WHAT TO WEARRemember, we’re photographing you, not your outfit. since you’ll be looking at these photographs for the rest of your life, you’ll want to keep a few things in mind when selecting your clothing:

Your Yearbook Portrait Guys– Most guys wear a suit and tie for the yearbook portrait. If you dress from head to toe, with the pants and shoes, we can also take some waist up and full length photographs. (We promise, it’s painless.)

Girls– A solid color top with at least a three quarter sleeve works best. Patterns, checks and stripes can be distracting for a formal portrait. The drape (we have here at our studio), is a black v-neck that wraps around the shoulders and velcros in the back. Most girls wear a cami underneath. We also have pearls as part of our studio wardrobe if you wish to have the classic drape and pearl look for the yearbook.

Variety is Important If one of your outfits is light colored, bring another that is dark. If one is more dressy, bring another that’s casual. If one is short-sleeved or sleeveless, bring another that’s long-sleeved. If you’re wearing shorts with one outfit, make sure you have long pants for another. Feel free to bring clothes with patterns and bold colors for your fun, casual shots. Outfit variety helps make your portraits more interesting!

Avoid Strong Contrast Between Pants and Shirt If you have a dark shirt or sweater, wear dark pants or jeans with it. If you have a light top, keep the pants light, too. This serves to keep the attention to your expression, not what you’re wearing.

What Colors Work Best Just about any color photographs well if the above guidelines are followed. If you’re not sure about how a particular outfit will look, bring it along and we will help you with the final selections– did we mention we are fashionistas also?!

WHAT TO BRINGBring More Outfits Than You Need If you can’t decide what to wear, bring a bunch of stuff and we’ll help you pick the outfits that will flatter you most.

Wear Your First Outfit To The Studio Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get here– you won’t want to be rushed. By wearing your first outfit to the studio, we can get started on your session right away. Most seniors prefer to start with the yearbook photo, but any outfit is fine. Be prepared to be a ‘quick change artist’ in the dressing room between outfits– the faster you change, the more time there will be for you to get more creative portraits.

Have Someone Come To Help And Watch Feel free to bring a parent, friend or sibling along so they can help you with your clothing and hair (and to make you feel more comfortable and relaxed). Since there is only seating for two others in the camera room, any more than two guests will be asked to remain in the waiting room during your session.

Pets You are more than welcome to bring your dog, cat, bird or other exotic animal. For your dog, bring a bowl for water and some treats to help in getting its attention. For larger dogs, you may want to have someone available to take the dog home after that part of your session is over. Letting us know ahead of time that you are bringing an animal will help us with our scheduling.

WHAT ABOUT...Makeup For The Girls If you wear makeup, you’ll want to have some in your portraits. remember that a little goes a long way, so don’t overdo it. Pay special attention to your eyes and lips, as they will be the first things people will see in your portraits. If you don’t use colored lipstick, try some clear lip gloss to give your lips a little shine and to keep them from looking dry and cracked.

Also– if you plan on wearing a top or dress with thin straps or no straps, be sure to bring a strapless bra. Extra straps can be very unsightly in your portraits, and are expensive to remove. Don’t forget!

Suntan It’s very important that you avoid spending too much time in the sun or the tanning booth just before your session. We can easily make you look more tanned in your portraits, but it’s almost impossible to fix a sunburned or peeling face. Tan lines from swimsuits or tank tops can be corrected, but we strongly suggest that you “under-do” your sun exposure prior to your session, rather than overdoing it.

Braces If you wear braces right now, they’re as much a part of you as your hairstyle or the clothes you wear. Don’t be self-conscious about smiling! If you don’t like your braces in your portraits, they can be removed digitally for $40 per pose. If you aren’t sure of what to do, don’t hesitate to talk to us before you begin your session. Please note: if your braces are scheduled to come off after your yearbook deadline, you may come in for your yearbook portrait and then come back for the rest of your outfits at a later date. And the best part– there’s no charge for this service!

Retouching As part of our service, each one of the poses you have made into finished portraits will get a complete blemish retouching at no extra charge. To make the retouching less obvious, we suggest that guys and girls use a little cover-up makeup on any problem areas. Our retouchers are the best in the industry, (we’re allowed to brag), and will endeavor to give your portraits a smooth, natural complexion. Be sure to ask in advance if you have any questions about this at all.

WHAT ABOUT...Miscellanous Important Stuff Feel free to bring a favorite hat or other clothing item to include in a few of your portraits (to avoid “hat hair,” we’ll do those poses last). Sunglasses, piercings and other jewelry, watches, bracelets are all fine if you feel they are a part of your personality. (Note– your parents may not share the same view about these items, so be prepared to take some photos without them, if it makes them happy.)

Parents Most seniors bring one or both parents with them to their session. Since at least some of your portraits are for them and other family members, we welcome them and encourage them to sit in on the session and watch – especially if they will be paying for them.

You will be having a lot of different poses taken, so it’s ok to do a few “mom & dad” shots for them. Chances are, when they graduated they didn’t get all the variety of looks that you will. So you and your parents will appreciate that you can have poses made in styles that each of you will like.

At M&M Photography, we want both you and your parents to love your photographs, even if they’re not the same poses.

Rain Your regular studio session will take place as scheduled. however, if you have scheduled the In ‘N Out, Out ‘N About or Studio Outdoors session, but it looks like rain, don’t panic! Summer showers often come and go quickly; it might be raining where you are, but sunny here. If you are meeting us in the park or on location and the weather seems to be a problem, we will call you to reschedule your session. If you don’t hear from us just before your session assume that your appointment is on.

Bringing Your Car For Your Pictures Our back parking area works great for photographs with your car. Your car doesn’t have to be spotless to look good! Do clean the tires as they will show in the photographs. A Studio Outdoor add-on or In ‘N Out session must be scheduled.

DETAILSChanging A Session If you change your mind about your session choice, it is often possible to exchange it for another. However, keep in mind that it is harder to add another session once your appointment has been made. If you need to make a change, it is important to call right away. We will try to accommodate you, but it may be necessary to move your appointment to another date.

Money Since your session fee and $100 deposit were prepaid to reserve your appointment time, you do not need to bring any money to your session.

Reminder– if you are paying for your session by check, it must be received within three business days after calling. Due to the high demand for session times, if your check is not received within three days, your time may be given to someone else.

Finished Products At the time of your session, an appointment will be made for you to return to view your images. At that time, you will go home with a printed preview booklet of your images along with the ordering options and pricing information. Your $100 deposit must be paid to take the preview booklet and price guide home.

Another appointment will be made to return your preview booklet and place your order within seven days.
