THE NEWSLETTER OF ROTARY DISTRICT 7300

Including Allegheny, Beaver and Parts of Westmoreland Counes, Pennsylvania

September 2018

Thought for September, 2018

Dear Friends and Fellow Rotarians,

This year’s Theme by RI President Barry Rassen is “BE THE INSPIRATION”. My experience tells me that one cannot be an INSPIRATION to others unless one’s thoughts and actions are INSPIRING to them and they actually live an inspiring life.

So, here is what I ask of my fellow Rotarians: Let us take some time to meditate and reflect upon ourselves and ask the following:

Am I living an inspired life?

What thoughts and actions are inspiring to me and which ones aredetrimental to my own thinking?

Once we have made that conscious determination, then we can deliberately try to shed traits of those thoughts and actions that are unacceptable to us personally, and to people around us.

It is much more beneficial to remove an undesirable trait than to acquire a new desirable one. Once we have created enough empty space to accept the goodness, our propensity to accept and retain an enchanting thought will be much greater and results delightful.

Let us work on living a life of inspiration to truly “BE THE INSPIRATION”.

Yours in Rotary Service,

S. Singh Ajmani1

Membership Minute

You Have the Easiest Job By Karl Ohrman

As a committed Rotarian you have the easiest job in the world.

You have the responsibility to keep Rotary strong by developing membership in the greatest service organization that the human mind has ever conceived.

Anyone who has an ounce of love for their fellow citizens of

the world can see the good work Rotarians do even in the

remotest corners of the planet.

Within our District, most of our clubs do multiple projects that

help their local communities. These clubs also conduct many

international projects that benefit the needy in less developed

countries. The interesting thing is that Rotarians do this work willingly for

people they will probably never meet face to face.

Multiply all of these local and international projects times the 500 plus Rotary

districts and you can see the good and amazing work that Rotary does.

You should be proud to be a Rotarian. Proud to introduce neighbors, co-

workers and others you know to the greatest service organization in the world.

So you have an easy job. Who couldn’t sell such a terrific organization?

Our friends at Evanston provide us with huge amounts of membership

information and advice that can be used in membership development.

The future of Rotary is in your hands.

All you have to do is ask.

A fifth applicant, Ray Penascino, owner of Penascino Plumbing will be inducted in the near future.

Green Tree Rotary meets on Thursdays at noon at the Crowne Plaza Hotel West in Green Tree, with interesting speakers every week except club assembly. For a list of speakers and other information about the club, see: www.greentreetorary.org.

District Tech News: by Dennis Piper

Great Resources:

- Rotary International Web Site: www.rotary.org

Please visit the new and improved RI website. The new webmaster left Microsoft to

join the Rotary cause. There are great resources from the Rotary Citation to easy-to-

create brochures. You can even get 40% off Kennywood and Sandcastle tickets.

- District 7300 Web Site: www.rotarydistrict7300.org

We have done some significate work on the District website. We just added photos from the

2017 Atlanta International Conference and the 2018 District Conference. Check out thevideos on the home page and in the news section. If you have some District event photos,

we would love to post them. Please email any event and activities to the District Secretary.

PLEASE NOTE: All member, officer and club information must be entered

on the CLUBRUNNER DISTRICT WEBSITE, NOT the RI website. By

entering information on the District site, the RI site will be updated as well.

- Club Runner App: Available for all Smart Phones

If you would like a list of your members and all their information, download this free

app. The new version is awesome.

- Presidents and Presidents Elect: www.rotary.org

It is very important to fill in your goals and volunteer hours on the RI website. If you

need help, please let me know. It is not that painful and will benefit Rotary more than you

know. Thank you for all you hard work.

- The Presidential Citation is now called the Rotary Citation

- Check out the new and improved Rotary Club Central. Record your goals &

service activities. Quick link: https://rcc.rotary.org

- Assistant Governors: Technology also comes in the form of people who want to help you…

AGs are a great resource.

If you need assistance with any of these technologies and or would like to schedule a club

training session, please feel free to email [email protected] or call me: 412.292.7109

Please Use the ClubRunner Site

Member, Officer and Club information MUST be entered on the

ClubRunner site, NOT the RI site. The two sites are integrated,

but information only flows one way – from the District to RI. So

information entered on the ClubRunner site will update the RI

site; but information entered on the RI site will NOT flow back

to the District site. So, to keep the two sites in sync, please use

the ClubRunner site for Member, Officer and Club information.

Here’s an anagram to help you remember:

M – Member information

O – Officer information

C – Club information

K – Keep using the ClubRunner site

PS – Johnny Mock loves this anagram!

Also, from time to time, it’s good to check that both sites remain in

sync. Club officers can access the RI Member Synchronization function

on the ClubRunner Administration page, bottom, right. It is particularly

a good idea to perform this function in June and December, in

preparation for the July and January SARs.

Should you need assist, please contact District Technology Chairman

Dennis Piper [email protected] or District Secretary Sandra Rebholz

[email protected] .

25th ANNUAL DISTRICT 7300 INTERACT CONFERENCE

OCTOBER 26, 2018

CROWNE PLAZA HOTEL

PITTSBURGH WEST-GREEN TREE Fellow Rotarians, I am pleased to announce that plans are underway for our 25th Annual District 7300 Interact Conference, scheduled for Friday, October 26, 2018. This year we will continue to hold our Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Pittsburgh West - Green Tree. This hotel is located right next to the Green Tree Double Tree Hotel, the site of our previous Conferences. Our 2018-2019 Interact District Governor, Janelle Randolph, from Moon High School, is most anxious to take over her duties with the planning of the Conference so I am sure it will be another great event for Interact students. The invitations, instructions, etc., are included with this letter. The cost this year will be $50.00 per student. Should anyone wish additional information, feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 412 260-8128. Yours in Rotary Service, Sue Kelly, PDG, VG

September, 2018 To: All Participants of the 2018 Rotary Interact Conference

Welcome to another Interact Conference. The following information has been designed to give you some additional information, in advance, regarding the District Officers, District Interact Representative Nominee and District Interact Club Reporter. If you have additional questions please contact Sue Kelly at 412 260-8128 or [email protected].

Our Mission Statement – We, the Rotary club sponsors, promote attendance at the Interact Conference so that all of our students can get together to discuss their ideas and goals as they begin their journey in the field of Community Service. By personally meeting and sharing ideas, the students from all District schools, whether large or small, from east or west and everywhere in between, will develop an understanding and appreciation OF their fellow Interactors as they undertake the commitment of becoming Community Service leaders.

What is the Interact Board and how are candidates elected – The Board is comprised of this year’s officers elected at last year’s Conference from each of the four District areas. The student with the most votes will become the Interact District Governor on July 1, 2019.

Choosing your candidate – Your Candidate should be elected at a club meeting prior to registering for the Conference. A two or three-minute presentation as to the student’s qualification to the Board, etc., should be given to the Conference at large. Seniors are not eligible.

Voting – Each registered student will be given two voting cards. One white card for voting within your area only and a colored card to vote for outside of your area only. Ballot boxes will be provided. Those elected will be expected to be active members of the Board under the direction of this year’s District Governor.

The Reporter – Your reporter should be elected at a club meeting prior to registering for the Conference. The reporter is expected to submit information to the Interactions Magazine sponsored by the South Park Interact Club.

Projects and Displays – Clubs are encouraged to bring displays of club projects and set them up on tables provided in the main conference room in the clubs’ designated areas. Please remember that your display is your way of letting us know your accomplishments for the year and our way of determining awards.

Miscellaneous – There will be awards and drawings for participating clubs. Breakfast will consist of donuts, muffins, juice and coffee. Lunch will consist of pizza buffet, salad, breadsticks, cookies, brownies, chips and beverages.

Club Information Sheet – There is a Club Information Sheet enclosed for completion by each club. Please send, email or bring the form to the Conference.

The event includes professionally selected, coordinated and approved culinary treats, wines, and other amenities, including valet parking, professional photograph memento and entertainment.
