Cambridge Elementary PTA | [email protected] CAMBRIDGE PIRATE NEWS September 2011 What’s inside? All the important dates you’ll need to put on your calendar. Don’t miss out! Ahoy Cambridge Pirates HELLO CAMBRIDGE FAMILIES Welcome back to school! I hope that everyone is now finding themselves back into their own little comfortable school routine. My kids are finally realizing that it’s much easier to get up early in the mornings if they go to bed earlier at night. Well, I’m very excited this year to introduce several new PTA Family Fun events. We put a little bit of a different spin on some things this year in hopes that you will enjoy the change of pace. We’re starting off by holding a “Back to School Picnic” on Thursday, September 22 nd . We are also holding our first ever “Pirate Pumpkin Festival & Teacher Chili Cook-off” on Friday, October 21 st . Details of these events will come home as we get closer to the event, but please mark your calendars to attend as I know you will enjoy them! We also held the first ever Cambridge, Boo Hoo Yahoo Breakfast for all Kindergarten parents, the first morning of school and it went extremely well. I believe many of you took advantage of this support group, while hearing more about Cambridge Elementary and our PTA and enjoying coffee and donuts. Based on the positive feedback, we will plan to offer this next year as well. Issue No. One LIFE’S PRETTY GOOD. WHY WOULDN’T IT BE? WE’RE ALL PIRATES! Lastly, I hope you all enjoyed shopping from our new fundraiser catalog. We really thought that the variety of options to choose from were sure to encourage everyone to find something for themselves or gifts for others. As always, PTA is always striving to improve in all areas and will be happy to hear any comments or suggestions that you have, so please feel free to email me at [email protected] Thank you for your support and I look forward to a superb 2011-2012 school year! Dear Parents and Families:

Reading is the most important skill you can teach a child. Of all the skills children learn, it is the one you can influence the most.

We invite you to visit our Scholastic Book Fair and experience a celebration of reading that provides families the opportunity to get involved in a universal mission: encouraging kids to read every day so they can lead better lives.

Our Scholastic Book Fair theme – To the Book Fair and Beyond! – is part of an out-of-this-world reading event that brings to school a wonderful selection of fun, engaging, and affordable books kids want to read. Giving kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose their own books will motivate them to read more. And like most acquired skills, the more kids practice reading, the better they’ll get.

Cambridge will host the Book Fair from Monday, September 19 – Friday September 23 from 8:30 to 4:00. We will celebrate all of our Out of This World Readers with dress-up days, prize give-aways and drawings.

Our dress-up days are as follows: Moonwalk Monday: Wear your favorite PJ’s. Spacey Sock Tuesdays: Knock our socks off with goofy footwear.Alien Hair Day (Wednesday): Go wild with crazy hair (spikes and crazy pony tails)! No hats, please.Space Day (Thursday): Dress like you’re from outer space and wear your craziest mismatched outfit.Out of This World Spirit Day (Friday): Show your Pirate spirit in purple and gold!

Friday, September 23rd will be a busy day for students and families at Cambridge Elementary. Friday is the final day of “To the Book Fair and Beyond” and students are encouraged to show their Belton school spirit and wear their favorite Out of This World Pirate Wear. In the morning, we will celebrate our “Grandfriends” from 8 to 10:15am in the cafeteria. Grandfriends will have the chance to see their students’ classrooms and enjoy coffee and donuts.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome! This year Cambridge Elementary will be collecting Box Top coupons to raise money for our school. Did you know that some local schools raise thousands of dollars for their schools each year, just from clipping and submitting Box Tops?

Box Top coupons are on the packaging of hundreds of participating products that you probably use every day. All you need to do is cut them off of the box they are on, stick them in a baggie, and send them to school with your child. Or if you like you can attach your Box Tops to these handy collection sheets with glue or double stick tape. The classroom that collects the most box tops by the end of October will win a prize, so be sure to include your childʼs teacherʼs name with the box tops you turn in.

We will be collecting Box Tops all year long, but our first submission deadline is at the end of October, so start saving and sending in your Box Tops today!
