The "Quilt Sisters" program is designed to pair experienced guild members with new members to help make them feel welcome: answer any questions about guild activities and quilting in general. This program is available to any new member who chooses to take advantage

of the program but it is not a requirement to become a member.

Sharon Morkal will head up this program.

Show us what you do or learn something new!

Bring something for show and tell,

attend workshops, or donate a quilt and be en-

tered into a drawing for a free membership.

Drawing at the Christmas Party in early

December. Show and tell is a favorite part of

our meeting. Please share your projects.

August meeting had 68 members and 3 guests. We now have 120 paid members.

WORKSHOP INFORMATION Free Guild Workshops are held the Saturday

following our 4th Tuesday of the monthly membership meeting. They are usually lo-cated at the Kokomo South Branch Library

from 10am to 3 pm.

This year the focus is the KPQG block of the month along with the opportunity to be tutored by our talented members to learn

and develop our skills. Blocks might be in-cluded in a donation quilt to the community outreach program. The ideas are endless. Workshops are open to members and non-

members. Please volunteer to work with a

newbie quilter at these workshops.

CHARITIES OF THE KOKOMO

PIECEMAKERS GUILD

Due to the reconstruction of Kokomo Urban Outreach, they no longer need quilts from our guild, They have discon-tinued their baby college (parenting clas-ses). After checking with several other plac-es, we will be donating quilts to the Ko-komo Police Department. They will need quilts of any size. They remove as many as 100 children, from babies to teenagers a year, from their homes. We will still donate to the Jackson Commons Vets Home. They need twin size quilts, and things to make their room more homelike. Pillows, pillowcases, wall hangings, and table toppers are wel-comed. The quilts for the police department and Healthy Families will be collected at our November meeting. The quilts for Jackson commons Vets home can be brought to any meeting, and will be delivered to the home If you have any questions, please con-tact Linda Oteham. Jean Mize has an old quilt she would

like repaired. If interested call her at 765-453-0391

Sign-up for quilt appraisal will be available at the August and Sep-tember meetings. Remem-ber that if you want a quilt appraised that will be hanging in the show, you must prepay for that apprais-al at the time you sign up. The yard signs for the quilt show will be handed out primarily at our September meeting, but Mar-ilyn Parkin will have a few at the August meeting for those who are not able to make the September meeting. INSTRUCTIONS to Sew a Hanging Sleeve After the Quilt is Bound These instructions allow extra space for a round rod. http://quilting.about.com/od/decoratingwithquilts/ss/quilt_sleeve.htm#step-heading

The quilt sleeve can be permanent or temporary and it can be sewn on after you apply the binding. Sew on a Sleeve After Binding the Quilt Cut or piece together fabric to make a strip 9" tall and the same width as the quilt.

Fold under short edges 1/4", wrong sides together. Fold under again. Press. Sew a straight or zigzag seam to hem the folds.

Now fold the strip lengthwise, wrong sides together, aligning its raw edges. Sew together with a 1/2" seam allowance. Press the seam allowance open.

Place the open seam against the quilt's back. Center and pin the top edge of the tube to the back of the quilt, about 1/2" below the binding.

Use a whipstitch to sew the top edge of the tube to the quilt backing. Stitch into the batting occasionally to help strengthen the seam.

Smooth the sleeve downward along the quilt back, then make a 1/2" fold along its length to create a pleat. Leaving the pleat intact, pin the sleeve bottom to the quilt.
