Our annual Craft Fair is rapidly ap-proaching! This is a fundraiser that is very important to our church communi-ty. This year the proceeds will go toward

Craft Fair–September 22 and 23!

Moments from the Past Sunday…

It’s great to hear the choir back! Playing under the supper table.

We are excited to announce that our after service coffee cart is now serv-ing Equal Exchange organic and fairly traded coffee. Not only is this a tastier cup of joe, it’s also a way to express our values while enjoying coffee together. After service, grab a cup and help

yourself to a piece of organic and fairly traded Equal Exchange chocolate (while supplies last). Why Equal Exchange? It’s better for our planet:• The hardworking farmers who grow

our products care for their land.

• Shade farm-ing preserves forest cover and protects the habitats of birds and other wildlife.

Relying on the spirit and story of the Gospels, First Christian Church is supported primarily by donations. There is no charge for any event. We rely on freely given offerings to support our various minis-tries and opportunities.

Your contributions and gifts allow us to continue to be a radically inclusive, justice-driven community of faith every day of the week. Thank you in advance for your gifts.

Matt’s Minute

Thank You from KarenThank you to everyone for your notes, cards, visits, flowers and most of all for all your kind wishes and prayers. It is truly a great blessing to have loving support from such a wonderful family! I am progressing and expect to be going home soon! Much love, Karen

It happens every single year. No mat-ter how much I resist, it happens. No matter how much I deny its existence and try and run away, it still happens. School. The beginning of another school year is here and no one in my house is ready, especially me. I have enjoyed late summer nights, sleep-ing in until 6:30, weekend trips to the coast, and the relaxed rhythm of family life. Once again, I am getting up early, making school lunches, arguing with people about getting out the door on time, helping with homework and reminding people to breathe through the stresses of school. The truth is, we have it pretty easy. Al-though I lament, the rhythm will work itself out by October. We have the resources to do all that we need, to buy the new clothes and replace worn out backpacks. We have a great support system that helps us transport to and from school. We have great teachers who work with us in the good and the bad. We have a roof over our heads, a washer and dryer in the garage and a shower that always works. This is why we are motivated to con-tribute where we can to help families in need. Not everyone can afford new school clothes, new backpacks and the

long list of school supplies required for each student. This is why I hope you will join me in our Back to School Supply Drive. You can donate from the list below or give money in the offering plate and I will go by the items. Please bring your donations this Sunday. Let’s fill up the front of the sanctuary with school supplies! Thank you in advance.Peace, Matt

• Diversified crop planting promotes biodiversity and improves the health of the soil.

• Most Equal Exchange products are certified organic and produced with-out the use of toxic and persistent pesticides.

It’s better for farmers:• The small-scale

farmers who grow Equal Ex-change coffee, tea and choco-late control their own businesses, on land they own.

• Working together gives farmer cooperatives access to support and training.

• Fair trade and organic premiums allow them to invest in education, health programs and social services for their communities.

It’s better for your family and friends:• EE’s direct and

longstanding relationships mean we can source the best-quality coffee, tea, chocolate and foods.

• We use simple ingredients you can feel good about.

• Our low wholesale prices and friend-ly customer service make it easy to bring these delicious products to your community.
