Information about sensory circuitsA sensory circuit is a short sensory program that helps improve brain processing efficiency

Sensory Circuits play an important role in learning and development in motor skills

We will have 3 sensory circuits to incorporate fitness, sensory exploration, and game skills

Technology will not be a part of our sensory circuits. We are asking to unplug during this time from technology!

Sensory circuits are

FUN!!

Modeling and supervisionMODELING is essential in sensory circuits.

Without modeling, our students could have difficulties in completing activities and the potential to get hurt or something breaking can increase.Show them exactly what is expected of them!

SUPERVISIONWithout proper supervision, students have the potential to get hurt or break something. It is IMPERATIVE that you follow task analyses and help students in EVERY room!

PLEASE pay extra attention when using any exercise equipment! There is an extra risk for our students with these activities

Being present and POSITIVE REINFORCEMENTBEING PRESENT

It is the job of the technicians and team leaders to fully engage the student in activities! Is your student looking at what they are doing? Staying engaged? Make sure that the student is motivated and focused! Your student can tell when you are paying attention and when you are not.

POSITIVE REINFORCEMENTOur kids respond to high fives, verbal praise, and attention to keep them motivated and reinforced for positive behaviors! USE SPECIFIC PRAISE! (e.g., Great job using a complete sentence!) Praise appropriate behaviors no matter how small!

Review of JIT Rules● Always watch your student in the bathroom.

● Never leave your student alone - especially the ones with seizures

● Focus on your student, not other technicians

● Prepare by reading the student’s social stories and treatment plans; know about token boards, visual schedules

● Give time to your student to comprehend

● Don’t do everything for your student – wait before increasing your prompts. We want to foster independence NOT dependency.

● SAFETY always comes FIRST!

Page 6: Sensory Circuits unplugged! · 2020. 5. 26. · Sensory Exploration You will find a purple, red, and orange circle around the table. Sensory exploration gives them a calming activity

● Your student’s need lots of praise, love, trust, and respect!
