East (India, China and Japan) and West (Europe), as well as from countries from our broader region, including Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia. Hence the under-lying motto of our meeting: East meets West in Serbia.

As in the previous years, the conference program is built around the most respected speakers and operators in the field of interventional cardiology. More specifically, this year we will promote a tripartite approach with sessions dedicated to cardiovas-cular interventions, imaging and drug therapy. In the spirit of SINERGY, the three car-diology sub-disciplines will be cross-linked within the framework of joint, case-based sessions, with multidisciplinary expert participation.

The SINERGY congress has been developed in collaboration with prominent mem-bers of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI), and it aims at establishing a regional network of cardiovascular centers of excellence, with the goal of initiating collaborative research projects and expanding educational and training opportunities in the field of interventional cardiovascular medicine and cardiovascular imaging, in the region of Southeastern Europe.

We do hope that SINERGY 2018 will meet your expectations and trust that you will enjoy visiting our beautiful and exciting city.

Looking forward to meeting you in Belgrade SINERGY 2018, Organizing Committee

SINERGY 2018 Serbian conference on INtERventional cardioloGY, cardiovascular imaging and drug therapy

BelgradeIN SHORT

Belgrade is the capital of the southeast European country of Serbia. Its most significant landmark is Beogradska Tvrđava, an imposing fortress at the confluence

of the Danube and the Sava rivers.

A testament to the city’s strategic importance to the Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, Serbian and Austrian empires, the fortress is now the site of several museums and Kalemegdan,

a vast park.

PEOPLE AND CULTURE

If there is one thing that surprises people when they come to Belgrade for the first time, it’s the people.

You hear all those stories of nationalism and bad politics and you’d expect Belgraders to be grumpy, tired folks who probably like nothing more than cursing at westerners – NOT SO.

Serbians in general are loud, happy, outgoing, hospitable people always happy to meet new people and have guests over.

The culture is very intimate and it’s incredibly easy to make contact with people – it also helps that they speak English a lot better than any of their East European neighbors.

Sure, you’ll occasionally run into a super-obnoxious cab driver but hey, that just addsto the charm.

Generally, what you will see in downtown Belgrade is crowds of young, beautiful people sitting around cafes, eager for some fun – and more than happy to talk to and entertain foreigners.

Don’t be surprised if you ask someone for directions and they end up taking you where youwant to go, giving you a free lesson of Serbian culture, politics and history, buying you drinks,

and inviting you home for mom’s dinner later.

Dear friends,

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 2018 edition of the traditional SINERGY meeting (Serbian conference on INtERven-tional cardioloGY, cardiovascular imaging and drug therapy), which serves a as premier educational and networking platform for cardiologists from the broader region of Southeastern Europe.

This year, from September 6 to 8, 2018, in Crowne Plaza hotel in Belgrade, you will have the opportunity to find out about the newest evidence released at the European Society of Cardiology annual congress, discuss contemporary clinical dilemmas on the case-by-case basis and learn from the Legends of our profession led by Dr. Antonio Colombo, from Milano, Italy, a pioneer in complex percutaneous coronary interventions.

We will be sending out a weekly SINERGY 2018 Newsletter with the special focus on different parts of the scientific program as well as all updates regarding the congress...

In this first Newsletter, we introduce to you the central thematic part of SINERGY 2018, which parallels the ESC 2018 clinical guidelines release – what’s new in myocardial revasculari-zation in 2018? The overall concept is based on discussing the contemporary approach to both percutaneous and surgical myocardial revascu-larization by considering jointly the latest scien-tific evidence and cases from everyday practice.

On Friday, the 7th of September, from 15:00 to 18:00, a plenary session on 2018 approach to myocardial revascularization will be chaired by Dr. Antonio Colombo. During this session, Dr. Colombo will share his experi-ence over the years how to offer optimal percutaneous treatment to patients with complex coronary artery disease. In the same session, there will be two simultaneous, side-by-side LIVE transmissions: a state-of-the-art PCI by Dr. Javier Escaned from Hospital Clinico San Carlos, Madrid, Spain and coronary artery bypass grafting performed in the Clinical Center of Serbia by the guest operator Dr. Shuichiro Takanashi from Tokyo, Japan. The roundtable discussion will include renowned clinical and interventional cardiologists, as well as cardiac surgeons from East and West, in accord-ance with the official SINERGY motto: EAST meets WEST in BELGRADE.

Dear friends, The discussion on the management of patients with acute coronary syndromes, as a vast patient subset that has profited to a great extent from modern cardiovascular therapies, stands in the focus of the 2018 edition of the traditional SINERGY meeting (Serbian conference on INtERventional cardioloGY, cardiovascular imaging and drug therapy), which serves a as premier educational and networking platform for cardiologists from the broader region of Southeastern Europe.

It is our special honor this year to announce that Professor Stefan James from Uppsala, Sweden, who has been a leading interventional cardiologist in the ESC guideline committee in the field of ACS management (2017 ESC STEMI guidelines chair), will be promoted to a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade.During the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, the 6th of September, from 15:00 to 16:00, Professor James who is also a recognized expert in health-care improvement through establishment of national registries, will give his inaugural keynote lecture: Role of national registries in the contemporary standard of care for patients with ACS.

Following the conference’s guiding prin-ciple of multidisciplinary cooperation and SINERGY, the exchange of experiences and new scientific findings will pivot around both presentations of challenging cases from everyday clinical practice and state-of-the art overviews of contemporary approach-es to management of complex ACS cases.

On Friday, the 7th of September, from 15:00 to 18:00, a plenary session on 2018 approach to myocardial revascularization will be chaired by Dr. Antonio Colombo. During this session, Dr. Colombo will share his experience over the years how to offer optimal percu-taneous treatment to patients with complex coronary artery disease. In the same session, there will be two simultaneous, side-by-side LIVE transmissions: a state-of-the-art PCI by Dr. Javier Escaned from Hospital Clinico San Carlos, Madrid, Spain and coronary artery by-pass grafting performed in the Clinical Center of Serbia by the guest operator Dr. Shuichiro Takanashi from Tokyo, Japan. The roundtable discussion will include renowned clinical and interventional cardiolo-gists, as well as cardiac surgeons from East and West, in accordance with the official SINERGY motto: EAST meets WEST in BELGRADE.

Dear friends,

This year’s edition of the SINERGY meeting (Serbian conference on INtERventional cardioloGY, cardiovascular imaging and drug therapy), taking place from September 6 to 8, 2018, in Crowne Plaza hotel in Belgrade, will provide a unique opportunity for all interested cardiologists and members of other specialties involved in the care of patients with coronary artery disease to see LIVE transmissions of both percutaneous and surgical revas-cularization – SINERGY LIVE.

The unique session format will take place on Friday, September 7, 2018, from 15:00 to 18:00, and will be chaired by Prof. Antonio Colombo, a pioneer in complex PCI (Milano, IT), Prof. Marie-Claude Morice, a renowned interventional cardiologist and a leading expert in the field of PCI and antithrombotic therapy (Paris, FR), Prof. Umberto Benedetto, a renowned cardiac surgeon and one of the surgical task force members of the new ESC guidelines on myocardial revascularization (Bristol, UK) and Prof. Goran Stanković, president of the European Bifurcation Club and organizer of the SINERGY 2018 congress (Belgrade, RS). Our audience will have a distinctive opportunity of following two simultaneous LIVE transmissions.

Prof. Javier Escaned from Hospital Clinico San Carlos in Madrid, SPAIN will perform a LIVE case of a complex PCI, following the high-est contemporary standards including the use of intracoronary imaging with intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomogra-phy (OCT) and functional assessment with FFR/iFR. Prof. Escaned is also the lead author of the SYNTAX II trial, which indicated that if PCI is performed according to the highest standards with the use of IVUS/OCT and functional interrogation with FFR/iFR, it could match the results of surgical revascularization even in more complex patients. On the other hand, our guest operator, Prof. Shuichiro Takanashi from Tokyo, Japan will join the team of cardiac surgeons led by Prof. Svetozar Putnik and perform a LIVE transmis-sion of surgical revascularization according to the high-est contemporary standard, from Clinical Center of Serbia.

In addition to the traditional LIVE transmissions of complex PCI from Clini-

cal Center of Serbia with guest operators including world-renowned experts

Prof. Sunao Nakamura, Prof. Gerald Werner, Prof. Yves Louvard and Prof.

Shao-Liang Chen, we offer two LIVE transmissions from premier interven-

tional cardiology centers from INDIA (on Thursday, September 6th, 2018,

from MEDANTA Heart Institute in Delhi, by Dr. Rajneesh Kapoor, Director

of Interventional Cardiology, and on Friday, September 7th, 2018, from

RUBY HALL Hospital in Pune-Mumbai, by Dr. Shirish Hiremath, immediate

past-president Cardiology Society of India), as well as a LIVE transmission

of a complex CTO PCI from Clinical Center Niš, by Prof. Zoran Perišić, pres-

ident of the Working group on interventional cardiology of Cardiology socie-

ty of Serbia, and Dr. Nenad Božinović, a full member of the EURO CTO club.

Dear friends,

The founding motive and the traditional aim of the SINERGY meeting (Serbian conference on INtERventional cardioloGY, cardiovascular imaging and drug therapy) has been to bring together cardiologists from the broader region of Southeastern Europe and world-renowned, leading experts from both Europe and Asia, thus fostering exchange of experiences and the SINERGY of learning. This year’s SINERGY edition, taking place from September 6 to 8, 2018, in Crowne Plaza hotel in Belgrade, will for the first time in this region offer a tripartite learning experience, namely interactive sessions with a thematic focus on interventions, cardiovascular imaging and drug therapy. Thereby, the special focus this year will be on multidisciplinary approach to common clinical problems and dilemmas in cardiovascular drug therapy.

Aware that scientific evidence accumulates continuously and quickly modifies views and recommendations triggering heterogeneous clinical practice, we have selected the following hot topics in cardiovascular drug therapy to be addressed at the SINERGY by internationally recognized experts in the field:

Hot Topic 1. On Thursday, September 6th, from 12:00 to 13:00, a session will be held discuss-ing the evidence base and practical aspects of new drugs for diabetes and lipid management in cardiovascular patients. The session will be chaired by Professor Nebojša Lalić, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade and the Director of the Department of Endorinolo-gy, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, Clinical Center of Serbia, and Professor Katarina Lalić, a renowned expert in the field of lipid therapies. This session will give all SINERGY attendees the unique opportunity of putting new drugs for di-abetes and lipid management into the context of cardiac adverse event prevention prior to or af-ter percutaneous or surgical treatment options.

Hot Topic 2. On Thursday, September 6th, from 13:00 to 14:00, Association of Serbian Gas-troenterologists in cooperation with SINERGY will offer an educative series of presentations focusing on gastrointestinal bleeding compli-cations after PCI. The session will be chaired by Professors Miodrag Krstić and Tomica Milosavljević, together with Professor Vladan Vukčević, a renowned interventional cardiol-ogist from Clinical Center of Serbia. Similar to all Hot Topic sessions, this session has also been designed for a broader audience of car-diologists, gastroenterologists and other stake-holders, to discuss and learn the importance of bleeding events in cardiovascular patients, more specifically having undergone a PCI.

Hot Topic 3. On Friday, September 7th, from 11:00 to 12:30, Serbian Atrial Fibrillation As-sociation will, in cooperation with SINERGY, will present the contemporary evidence and the latest consensus regarding the antithrom-botic therapy in PCI. The session will include discussion about the latest evidence on this subject, and will be chaired by Assistant Pro-fessor Tatjana Potpara, president of the Serbian Atrial Fibrillation Association, Professor Milan Pavlović, an expert in antithrombotic therapy from Clinical Center of Niš, and Dr. Sanja Stanković, Director of Medical Biochemistry Unit of Clinical Center of Serbia. As special guests, Professor Jan Steffel from Zurich, Swit-zerland, will give a presentation about the use of NOACs in patients with AF based on the 2018 Update of the EHRA Practical Guide on NOAC, and Professor Gregory Lip, from Birmingham, UK, will discuss the antithrombotic therapy in patients with AF based on the key messages from the EHRA Consensus Document Update 2018.

In addition to the described Hot Topics, SINERGY 2018 participants will also have the opportunity to attend a session focusing on the new 2018 ESC Guidelines for CVD during pregnancy. The session will be designed by Cardiology Section of Serbian Medical Society, in cooperation with SINERGY, and will be chaired by Professors Branislava Ivanović and Bosiljka Vujisić-Tešić, professors at the Medical Faculty University of Belgrade, and Assistant Professor Danijela Zamaklar-Trifunović.

Dear friends,

Traditionally, the driving force of the SINERGY meeting (Serbian conference on INtERventional cardioloGY, cardiovascular imaging and drug therapy) has been its

diverse participants who while primarily attending from the broader region of Southeastern Europe, are also welcomed in Belgrade from Asia, more specifically from

China, Japan and India, thus creating a SINERGY of ideas and a gathering of professionals from different backgrounds who discuss contemporary clinical dilemmas

in cardiology. In this sense, the SINERGY 2018 edition, taking place from September 6 to 8, 2018, in Crowne Plaza hotel in Belgrade, will feature a wide array of pres-

entations of different treatment options for patients with complex coronary artery disease. The key will be to hear and discuss different local experiences from Asia and

Europe, and attempt to reconcile everyday local clinical practice with the contemporary evidence base and official European clinical guideline recommendations. In

the following, we highlight some of the international case-based sessions that will take place in the ROOM 2, combined with LIVE case demonstrations of intervention-

al coronary procedures, that will underline the international character of the SINERGY meeting and make its founding motive apparent – East meets West in Belgrade.

A strong Chinese delegation will share their

experiences from different Chinese centers on

how to approach complex PCI, matching its last

year’s presence of more than 20 presenters and

discussants. The Chinese interventional expe-

rience will be highlighted by the presentations

of the double-kissing (DK) crush technique for

treatment of coronary bifurcations, invented by

the SINERGY’s esteemed guest Professor Shao-

Liang Chen of the Nanjing Medical University,

and the Director of Cardiology and Cath Lab,

Nanjing First Hospital, Vice President of Nan-

jing First Hospital, Nanjing Medical University.

His experience will be matched by the high-est-level European experience in treating bifur-cation lesions, represented by Professors Yves Louvard and Goran Stanković, past and present President of the European Bifurcation Club

Leading interventional cardiologists from In-dia, including Rajneesh Kapoor and Praveen Chandra from Delhi, and Shirish Hiremath from Pune-Mumbai, will share their insights in treat-ing complex patients by means of satellite LIVE demonstrations from prestigious interventional centers from India, such as Medanta Heart In-stitute from Delhi and Ruby Hall Hospital from Pune-Mumbai and also by case-based presenta-tions in Belgrade, allowing for direct exchange of experiences in treating complex cardiology patients.

SINERGY 2018 participants will also have the opportunity to see and discuss the Japanese experience in treating chronic total occlusions as represented by Professor Sunao Nakamura and his team from New Tokyo Hospital, which will be enriched by European perspective led by Professor Gerald Werner from Darmstadt, Germany, past President of the EUROCTO club.

SINERGY is especially proud of having a wide array of local experiences from the broader region of Southeastern Europe, including case-based presentations from Bulgaria, Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia.

Dear friends,

The SINERGY meeting (Serbian conference on INtERventional cardioloGY, cardiovascular imaging and drug therapy) has over the years evolved as a gathering

of friends and experts in the field of interventional cardiology, cardiovascular imaging and drug therapy. It is our particular pleasure to announce that this year we

will have the honor of hosting some of the most distinguished interventional cardiologists from the world who have shaped the history of our profession. Therefore,

we invite you to actively participate in a series of sessions chaired by these distinguished cardiologists and learn from the best – LEARN from the LEGENDS.

Professor Antonio Colombo from Milan, Italy, who has been considered one of the fathers of modern interventional cardiology, and a pioneer in performing complex

percutaneous coronary procedures, will present his decades-old experience on How to achieve optimal results in patients with complex PCI, during a session dedicated

to myocardial revascularization on Friday, September 7th, from 15:00 to 18:00. In addition, Professor Colombo will share his insight on How to prevent and manage

complications in coronary interventions during a session on Saturday, September 8th, from 09:00 to 11:00.

Professor Yves Louvard, from Massy, France, one of the founding members and

the first president of the European Bifurcation Club, has been widely recog-

nized and celebrated for his pioneering work on classification and a structured

approach to treatment of coronary bifurcations, including the left main. These

efforts have found their expression in the widely read and respected Consensus

documents of the European Bifurcation Club, published annually in EuroInter-

vention, the official journal of the European Association of Percutaneous Car-

diovascular Interventions. Professor Louvard will give his insights on the up-

to-date approach to management of patients with coronary bifurcation and left

main disease, in a session on Thursday, September 6th, from 16:00 to 17:30.

Professor Sunao Nakamura, from New Tokyo, Japan, a world-leading expert

in percutaneous recanalization of chronically occluded coronary arteries

(CTO PCI), who is famous for performing the most difficult interventions

in several centers of excellence around the world, and a long-standing

friend of SINERGY, will share his knowledge with a presentation entitled

“Antegrade is my initial approach for every CTO PCI: tips and tricks for

success”, in a session on Thursday, September 6th, from 12:00 to 14:00.

Professor Gerald Werner, from Darmstadt, Germany, one of the founding members and the past president of the EUROCTO club, who is also the lead author of the recently published major randomized trial on CTO PCI, the EUROCTO trial, will present perhaps a more European perspective on CTO PCI, entitled “Structured approach to retrograde CTO PCI: the right steps at the right time”, in a session on Thursday, September 6ht, from 16:00 to 17:30.

Professor Shao-Liang Chen, from Nanjing, China, the inventor of the double-kiss-ing (DK) crush technique for percutaneous treatment of coronary bifurcations, and the lead investigator in the series of the randomized DKCRUSH trials dedicated to treatment of coronary bifurcation lesions, will share with SINERGY participants the presentation entitled “DK crush – an innovative approach to bifurcation PCI”, in a session on Friday, September 7th, from 09:00 to 10:30.
