International Day, which was held on Friday, February 13th, was a HUGE hit this year! The theme was "Water for All" and we had two guest speakers: Gary McClure from Johnson County's Emergency Management System and Richard Meece from the Paintsville Utilities Commission. We had a great time, learned a lot, and had one

of the best meals we've had in a while! We raised enough money in the auction to buy 3 water filters for a country in need. Thanks to International Day chairperson Sharon Castle, Sharon Fannin and Tammy Penix!

The OSCAR Valentine’s Dinner was a huge hit this year too! A delicious KY Proud dinner was prepared by Norma Burchett, chair of the Culinary Arts Committee, and served alongside live music and karaoke. Thanks

to all who helped out or attended! 4.

The Flat Gap Homemakers Club is known for their lap quilts, that’s for sure! Over the past 15 years, they have donated around 2,500 warm and comforting quilts to those in need,

including the elderly, retired veterans, and hospital patients. The Johnson County Extension FCS program and the Flat Gap Club are excited to offer a series of free workshops so that you can learn to make lap quilts and participate in this great project! On every Tuesday in May from 10-2 PM at the Red Bush Church, the club members will teach the following techniques: cutting fabrics, piecing a patchwork quilt, assembling a quilt, tacking, and binding. All quilts made during this

workshop will be donated to the lap quilt project. For more information on these workshops, please contact the Club President, Rose Ann Rowland, at (606) 297-6518.

A Message From Brenda… It is always exciting to watch leaders grow and see all the wonderful things they can achieve by setting goals and working together! We have such wonderful leaders and it is so exciting for me to imagine all the potential! I shudder to think what this county would be like without all the terrific programming going on, and I am honored to be a part of it. This year I have observed phenomenal growth in leadership. The Kentucky Arts Council used to talk about breadth and depth, and quantity and quality of leadership… well, we have that here and the results are thrilling! The road is not always easy, but the journey sure is fun.
