Fun & Fellowship Orchard Tour & Potluck
Last month’s Fun & Fellowship Orchard Tour & Picnic had
to be postponed due to severe heat and smoke. It has
been rescheduled for Thursday, September 10th, hosted by
Tom & Dolores Pheasant. We will meet at the church at
4pm to carpool to the orchard. Jeff Pheasant will show
new orchard practices in a “drive and stop” manner, no walking around needed. After
the orchard tour, we will meet back at the church for our potluck dinner. After potluck,
a brief program will be held. We will have a sign-up sheet available for hosts & hostesses
of future Fun & Fellowship events and programs.
Are you ready for Sunday School? We are! Sunday School will start on September 13th at 9am. Please note the time change for this year’s classes. There will be classes for younger children as well as the youth. Children’s class is for K-5th grades and youth class is for 6th-12 grades. If you are interested in teaching for either class, please let us know, we’re always looking for new volunteers!
Choir resumes singing on September 13th. New singers
are welcome and needed. Meet at 9am on September
13th for practice in the Fireside Room.
Join Pastor Harriet in the Fireside Room for Bible Study at 7:00pm Monday evenings, starting on September 14th.
Youth Group activities will get back in gear on September
20th with Life-size board game “Sorry” from 6pm to 7:30pm
in the Fellowship Hall. We need all parents to attend this
first Youth Group activity to join in the fun and fill out

We just wanted to thank our great church
for the camperships to attend Lazy F camp
this summer. We both feel closer to God
and have a better understanding of the
close presence of Jesus. We also enjoyed
fantastic food, river rafting, zip lines, lots of
singing and great friendships. Thank you
E.U.M.C. for helping make awesome
experience possible for us!

Greetings!
Welcome back to all those who have been traveling for the summer. For those who I have not met yet, I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you.

Please take a look at the calendar and articles in this newsletter about upcoming small group gatherings, Bible studies and community events.

November – On Monday evenings will be exploring sermon series will be looking at stories from the Book of Mark. The scripture will be listed on the same page with the “Servers and Scriptures” page of the monthly Newsletter.
You are welcome to purchase a book that adds in the study of books of James and Job. I will have also have handouts for each week with discussion questions.
Also, after each Worship service starting in September there will be Discussion Questions on the tables during the social time after Worship.
Youth Sunday Morning Gathering:
Every Sunday Morning, at 9 am in the Youth Room I will be leading the Youth Sunday Morning Gathering time. We will be discussing social issues and how the Bible stories apply to life today. We will be working on Youth Sunday Worship services that will be planned for at least 4 times this year. As well as other ways that the youth can and will be involved in the Worship service.
Stewardship:
In the coming weeks you will be receiving a Stewardship letter from me. As we know stewardship means that we will be requesting you to let the Finance committee know how much projected money will be coming in for the 2016 year so they can plan according with the 2016 budget. As we prepare for this time of Stewardship please be in prayer and seek God’s guidance as you discern in what ways God is calling you to be active in the life of the church through volunteering and financial giving.
Blessings to you. Pastor Harriet

“Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise” James 5:13
One of the most wonderful gifts we are given is the gift of prayer. We can pray for one another in times of need as well as times of celebration.
To join the phone prayer chain contact Dee Gray at 754-3218. To join the email prayer chain, email Sheryl at [email protected]

24th, at 5:30pm.
Everyone is welcome so
invite your friends,
family, and neighbors
for a fun and
fabulous meal!
Things to do and/ or reflect on for the month of September 2015:
1.] What do you look forward to doing in the fall? What is your favorite part about the fall? Write a poem, draw a picture, or create something that symbolizes what you like most about the fall season. I would love to see what you create.
2.] How do you live out your Faith in Action? Take time this month either every day or once a week - either write or draw how faith is in action in your life?
3.] Pray each day for the children, youth, young adults, and teachers as they are back in school. Pray for the young adults who are on college campus for the first time and those who are returning. Pray for safety. Pray for a good school year and for many blessings.
Pastor Harriet

THE ART OF EXTRAVAGANT WELCOME Love one Another Well
Ideas on Outreach and Hospitality From Church Consultant Mary Scifres “Love one another.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (Jesus in John 13:34-35)
Give time, attention, and care to one another and to all who enter your doors, and your community will grow in both health and size. Researchers spend a lot of time trying to determine why people move and why people stay in certain communities. Interestingly, almost 90% of Americans stay right where they are (geographically) from one year to the next. One key factor is simply that they have established strong ties to that community. Relationships matter! Churches are microcosms of our larger communities. A church built on strong rela-tionships can provide a strong and healthy foundation to its members, its guests, and the community it supports. When we reach out to one another in prayer, presence, time, and talent, we are creating the strong ties that bind us together through good times and bad. So, make that phone call this week to someone you’re missing. Send an email or a card to the person who just celebrated a birthday or a new job. Write a note to someone on the church prayer list. Walk over and hold the hand of someone who’s crying during worship. Introduce the guest sitting next to you to a couple old friends after worship. Take a cup of coffee to the busy Sunday School teacher. Offer a helping hand to the caregiver who’s helping a loved one negotiate the wheelchair through a crowded hall. Listen patiently to the friend who seems to be troubled, but can’t quite get the words out.
When we love one another well, we build a strong community of faith whose bonds of love will hold us together through thick and thin.
Two are better than one…. if they fall, one will lift up the other.
A threefold cord is not quickly broken. From Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

WILDFIRES, by Jim Truitt, UMVIM
The fires in Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan Counties continue to grow. They have now burned more
acreage than last year's Carlton Complex Fire. The towns of Conconully, Twisp, and Methow are under
a Level 3 evacuation.
Evacuees from the Chelan Complex fire to the south and the multiple fires to the north are converging
on Pateros and Brewster. There are about 150 campers, RVs and motor homes in the city park in
Pateros and the Red Cross has a shelter open in Brewster. The United Methodist have deployed six
pastors and lay people to the area to provide spiritual and emotional support for the evacuees and
responders.
The Pateros Community UMC has opened its doors around the clock for meals, sleeping
accommodations, safe and clean air, and a safe place to rest. They will provide 3 meals a day and they
are allowing pets because they are not allowed in the Red Cross shelter.
Unless you have a real reason to go into the area, please stay away. The air quality is unhealthy and
there are an unusually large number of people trying to find a safe place to stay.
Also, please do not attempt to donate "stuff". They do not need it and they do not have a means to
handle it. You are encouraged to make a financial donation as a large sum of money is going to be
needed for recovery.
You can make a donation to PNW Conference Treasurer with Advance #352 on the memo line. You can
mail your check to PNW Treasurer, PO Box 13650, Des Moines, WA 98198.
