The program will be held on Wednesday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Milford High School. A representative from a local college will provide college information that is relevant for 6th grade students. This presentation will encompass topics such as financial aid and planning, steps to take before high school, and exploring a student’s varied interests. Board Makes Lacrosse Varsity Sport At their meeting on September 17, the Milford School Board adopted Lacrosse as a varsity sport beginning with the 2016- 2017 school year. The district will sponsor four teams: varsity and junior varsity teams for both boys and girls, grades 9-12. The Board also reduced or eliminated the turf fees for the varsity and junior varsity boys' and girls' school sponsored club teams. In addition, the school district will purchase netting beginning with the 2015-2016 season, so spring sports teams can then use the track at the same time the turf field is being used. We all know that life provides us a roller coaster range of highs, lows, and sharp changes in direction. Our learning community had one of those this past weekend. One of our sixth graders was diagnosed with Lymphoma on Friday and was immediately admitted to the hospital. Her mother has asked me to share this update with our school community: "Her cancer (tumor) has shrunk a great deal. She is no longer considered to be in the critical phase. Grace has done above and beyond with her healing - more so than they had hoped. She is just tired but doing better. She misses everyone. She can't believe she is saying this but she actually misses school. Grace will be in the hospital for several weeks and will not return to school for a while. This is going to be a very long process. Thank you for your prayers and thoughts. " Our sixth graders have responded admirably in the face of this news and are eager to support their friend in anyway they can. That has begun with the creation of "Grace- grams" that help send well wishes and news from the class. We will work with the grade to identify realistic proposals and to help make some of those ideas realities in the coming months. In the meantime, we ask that you keep this family in your thoughts. It is a great privilege to work with such a strong community. Our main mission may to be to provide all learners with the highest quality education in an effort to maximize each individual academically, but life teaches us that sometimes the greatest lessons aren't just about academics. Board Makes Lacrosse Varsity Sport

At their meeting on September 17, the Milford School Board adopted Lacrosse as a varsity sport beginning with the 2016- 2017 school year.

Her mother has asked me to share this update with our school community:

Mitchell Snow, of Loveland Troop 635 has recently completed his Eagle Scout project. He refurbished a nature trail at McCormick

elementary school. He received 3 dump truck loads of wood chips donated by Davey Tree. He and his volunteers spent 206 hours

over 5 months cleaning the trail, laying down wood chips, removing old debris and rehabbing an existing foot bridge. Thank you, Mitchell, for making this outdoor area available to McCormick

students and our community!

The PTO sent home Parent Contact Information and Room Parent Volunteer forms a few weeks ago, and we are still looking for people to send those back to school if you have not already done so. These forms are used by each class’s room parent to contact parents throughout the year when organizing parties and planning teacher gifts. Even if you are unable to help out in the classroom during parties, please fill out one of these forms to facilitate communication between parents.

Additionally, we are still looking for volunteers for room parents for the following classes: Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Essex, and Mrs. Pettit. If your child is in one of these teacher’s classes and you are at all interested in becoming a room parent or have any questions, please contact [email protected]. Room parents are responsible for communicating with teachers regarding two class parties (holiday and end-of-year), contacting parents during planning time for donations and classroom volunteers, and collecting donations for teacher gifts from the entire class. It is very important to have a room parent for each class in order to take the burden off of the teacher when it comes to party planning, and it also ensures teacher recognition throughout the year.
