Fraunhofer FOKUS OpenEPC Rel. 5– A comprehensive running testbedmirroring the operator networkThis is the final video before goingtowards 5G. In the last 5 years,Fraunhofer FOKUS has developed theOpenEPC toolkit, a softwareimplementation of the 3GPP EvolvedPacket Core, a comprehensive test-bedimplementation of 2G/3G/4G/WiFimobile networks and with more than 40research partners. The final OpenEPCvideo shows what can be achievedwhen answering pragmatically the R&Drequirements. OpenEPC licensing isnow offloaded to Core Network

OpenMTC for Smart Grid InformationSystem This demo shows how OpenMTC canbe used together with a smart meteringsolution to communicate energydemand and supply in a renewable,distributed energy consumption andproduction scenario. OpenMTCmonitors the energy production andconsumption in an arbitrary number ofbuildings at a certain area of a city,each connected through an OpenMTChome gateway component. The user

can zoom in on a particular buildingand discover the energy consumptionof individual appliances and having thepossibility to control them.

Success Story about NAUDIT usingthe FUSECO PlaygroundIn the context of the EuropeanFederation for FIRE project, Fed4FIRE(http://www.fed4fire.eu/), FraunhoferFOKUS provides its cutting edge EPC-based mobile broadband NGN testbed(www.fuseco-playground.org) toEuropean ICT-related SMEs. Formaturing its active mobile networkmonitoring tools, the Spanish SMENAUDIT (www.naudit.es) successfullyutilized the FUSECO Playground forconducting various Quality of Servicerelated tests in multiple mobilebroadband scenarios.

Prof. Jorge E. López de Vergara(founding partner of NAUDIT - atechnology-based startup) sums up hisexperiences made while utilizing theFUSECO Playground as follows: “TheFUSECO Playground represents aunique NGN testbed facility for testingapplications in a truly, state-of-the-artmobile broadband environment. Byusing the FUSECO Playground,including its versatile test managementtools, NAUDIT was able to conduct abroad range of crucial tests in variousaccess network scenarios (2G, 3G,4G/LTE) allowing us to harden ouractive network monitoring product andto speed up its market entry”.

Fraunhofer FOKUS OpenMTC teamwill participate at the ETSI M2MPlugtests in Sophia Antipolis, 10-12September 2014. We will test our latestOpenMTC Rel. 3 at this event forstandard compliant interworking withother solutions.

Fraunhofer FOKUS M2M team willpresent at the M2M Innovation Worldcongress (September 22 - 24, 2014)within the Strategies and Technologiestrack (September 23, 2014): "IOT-Ready Platforms & Connectivity:Towards a Global Approach". The mainfeatures of the OpenMTC Release 3will be introduced.
