LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, I am happy to announce to you this weekend that we are debt free having paid off the remainder of the debt on the Church building, of $184,000 through the first step of the 2012 Capital Campaign. The dedication and hard work of all the previous pastors in creating all the facilities on campus, and the faithfulness and generosity of so many parishioners over the years have brought to a happy end this debt. So, congratulations Church! I am also happy to announce that we are launching the public phase of The Capital Campaign, “Our Time to Pray, Our Time to Give” which seeks to do the following: raise $3 million to1. Eliminate the current debt [DONE]; 2. Build covered walkway and porte-cochere drop off for the Church; 3. Build a parish gymnasium. These three pieces came from the master planning process that was done several years ago. Opening the Campaign up means that as of this writing we have received in pledges $1,285,529.00 and $340,880.0 in cash [minus the $184,00.00 to eliminate the current debt. ] The Campaign is a three year pledge campaign, and we have to have in hand ½ of the amount needed for construction approval to be given by the Bishop. There is a Core Team leading this Campaign: Mr. and Mrs. Mark Polson, Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Cot-ton, Mr. and Mrs. Shane Morrison, Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie LaBorde, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Montgomery; Mrs. Wendy Gilmore, Mrs. Amie Williams, Mrs. Denise Louviere, and myself. We have partnered with the Institute for School and Parish Development for the past several years, represented by Mr. Bernard DuMond, to guide us in creating the Master Plan and in conducting the Capital Campaign thus far. I am asking you to read a packet of information about the Campaign and our plans. This packet will include a DVD produced by WBRZ about our parish and this Campaign effort. You will see on the DVD many of your friends and neighbors in the parish. Also, a history of the Master Plan process and the Campaign plans for our future. You will also find a personal letter from me in which I ask you to consider giving financially to the Campaign effort. Also included is a Letter of intent which allows me to receive from you your decision about participation in this Campaign. The parish is asking your prayerful support and your financial support. No amount of prayers or finances are too small to make an impact. Don’t forget that every first Wednesday of the month

at 8:15am Mass the Anointing of the Sick is offered. The Annual Gator Swamp Fest will be this coming Friday evening from 5:30pm-9:00pm on the Church grounds. There will be rides, food and entertainment for all ages. I hope the week ahead is a blessing for you all. God bless you. Love,

STRONG CATHOLIC FAMILIES Our parish plans to develop the program Strong Catholic Families. We have learned that parents are the most powerful teachers of the faith to their children and teens. It is our hope that as partners in religious formation, we will be able to support parents through resources, faith sharing ideas and various opportunities to make your Catholic faith an important part of your family’s everyday lives. Make plans now to attend a presentation on Strong Catholic Families on Monday, October 8th at 6 pm in Fr. Engels Hall. This meeting is required of all 2nd grade parents, but we encourage all parents to attend this gathering. If you need child care, we will be happy to have your children join our parish school of religion that evening from 6 – 7:15 pm. Please call 751.2926 to make arrangements.

SMALL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES October 20th and 21st

We live such hectic lives, that there is often so little time to notice what is happening to us. Gathering together regularly with a few fellow parishioners in a small Christian community offers people a chance to slow down, to be a bit more reflective about life, to sift & sort the things that count. Over time the small church community becomes a place where members ask: HOW MIGHT GOD BE ACTING IN THIS CRAZY MIXED UP LIFE THAT I AM LIVING, EVEN IF I DON’T PAY MUCH ATTENTION TO GOD’S PRESENCE ON A DAILY BASIS? Think about joining a Small Christian Community today. For further information call the parish office (751.2926) or evenings, call Lisa at 752.5569.

We extend our sympathy to the following parishioner who recently lost a loved one:

Janice Johnson and family on the death of her sister, Karen Lyons

ADORATION “NOT JUST ANOTHER MEETING”

All are invited on Tuesdays to continue their worship and love of God at adoration. It is a visit, not a meeting. A visit of ‘love to love’. Bring whatever is in your heart and soul and leave it at the feet of the Lord for HE will be at yours. “Adoration for the Blessed Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth”. -Mother Theresa Join us every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm for Eucharistic Adoration. Taking special time with our Lord is a great way to grow closer to Him.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY NEWS Food Drive October 6th & 7th Each week we provide food to families living within our parish’s boundaries. These are single parent families, elderly, and families on fixed incomes. They are sometimes waiting for food stamps to come, or in-between jobs. They come to us as a last resort in many instances. Our pantry must be ready and full to serve them, and our parishioners who may be in need also. We are in need of the following non-perishable food items this month. Please bring them to Mass with you the weekend of October 6th and 7th: helper dinners spaghetti sauce yams brown sugar can fruit peanut butter dirty rice mix instant potatoes jelly syrup pancake mix rice dry red beans dry white beans BBQ sauce cooking oil mayonnaise fruit snacks granola bars Items to be frozen, such as ground beef, chicken, bacon, sausage, sandwich meats, fish, and other fresh items may be brought to the parish office during the week only, during office hours. Please do not bring these items to the church with you. As always, we appreciate your generous support. Elizabeth Ministry Rosebud Program Last year our parish’s Elizabeth Ministry expanded to include the Rosebud Program, a unique way to show dignity and worth for all life. During the month of October, Respect Life Month, in Mary’s Chapel, you will find our display with instructions about how the program works. It will help us to identify, pray for and support those who are pregnant, celebrating birth and adoption, grieving miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, infant/child death or those wanting to conceive or adopt. If you have one of these special needs, please select the appropriate color-coded silk rose and place in the vase provided. Each week, we will pray for one of the needs according to the color of a live rose, which will be in a separate vase near the display.

Please join the KC's in praying a special Rosary during the Adoration of the Eucharist hour on Tuesday, October 2nd at 7PM. The special intention is to pray for our federal

government to rescind parts of the Affordable Healthcare Act dealing with abortion and contraception, an attack on our Catholic religious liberty.

THE CHALLENGE OF FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP

A Catholic Call to Political Responsibility

We need a new kind of politics focused on moral principles, not on polls, on the needs of the vulnerable, not the contributions of the powerful, and on the pursuit of the common good, not the demands of special interests. Some Catholics may feel politically home-less, sensing that no political party and too few can-didates share a consistent concern for human life and dignity. However, this is no time for retreat or discouragement. We need more, not less engagement in political life. Excerpt from AA Summary of the Statement by the Administrative Committee@ of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, For more information, go to www.faithfulcitizenship.org and search Faithful Citizenship articles.
