Summer 2011: Outstanding Examination Results Bishop Perowne is among the top 25% of similar schools nationally

The headline figure shows that 65% of our students achieved at least 5 A* - C grades, including English and Mathematics and a range of academic subjects which are recognised and respected by employers and universities. Over 82% of our students achieved between 5 and 14 A* – C grades. These results belong to the students, parents and staff of the College. We are all very proud of our students’ success. We exceeded the challenging aspirational targets set by the Governors and the Local Authority. Our 11% improvement on our good results of 2010 mean that we are now placed within the top 25% of similar schools nationally. Students surpassed College targets in English, Mathematics and Science and placed us well above national and county averages for students achieving good grades in core academic subjects. Over two thirds of all students made at least three levels of progress in English, Mathematics and Science. One student achieved fourteen A* grades and scored 539 marks out of a possible 540 in English placing her at the top nationally. In addition over forty students achieved between six and twelve top grades in separate subjects. Year 11 were unswerving in their desire the achieve excellent results; they were diligent, showed perseverance and gave generous support to bring about the best for each other. Staff gave unstintingly of their time to create a culture of achievement in which students and their work are highly valued. This excellent news is shared by our local partners the King’s School, Worcester Sixth Form and Worcester College of Technology. Some of our students will benefit from bespoke Sixth Form bursaries provided by the King’s School for Bishop Perowne. We also celebrate outstanding results for Years 9 and 10 who were entered for Mathematics, English and some academic option subjects early. Over half of the students have already achieved C grade or above in English and Mathematics. Of particular note, is the achievement of Sophie Tothill, a Year 7 student who has achieved an A* in Mathematics. We wish to warmly congratulate all those who have achieved so highly and the students of King’s School, Worcester who also achieved excellent results at GCSE and Advanced Level.

We were delighted to receive the following letter from The Rt Revd Dr John Inge, Bishop of Worcester. I have just heard from the Diocesan Director of Education and your Chair of Governors of the outstanding GCSE results achieved by Bishop Perowne pupils. This letter comes to offer my heartfelt congratulations to you, your colleagues and the students themselves for this wonderful achievement about which I was delighted to learn. I hope that you will be kind enough to pass on these congratulations to all concerned.

Our next newsletter will be available on our website at the end of September. If you would prefer a paper copy, please contact reception.
