From the President's DeskGreetings,

They're back! WIU and SRC students have returned, District #185 busesare on the streets. A new academic year has begun in Macomb. Withthat comes positive energy, new ideas and hopefully a lot of increasedtraffic into our local businesses. More than ever, we need the studentsand faculty of our educational partners to keep our economy moving.

On August 18, the Chamber, along with Macomb DowntownDevelopment, greeted 40 new WIU faculty members. We gave thembags stuffed with special offers and coupons from our members. That's 40potential new customers for your business! September is a busy month in our office. We kick off the fall season withour annual CUPP Party Table Fair on September 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. on thelawn in front of Sherman Hall. This event, featuring tons of food, gamesand prizes, allows our members to showcase their goods and services toHUNDREDS of WIU students and faculty as well as community members. Tables and chairs are provided and there is NO FEE to participate.

On Tuesday, September 15, in honor of Illinois Chamber Week, we will hosta Member Appreciation Open House from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. We will beserving light refreshments and have a few drawings as well.

We wrap up the month with our annual Legislative Lunch on Monday,September 28 from 11 a.m.to 1 p.m. at Spoon River College CommunityOutreach Center. Sen. John Sullivan and Rep. Norine Hammond willspeak about legislative issues pertinent to our particular region andeconomy. This luncheon is filling FAST! We highly recommend you sign uptoday!! That is a just a peak of things to come. I have been very busy workingwith other Chamber executives to learn about the latest benefits andprograms to help our members grow and succeed. Buckle up!

The Chamber out in the Community

A huge thank you to our very generous members who donated items thatwere handed out to forty people at the WIU New Faculty Orientation.

After the WIU New Faculty Orientation, the chamber along with AndreaKeene met Travis Sterling, Outreach Coordinator with U.S. Senator Mark

Kirk.

The Chamber, along with MAEDCO and the City of Macomb, attended theCorridor 67, Inc. annual meeting in Jacksonville, IL. We heard from several

State and U. S. legislators about transportation funding for our area.

To reserve a date, call theChamber office at (309) 837­4855.McDonough District Hospital is one of only ten hospitals in the countryselected to participate in a 2­year Fall Prevention Program sponsored bythe Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the U.S. Departmentof Health and Human Services. MDH will be working with QualityImprovement Specialists and leading national experts to implement the fallprevention program to ensure patient safety at MDH. The team is picturedbelow.
