Dear Cimarron Springs Stallions, Happy September! It’s hard to believe how quickly the first month of school has flown by! We are excited to continue our journey to excellence this 2016-17 school year. The Growth Mindset is in full swing and we hope you are seeing your students excited about learning! Our academic goals will continue to emphasize the 4C’s of 21st Century Learners: Collaboration, Creativity, Communication, and Critical Thinking. Our focus on standards across disciplines, including technology, will reinforce student success.
Cimarron Springs promotes a positive culture by recognizing positive character in many ways. Each month, students have the opportunity to be recognized by their teachers for demonstrating one of the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Responsibility, Caring, Citizenship, Fairness, and Respect). Students who are recognized for their character will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with the Principals, receive a certificate, and pencil. We are also looking forward to our new quarterly Character Counts Assemblies. These new assemblies will recognize the Character winners during each quarter. Stallion Eyes are another new initiative at Cimarron Springs. Staff recognize students who are caught modeling the Pillars of Character. Students will then be entered into a drawing for a chance to be publicly recognized on the announcements. They will also have the opportunity to pick a prize from the treasure box if their name is drawn. During the daily announcements, students are challenged to ponder a Character question. September’s focus is on Trustworthiness. August’s was Cultivating a Positive Attitude. We are also recognizing students through Positive Office Referrals. With a Positive Office Referral, Administration will call home for students recognized for modeling a Pillar of Character. On Spirit Fridays, the two classes that are wearing the most spirit wear receive a week-long visit from our stuffed Stallion siblings, Stanley and Stella. Classes will then have the opportunity to write stories and make books about the learning adventures that occurred throughout the week. Students and staff also recognize each other through Stallion Shout-outs, which is directly tied to the Rachel’s Challenge commitment of spreading kindness. With that said, the Friends of Rachel's Club (FOR) will be starting soon. Rachel's Challenge is an initiative to encourage people to start a chain reaction of kindness. The FOR Club is active on all campuses, including Cimarron Springs. Creating and keeping alive a culture of kindness is an ongoing effort. Some of the activities FOR Club will be continuing, this year include: Dysart Heartbeat awards, High Five Hallway of Kindness, Kindness Goal setting, Shout-outs to staff, students and our Cimarron Community, and special events district wide for Rachel's Challenge. We encourage students in 4th-8th grade to consider joining the FOR Club.
It is an honor and a privilege to work with you as partners in your child’s education. We appreciate all the ways you support Cimarron Springs, and look forward to seeing you at our Stallion Showcase coming up on September 29th. More information will be sent home soon. Respectfully,
Ms. Kristie Franco Mrs. Alicia Ormsbee

Character Counts September’s Pillar: Trustworthiness
In September, we are focusing on trustworthiness. We ask students to consider the following questions: What is trust? Do you have the courage to do what’s right? Do you do what you say you will do? Can your friends trust you? How do you know?
