After searching for a new
home for over two years,
Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy
is proud to announce that we
are moving to our new
location at 109 South Cedar
St. in downtown Mobile. This
new location will allow the
staff and volunteers of
Ozanam to better serve our
patients in a comfortable
environment.
The new building features a
larger waiting area for our
patients, a bigger front
counter space to quickly and
effectively serve our patients.
There will be designated
offices for case
management and
patient assistance so
our patients can
comfortably talk with
trained case workers.
In addition, there is a
dedicated fundraising
and marketing area to help
better plan events and allow
more volunteers to help the
pharmacy in our mission of
providing medications to our
patients. There is even a break
room for the staff and
volunteers to enjoy their
lunches together.
The building is being granted
to Ozanam by the Mobile
County Public School
Board of
Commissioners.
In order to convert
the space to a
pharmacy, our angels
in hard hats, Lanier
Construction,
donated their time
and talents to renovate
the building. Lanier
helped make the
changes to the building
to bring the building up to
Alabama State Board of
Pharmacy code. The Pleasant
Valley Opportunity Club also
assisted in the renovations.
Alabama Power and Mercy
Medical both graciously
donated furniture for the new
office space, which will help
the pharmacy accommodate
the expected influx of
volunteers. Target donated a
TV in the conference room.
Vulcan Inc. in Foley donated
the sign. Dr. Donald
Ponquinette passed his
shelving from the old Lincoln
Pharmacy to the new location.
Labits Heating and Air
Conditioning inspected the
Air Conditioning unit and
tuned it up to keep the new
office cool during the
summers.
The new facility will be open
to serve our patients on
Monday August 31 at 9 am.
Keep your eyes peeled on our social media and the mailbox for an invitation to our grand opening in the coming months. This event will take place at the new location and is sponsored by Hargrove Engineers and Constructors.

Matthew assisted
with the
marketing of the
pharmacy and
even got the sign
for the new
location donated
from Vulcan Inc.
in Foley. On May 22nd and 23rd,
Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy
hosted, “Angels in the Attic,”
an upscale attic sale at 210
Dauphin St., right next to the
Crescent Theater. Two weeks
prior to the sale Ozanam
began collecting items to sell
to raise money to purchase
generic medications for our
patients. We had a fantastic
response from the community
and we were able to collect
enough items to fill the space
for the sale.
From the time we
opened the doors on
Friday morning, to
when we closed up
shop on Saturday
afternoon, we had a
full house of people
who were shopping to
support the work of
Ozanam.
One shopper we were
talking to expressed
his interest in
supporting Ozanam.
“Even if you have
insurance today, that
doesn’t mean that you’ll have
it tomorrow. I want to help
(Ozanam Charitable
Pharmacy) because I may
need (your services)
sometime.”
This event would not have
been able to happen without
the help of our wonderful
board member, Moren
Braswell aka Wonder
Woman. Anyone that came to
the sale may have seen Moren
running around the sale
moving items that were 2 and
even 3 times bigger than her.
Thank you Moren for
everything you did for this
great event that raised over
$10,000.
After searching for a space to
hold the attic sale, Mr. John Switzer came to the rescue of the pharmacy and provided us
with the beautiful space to
host this great event. If you know of anyone who is
looking for a retail space in downtown Mobile, make sure you give Mr. Switzer, our
Angel in the Attic, a call.

Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy finished their tenure with the AmeriCorps VISTA program. After a year of hard work the VISTAs have left their year of service, but they aren’t leaving the Ozanam family.
VISTA Mary Dozier has been hired to work with Ozanam’s partner, the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission. Mary is continuing to volunteer with the pharmacy one day a
week. Everyone at Ozanam will miss seeing Mary everyday, but we wish her the best in all of her efforts.
Longtime member of the Ozanam family, Clarissa Lemon-Phalo, finished her year of VISTA service back in June. Clarissa is spending some time with her children, but will return to Ozanam to volunteer with the pharmacy in both administrative and fundraising functions. The volunteers, staff, and patients all
miss Clarissa’s smile and we look forward to her return.
The “Yankee” of the group, Christopher Chambers, was hired on to Ozanam’s staff as the Marketing and Development Manager. “I’m very excited to stay in Mobile with my Ozanam family,” Christopher said in a recent meeting. “I feel honored to stay with Ozanam and use my time and energy to continue Ozanam’s fundraising efforts.”
VISTAS MOVE ON, BUT NOT OUT OF THE FAMILY
Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy said goodbye to our summer volunteers, Claire Cain and Matthew Westerfield. Claire assisted with the administrative functions of the pharmacy including filing, stuffing newsletters and other functions
where she was needed. Claire will be returning to McGill Toolen for her senior year of high school and wants to go into the medical field after she
graduates. Matthew assisted with the marketing of the pharmacy and even got the sign for the new location donated from Vulcan Inc. in Foley. Matthew also assisted with database management. Matthew will be starting college at Auburn University in the fall where he will be studying Electrical Engineering. If you are interested in volunteering
at the pharmacy, either to help with administrative duties or to help with the marketing and fundraising, please contact Shearie Archer at

Volunteer Profile
Hellen “Cookie” Mellon
has been volunteering
with Ozanam Charitable
Pharmacy for nearly 3
years.
Cookie began volunteer-
ing at Ozanam when
Wiley Christian, board
president, told her about
the organization and
asked her to temporarily
fill in. Three years later,
she is still going strong.
When Cookie is not vol-
unteering at the phar-
macy, she enjoys read-
ing and is very active in
the St. Vincent De Paul
society of her church.
We are always excited
for Wednesday after-
noons when Cookie
comes in to help dis-
pense medications to
our patients. Cookie is
one of the many great
volunteers that Ozanam
is blessed to have.
