RESPECT LIFE “Only with prayer—prayer that storms the heavens for justice and mercy, prayer that cleanses our hearts and souls—will the culture of death that surrounds us today be replaced with a culture of life.” — Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Tradition teaches us Christ was conceived on the Feast of the Annunciation. We will watch the parallel development of “Joseph” in the womb beginning on March 25 (Feast of the Annunciation) until December 25. The Office of Human Life and Dignity is making available a series of bulletin messages describing the fetal development of “Joseph.” Each week we will send out the messages to the parishes. Please consider inserting these messages in the bulletin for the upcoming weeks and each week through December 25.

Fetal Development of "Joseph” (week 25) I’m really beginning to bulk up. I gained 6 ounces this week! I think most of it was muscle, but also some bone mass and some organ development. My taste buds allow me to distinguish bitter, sweet, and sour. My lungs have developed so well, I’m now officially considered viable. Joseph could live outside the womb. Each parent contributed 15,000 genes that determined not only what Joseph looks like, but also how Joseph interprets tastes, Joseph’s athletic abilities, allergies, health, and much more. “Yet you drew me forth from the womb, made me safe at my mother’s breast.” (Psalm 22:10) The Knights of Columbus food pantry collection is asking for these specific item: Cereals, Pancake Mix, Syrup, Jelly, Canned Tuna, Ham and Chicken, Beef Stew, Rice, Dried Beans, Mac and Cheese, Chunky Soups. Tooth Brush, Tooth Paste and Shampoo. As always we appreciate any donations. Please bring them to the Mass Saturday and Sunday. Any question call Ed Schulz 285-0711

The meeting schedule for 2015 is as follows: September 10; October 8; November 12; December 10

From the Desk of the Historian: You'll recall that each month we are asked to pray for various priests in our Diocese. This month we are asked to pray for Father Raphael Leon y

Valencia and Father Mark Betti. It has been our practice that whenever priests who have served our parish are on this prayer list that a brief summary of their background and their service is included in the bulletin. We are asked to pray for Father Raphael Leon y Valencia, our priest from 2008-2011, on September 12, next Saturday. Fr. Leon, a native of Cali, Colombia, was responsible for many of the artistic improvements of our church. He is currently in Washington, DC, enrolled in full time studies in Canon Law at the Catholic University of America. Between 2011 and this summer, he served as Parochial Vicar at St. Patrick's in Fayetteville; Pastor at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Newton Grove and St. Gabriel in Greenville;p and Administrator at Immaculate Conception in Newton Grove. More on Father Betti in the bulletin for September 19-20. 2015 Catechetical Sunday This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 20, 2015, and will focus on the theme "Safeguarding the Dignity of Every Human Person." Those whom the community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to

rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. The Office of Human Life and Dignity and the Office of Catholic Formation and Evangelization are collaborating to bring you this extensive page of resources. We are all catechists- teachers, parents, grandparents- really all of the lay faithful. The diocese has created a webpage which we hope will be useful at in your classrooms, in your parish and in your homes in promotion the theme of Safeguarding the Dignity of Every Human Person. Go to this website to learn more : http://dioceseofraleigh.org/content/catechetical-sunday-2015 The World Meeting of Families, and the events surrounding it, will take place the week of September 21, 2015. Bishop Burbidge and members of the faithful from around the Diocese of Raleigh will be in attendance. Share your photos and videos with us! In an effort to share the World Meeting of Families activities with people of the Diocese of Raleigh, the Diocesan Communications Department is asking anyone who is traveling to consider sharing photos that could be used in social media, NC Catholics Magazine, the diocesan website, and videos. We would also like to gather people and let them know where Bishop Burbidge will be along the way, in the hopes of connecting. If you are traveling to Philadelphia or Washington D.C. (for the Papal Visit), please email Director of Communications Billy Atwell ([email protected]). He would like to be in touch with you about sharing photos and videos from those in attendance. There may even be potential interview opportunities. The faithful back home would love to see and hear your experiences! There's an app for that! Whether or not you are able to attend in Philadelphia, the World Meeting of Families organizers have released a free app titled "Go Philadelphia!" that everyone can enjoy. It is available on both Apple and Android devices. Visitors will have instant access and detailed information about: • Institutions • Exhibits • Events/attractions • FAQs • Schedules • Maps • and more! There will also be real-time translation and captioning services in 8 languages during portions of the Papal Mass on Sunday, September 27. For those unable to attend, the Diocese will be posting photo and video updates to Facebook and Twitter throughout the week.
