A Message From Fr. Mateus
Dear brothers and sisters, the parable narrated by today's Gospel, in which the landowner grants the same reward to the laborers who worked since the beginning of the day and those who arrived later, offers an oppor-tunity to reflect on one of the six sins of the Holy Spirit, in accordance with the tradi on of the Church and the teaching of St. Thomas Aquinas: the envy of fraternal grace.
This sin is the nega ve reac on to the good of others: the prosperity of others, instead of bringing joy and sa sfac on, causes sadness and bi erness to the envious heart. Such genuinely diabolical logic
only gains space, however, in those who fail to take into account the great spiritual building of which we are all part as members of the one Mys cal Body of Christ.
Within this communion that touches heaven and earth, in fact, people are no longer individuals separated from each other and the blessing bestowed on one always results in the benefit of another. For example, The graces that the saints of God receive are an occasion for gain for all the parts that make up the Church, even the most humble and miserable! So envy is just a great spiritual blindness.
Faced with the laborer who received the same reward from Heaven, even though having achieved this grace at dusk of his life, it is necessary that we rejoice, therefore, with the infinite mercy of God, who absolutely does not want anyone to be lost, but desires that "all may be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth "(1Tm 2, 4).
God bless you!
Fr. Mateus

From Father José… My dear brothers and sisters, I hope and pray that you and your loved ones are doing well in the midst of this pandemic and all its side effects. To our children attending school in person or at home, many blessings in this new year! As you know from the end of last year it will be odd, so be creative in making it an awesome learning experience. Please, even if you get tired of all the virtual work, do not give up. To our parishioners who are homebound, be assured of our prayers and support. Keep us posted of any health developments.
It is time to give you the latest development of our status in regards to the naming of a new pastor for St. Cecilia. Last Friday I received a request from Bishop McManus asking me to remain as administrator until next June, which I started at the end of this June. What is an parish administrator? As you might remember from Fr. Richard Roger who became adminis-trator after Msgr. Goguen, the administrator has the responsibilities of a Pastor but for a shorter time. Knowing now that it is for a longer period, it is time for me then to reach out more to all of you. To those attending Mass on Sunday, I look forward to seeing you before or after Mass, will see you at the Flea Market, but also will be reaching out to the different committees to meet in order to address the overall pastoral and physical needs. Fr. Mateus is responsible of the everyday pastoral needs. Talking about physical needs, I am already reaching out to a mixture of trades to figure out what exactly can be done short and long term to deal with the inside of the church plaster and paint. I can go on writing, but I just wanted to close with a personal note. For the last 25 years of my life I have served God and His people as a priest. I love what I do and right now God has blessed me with the privilege of serving you. Pray for me, pray for Fr. Mateus as we share this journey of faith with you. To reach me directly and privately, this is my email: [email protected] For calls, either St Cecilia 978-537-6541 or Holy Family 978-537-3016
May God bless you! Be safe & be holy! In Christ, FFr. José

Responding to Recent Natural Disasters In solidarity with our brothers in sisters who are struggling to recover from natural disasters in Louisiana and California, Bishop McManus along with his brother Bishops are asking Catholics around the country to donate to the Bishops’ Emergency Disaster Fund which funds relief efforts led by Catholic Charities USA and Catholic Relief Services. If you would like to make a donation to help those impacted by recent disasters including Hurricane Laura and the California wildfires, please visit worcesterdiocese.org for more information on where to send a check or to make an online contribution. Please keep all the families who have lost everything as a result of these disasters in your prayers.
My brothers and sisters in Christ, I wish to express my gratitude to the parishioners of St. Cecilia Parish for their generosity to the Annual Partners in Charity Appeal. As you know, your parish has exceeded its goal. In light of this important accomplishment, I offer my deepest appreciation. This year, our theme for the Partners in Charity 2020 appeal is Envision Faith in Action. As we plan to provide for the needs of thousands of people in the Diocese of Worcester in the year ahead, we are reminded that charity is the very heart of the Christian Life. Your support of 26 charitable, education-al, and pastoral programs is an excellent witness of your own Christian generosity. I cannot image what it would have been like thse past few months if these agencies and ministries had not been able to respond to so many needy people. Unfortunately this crisis isn’t over. Please be assured on my prayers for your health and safety and that of all your loved ones during these challenging months to come. With every prayerful best wish, I remain Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. McManus Bishop of Worcester
