Or, do you want to complete your Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, 1 st Holy Communion, Confirmation)? The process for doing this is called the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) and for Children (RCIC). Registration for both is now open and materials are being ordered. RCIC is also open to all children who are in 4 th grade and above who have not yet received the Sacrament of 1 st Holy Communion. Remember, your child must have participated fully in one year of Religious Education/ Faith Formation in order to enter into the GIFT Sacramental Preparation Program (for 2 nd and 3 rd grades only). If you have any questions at all about the process of entering the Catholic Church, the Inquiry meeting on Tuesday, August 29 beginning at 6:30pm is the place for you. This is a very informal setting where you can inquire about the Rite of Christian Initiation process or even just ask questions about the Catholic Church. By His Cross, Jesus has shown us what Israel’s sacrifices of animals were meant to teachthat we owe to God all that we have. God’s kindness is a greater good than life itself, as we sing in today’s Psalm. The only thanks we can offer is our spiritual worshipto give our lives to the service of His will. Peter doesn’t yet get this in today’s Gospel. As it was for Jeremiah, the cross is a stumbling block for Peter. This too is our natural temptationto refuse to believe that our sufferings play a necessary part in God’s plan. That’s how people think, Jesus tells us today. But we are called to the renewal of our mindsto think as God thinks, to will what He wills. In the Mass, we once again offer ourselves as perfect and pleasing sacrifices of praise. We bless Him as we live, confident that we will find our lives in losing them, that with the riches of His banquet, our souls will be satisfied. (Sunday Bible Reflection, Scott Hahn)

Christian Stewardship ~ A Way of Life

Today’s First Reading catches the prophet Jeremiah in a moment of weakness. His intimate lamentation contains some of the strongest language of doubt found in the Bible. Following God’s call, he feels abandoned. Preaching His Word has brought him only derision and reproach. But God does not deceive—and Jeremiah knows this. He tests the just, and disciplines His children through their sufferings and trials.

What Jeremiah learns, Jesus states explicitly in today’s Gospel. To follow Him is to take up a cross, to deny yourself—your priorities, preferences, and comforts. It is to be willing to give it all up, even life itself, for the sake of His gospel. As Paul says in today’s Epistle, we have to join ourselves to the Passion of Christ, to offer our bodies—our whole beings—as living sacrifices to God. By His Cross, Jesus has shown us what Israel’s sacrifices of animals were meant to teach—that we owe to God all that we have. God’s kindness is a greater good than life itself, as we sing in today’s Psalm. The only thanks we can offer is our spiritual worship—to give our lives to the service of His will.

Peter doesn’t yet get this in today’s Gospel. As it was for Jeremiah, the cross is a stumbling block for Peter. This too is our natural temptation—to refuse to believe that our sufferings play a necessary part in God’s plan. That’s how people think, Jesus tells us today. But we are called to the renewal of our minds—to think as God thinks, to will what He wills. In the Mass, we once again offer ourselves as perfect and pleasing sacrifices of praise. We bless Him as we live, confident that we will find our lives in losing them, that with the riches of His banquet, our souls will be satisfied. (Sunday Bible Reflection, Scott Hahn)

What’s Happening at Our Parish...

LIVING ROSARY

Pax Christi will start a living rosary on Sunday, September 17th after the 10:30 a.m. Mass. The Rosary will continue each month on the 3rd Sunday. Each person who joins will be assigned a specific mystery and intention for the following month and will pray one decade of the Rosary every day during that month. When we meet on the 3rd Sunday after the 10:30 Mass, we exchange prayer cards with the mysteries and intentions. You do not have to meet anyone daily, you pray individually any time of the day at your own convenience. While praying and meditating your assigned decade each day of every month, Our Blessed Mother Mary is leading you slowly to Her Son Jesus.

With completion of the 20 months, you will start over from the beginning, which is why it’s called Our Lady’s Living Rosary. Each group of 20 is called a rose. When it is your turn to pray the First Decade of each Mystery of the Rosary, you will also say the prayers that begin the Rosary: the Apostles Creed, the Our Father, three Hail Marys, a Glory Be, and the Fatima Prayer. When it is your turn to pray the Fifth Decade of each Mystery of the Rosary, you will say the ending prayer: Hail, Holy Queen.

If, however, you forget to pray your decade of the Rosary on a day, please pray it twice the following day. This way you will have completed the Rosary which was not completed the day before. If you have your own intentions, pray the decade again.

Contact Bernadette at [email protected] or 303-506-0917 if you wish to participate or have any questions.

Youth Ministry

Parish Ministries

Our Middle School group meets on Wednesdays from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. All 7th and 8th grade students are invited to attend. This group strives to form the youth as disciples of Jesus Christ, striving to glorify Him in relationships and situations in life. We form friendships in Christ through

fun games and fellowship. We deepen our faith and challenge each other through small group discussions. We encounter God through prayer and the Sacraments.

We strive to deepen our faith and incorporate it into our daily lives as disciples of Christ through engaging talks, small group discussions and prayer. Young men & women’s discipleship groups meet on Thursday nights from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. All high school aged young people are welcome!

Welcome to the Pax Christi Confirmation Program! The Sacrament of Confirmation is given to the baptized in order to more perfectly bind the Candidates to God through His Church. Through this Sacrament, your child will be enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit to be true witness-

es of Christ. Our entire Confirmation Preparation Program is structured in a way to encourage the candidates to not just go through the motions but to be open to the life changing power of the Holy Spirit as we saw in the apostles at Pentecost.

Also, please consider volunteering to be a small group leader for these classes! This is a great opportunity to get to know the teens of Pax Christi! With small groups of six-eight students, you have the opportunity to grow in community and truly be Christ to the teens of our community throughout the year! The Catholic Legacy Society was created to honor our legacy donors who have named their parish, Catholic school or a ministry of the Diocese of Colorado Springs as a beneficiary in their will or trust, retirement account, charitable gift annuity or charitable trust, life insurance policy, or through the establishment of an endowed fund.

The Diocese is grateful to acknowl-edge these special benefactors during their lifetimes. And, in conjunction with our mission, this special society provides an opportunity for benefac-tors to make their philanthropy a perpetual legacy for themselves and an example for their families. It also creates an infrastructure of support that makes our parishes, schools and ministries stronger, sustainable and better equipped to reach future generations.

If you have named your parish, a Catholic school or a ministry of the Diocese of Colorado Springs in your estate plan, or are considering doing so, we invite you to become a member of the Catholic Legacy Society.
