How do I enroll to use Ozanam

Charitable Pharmacy?

Step One:

Call (251) 432-4111 to find a Certifying Agency

near you or visit our website at

www.ozanampharmacy.org. Make an appoint-

ment with a case worker to qualify.

Step Two:

Be prepared to bring a valid Driver’s License or

Photo ID, a current bill with your address, a list

of all prescription medications you are currently

taking.

Please also bring all of the following about the

income of the household:

*Statement showing social security, disability,

retirement benefits, or food stamp letter.

*Pay check stubs or most recent tax return

(1099s or W-2s are also accepted.)

*Any other document the patient thinks may be

relevant to their financial situation.

Step Three:

If you qualify, bring a valid prescription to Oza-

nam Charitable Pharmacy to be filled. You will

need to be recertified every six months.

How does the pharmacy operate?

Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy operates in the

same way a retail pharmacy does, only our

patients do not pay for their medications. Af-

ter being certified to use the pharmacy, a pa-

tient will drop off his/her prescriptions at the

pharmacy and two business days later they

can pick them up.

How do you provide your patients

with free medications?

Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy is funded

through grants, contributions from private

foundations, government agencies, individual

donations and special events. Ozanam also

receives in-date sample medications from area

physicians. We also partner with organiza-

tions like Direct Relief International to receive

medications through their Bulk Replenish-

ment Program.

What is Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy? Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy is a free prescription

drug program for uninsured residents of Mobile,

Baldwin, and Escambia Counties.

Ozanam provides both generic and name brand medi-

cations to its patients for their chronic diseases such

as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and

asthma.

Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy has been in operation

since 1998. The pharmacy is named after Frederic

Ozanam, founder of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

The pharmacy is staffed by a licensed pharmacist,

who is assisted by several volunteer pharmacists and

pharmacy technicians, to help fill over 34,000 pre-

scriptions for over 1,600 individual patients every

year.

As a non-profit organization, Ozanam Charitable

Pharmacy uses donations of samples by area physi-

cians to fill the prescriptions of eligible patients. In

order to provide name brand medications to our pa-

tients, we have a Patient Assistance Manager who

solicits the pharmaceutical companies to donate the

medications to our patients. We also purchase generic

medications using funds through grants, contribu-

tions from private foundations, government agencies,

individuals, and special events.
