Welcome and PrayerMeeting was called to order at 6:30pm.Alison led us in prayer to open the meeting.

Introductions Introduce members, Principal and welcome new members

General Updates

Review last year’s commitments Playground renewal and buddy benches on site. Photo op for TD Bank as they granted the

money to complete this project. New bike racks – provided by the Board. Able to lock scooters as well 2nd water filling station on site Learning Commons Renewal (Library). Looking to upgrade this space. 25th Anniversary Celebration was a success last year. A lot of the fundraising went into this

initiative. Chromebooks with cart and re-charging bins at maximum as per Board policy. Each portable has

its own recharging cart. Landscaping: school renewal. Thanks to Michelle and Kim for planting the mums out front.

Question arose as to why there is no play structure on school property. Several reasons:

o Property line. Land actually belongs to the cityo Boards getting away from these structures due to the liabilityo Insurance is a nightmareo Inspections required regularlyo Money implications for school council

Note: Rebecca is interested in Fundraising for next year and Sherill is interested in Spirit for next year.

Fundraising Review for 2017-18 Next meeting have some ideas of what our fundraising goals should be example: uniforms, Skills

Canada T-shirts, learning commons Graduation back at Hespeler arena. Funds earmarked for grad. Grad Mass at St. Mary’s and

luncheon back at the gym. Stipend towards grad so every kid gets a folder with the diploma and a class picture.

Proposed earmarks: Learning Commons Guest Speakers (Black history/Aboriginal history/resiliency) School Renewal

Treasure books envelope went home with children to be returned October 10 th It’s an online app not a book.

Ballad for every card sold for Principle for a day and a lunch Top 2 prizes get a Visa or MasterCard gift card. $100 for top prize, $50.00 for 2nd. In case of a tie,

both get $100.00. Top class will get an ice cream sundae party 300 bought, potential for 80% profit ($5000)

Principal Report – Leo WCDSB Memo to School Councils available to new members if interested Enrolment Report and State of the Nation – currently 381 children enrolled. Capped at 20-1

ratio. Waiting for a portable.

September 2017 Meeting Minutes School Improvement Plan 2017-18 to be submitted by October 18th : CCC, Numeracy and

Literacy Goals School EQAO 2016-17 Preliminary Results. Both grade 3’s and grade 6’s outdid the Board and the

Province in reading, writing and Math. School Website and Need to Improve Communication with Parents: Continue to use Newswire Foundations for a Healthy School: Next Steps” “Student Wellness”. Bring in speakers. Eco School Designation: Working with a goal of platinum designation Carizon Counselling Services will be at St. Elizabeth every second week and they will do referrals

to assist in accessing resources within the community PRO Grant: Presentation by Kate Jones and Associates: November 22: “GPS: Navigating Your

Child’s Personality Type”. Grant has yet to be approved but Leo stated he will pay for it out of the school’s budget if necessary.

School Council will set aside funds to support families in need specifically with respect to trips so no child is left behind.

Thanksgiving Food Drive for St. Vincent de Paul until October 5 through St. Mary’s Church Opening School Year Mass Thursday September 28th Terry Fox Walk and Run Thursday September 28th. Bring a toonie for Terry. Halloween Spirit Day and Dance where the children can dress in appropriate costumes or wear

black and orange. School Council Meeting Dates 2017-18 forwarded by Alison. Added to minutes as well.

Spirit Committee – Tina Will send out a list of spirit days for the year

Valentine’s Dance & Silent Auction Volunteers required creating a sub-committee for this fundraiser. Contact Alison if able to assist. Dance is scheduled for Thursday, February 8th, 2018. Last year just over 110 families attended and we raised $6000.00 Volunteers needed to contact potential business for donations to the silent auction Letter available to give to potential donors Rebecca & Leanne volunteered do this. If more volunteers available contact Alison. She will give

a list of previous donors. Avoid contacting the same donor twice. Co-ordination of this aspect of the fundraising is necessary to avoid duplication.
