Presidents Report

Umbrellas and raincoats seemed to be new additions to regular cricket gear during the 2011-12 season, yet the all the players and coaches certainly did themselves proud and the club in the skills they were learning and the sportsmanship they showed throughout the season. Bligh Park Cricket Club continues to perform strongly in all age groups both seniors and juniors. This 2011-12 season the club fielded 9 junior teams up from 6 and 4 senior teams so a big thankyou to all the coaches who offered their services at the beginning of the season. Our junior teams gave 100% all season resulting in all the teams fighting to make the semi-finals. Rain hampered a number of the teams run to the semis and then the final with all the semi-finals being washed out. Two teams made the Finals, the Under 12 A’s and the Under 14B’s both played hard but missing out on the day. We had 2 mighty under 10’s teams - although they do not play semis both performed very well and showing vast improvement under their coaches guidance. The Club fielded 4 senior teams and were all very competitive with the 5th grade becoming premiers with a very comfortable win in the final during a hard fought year. The young 2nd grade side with a few older heads finished the season in 2nd place and were knocked out in the semis by the eventual winners. 4Th Grade had many positive days but getting the same team on the field and the weather, did not help their run to the semis and just missed out. The 6th grade team were always in the hunt for the semis and had good positive year, but dipped out in the semis with a very close semi-final loss. Thank you very much to all the players, the juniors who supported the senior sides, in fact we had approx. 20 juniors or players from last year’s 16’s support the senior teams which is a great opportunity for themselves and the club. The job of captain of the senior teams can be very difficult trying to organise teams every match and keeping things moving the right direction, I thank you for your time and effort it is greatly appreciated. In the last month the BPCC has gained a Major sponsor - Windsor Leagues Club who has joined the very important current group of sponsors who have been supporting us for a number of years a thank you to those. Congratulations to all for a wonderful season. On behalf of the club, I would like to thank the coaches for their time and effort in working with the juniors this year. We have a great group of coaches whose help and dedication is greatly appreciated by the players, parents and the committee. The club and I would like to thank all involved for your time and effort into making this an enjoyable and successful season including the team mangers, scorers both very important positions. I would also especially like to thank the Bligh Park Cricket Club committee for all your hard work, support and drive to continue the clubs success both on and off the field. To the players and the families a special thanks for supporting the Bligh Park Cricket Club, I hope to see you all back next season. Steve Winters President Bligh Park Cricket Club

Award CriteriaBligh Park Cricket Club awards players for averages and point score in accordance with the Hawkesbury District Cricket Association (HDCA) rules, which is:(a) Any player who plays in a higher grade for his/her club, will be eligible to incorporate those averages in the grade where he/she is graded at the conclusion of the competition. No figures may be incorporated from a lower grade.(b) Batting average - a player must have at least the same number of innings as there are opposing teams in that grade and score not less than two hundred and fifty (250) runs in allmatches.(c) Bowling average - a player must procure at least twenty (20) wickets in all matches.

Where a team has no players eligible for an award, the bowler with the most wickets or batsman with the most runs becomes eligible for the award.

StatisticsWhile we Endeavour to ensure the accuracy of the information in this year book, the quality of what goes into your scorebooks reflects the quality of your season's final statistics. As often has it, scores are recorded by the opposition or players who are not necessarily skilled scorers, so it's important that you regularly review that your statistics are correct and complete throughout the season.

Life and 10 Year MembersLife Membership is the highest form of personal recognition for any member (player, coach, committee or other volunteer) who has contributed significantly to Bligh Park Cricket Club above normal means. To be eligible for nomination for Life Membership of the Club a person must have demonstrated that he or she has actively assisted the Club in achieving its objectives over a period of time prior to his or her nomination for Life Membership.10 Year Members are those who have contributed or played 10 consecutive season either solely for Bligh Park Cricket Club or a combination of 10 consecutive years of only Bligh Park Cricket Club and Representative Cricket. 2nd GRADE – SEASON 2011-12 TEAM REPORT With a very young second grade side, it was a slow start to the year, but we put together some good wins with some great bowling performances from Jarred Coull, Brendan Sweeney, Glen Corcoran, Heath Lane (with a Hat-trick !), Ben Mitchell and Kris Anderson. Unfortunately we lost Kris Anderson half-way through the year as he entered the workforce. Jarred Coull also found himself a job, so we tried a new spin bowler in Chris Smith, who handled himself well with some good figures. Dave Adam was the pick of the spin bowlers nearly knocking off Glen Corcoran for most wickets, which is never an easy feat. Dave also held the tail end batting together with timely not-outs on several occasions. The ever reliable Dan and Jacob Magner did their best with the bat, but our batting was letting us down. So we called on an older head in John Bremner and the not so old Joel Tynan, which strengthened our batting order. I would like to take this opportunity to thanks these guys and hope they can play a full year next season. I would also like to mention that we used a very young keeper in Adam Worsley who handled the keeping and batting very well, at times looking very good with the bat and the gloves. I would also like to say sorry for losing so many tosses during the year, but most of all in the semi where I feel we had a good chance of going to the grand final. With such a young side in second grade, it was still a great achievement. See you all next year ! Jason Stubbs Captain - 2nd Grade

4th GRADE – SEASON 2011-12 TEAM REPORT Thanks for another great year guys, but I think everyone in our team would agree it was a very disappointing season by our standards. Most of the time it was out of our hands, but when we did get together as a team we had a ball like always. I think every time we went out on to the park we busted a gut but we just didn't click this year. Normally we can bet on one or two of us firing but not this year with only glimpses of good batting. Danny had a few good digs and Clev was outstanding against Rivo in round 7. Charley was also on fire there for a while, but it was only ever one of us never two, so we made it very hard on ourselves. Our most consistent batsman Lukey dogged us half way through the year for all things, would you believe it, a career - GOOD LUCK LUKEY. Our ever consistent Scott showed he’s still got it with the willow but just couldn't get a start this year. Maybe the teacher needs to take some lessons from the student in Luke (ha-ha). Fielding was outstanding. How good was the big marrrn! Josh took some screamers in close and I recon he still has a bruise from one that got him in the gut. We never ever expect anything else but the best behind the stumps and big Ryno didn’t disappoint. Sometimes I just shake my head and think how does the big unit move around like that? Great keeping Ryno! We didn’t get to see much of Matty this year but when he was there he bowled with what I would call “Potion Cranky Big Bastard”. We had a new face in the team this year in Criss Cruze. It took Criss a little time to come out of his shell, but when he did he proved to be a $#@!head just like the rest of us. And he can bowl, taking some great wickets when we really needed them. We had a lot of help this year with guys filling in for us. We had Joshua, Adam, Daniel, Ayden, and the Lloyds as well as the ever consistent Coully who played more games than most of us. Thanks Coully. Now you might be thinking I have forgotten someone. Well this next guy is the biggest part of our team in my opinion. He turns up every week, fields his heart out, bowls like a demon and never gives up. Brad Ryan or Binga as we call him is what cricket is all about. He never gives up, is always looking for a wicket and takes out good batsman (like the opener for Pitt Town). He tried to stare Binga down and Binga just said “Good onya,” and then cleaned his middle stump up. Man that was funny! I hope I get to go around with Brad on the cricket field for a few more years before us old fellas are too fat, too slow or just too lazy (shut up Coully…) Finally, I’d like to make a special mention of Kim Rogan. Kim is our twelfth team member, always there to help out. All us guys appreciate the time and effort she puts in every year - Thank you Kim! Anyway, let’s give next year a big shake and get a cap. I really hope everybody's keen for another go. Thanks for a good year guys, it’s been a pleasure. Shane Stephenson Captain – 4th Grade

5th GRADE – SEASON 2011-12 TEAM REPORT We started this season with the goal of taking some emerging juniors in the club and adding them together with some more seasoned campaigners. The idea was to give these younger players a little guidance and help them get a better understanding of what senior club cricket is all about. We didn’t purposely intend to make it a father and son team, but we did have 4 ‘cricket families’ making up the playing squad. The season culminated in one of the most clinical executions of a premiership final that I have ever been a part of. Something everyone who played for us this season should be proud of. Even with the rubbish weather, there were great times and everyone managed to feature in the highlights reel at some point; The “young ones”..... Jarod Brett (U/15) scored a 22 not out against Freemans Reach in round 11 and stepped up to take over the wicket keeping duties after Justin’s departure. Jarod’s other highlight would be beating his Dad’s point score, but I’d say that it was a contest that ended a little too close for Jarod’s liking this season. Rowan Lloyd (U/15) came good just when it was needed during the final series. He showed tremendous patience in the semi-final. Playing in what could only be described as a swamp, he nearly batted through the innings for 23. Rowan then pushed it to another level against Pitt Town Sports scoring 90 in the final. If he didn’t follow the instructions to hit out he most likely would have scored a century. This showed what a great team player he truly is. Rowan also helped out by playing for higher grade teams when they were short – a great clubman. Aidan Peek (U/14) stuck his hand up to play a few games with us during the Christmas / New Year break and would have played more if the weather hadn’t of stopped us getting on the park at the back end of the season. Aidan was a revelation. Being able to genuinely move the ball both ways at such a young age meant he was difficult for opposition players to get away. He took a 3/16 against Freemans Reach, but also looked more than competent with the bat scoring a 21 not out in the same match. Levi Tynan (U/16) had an outstanding season for both 5th grade and his U/16 side. We all hope he manages to achieve it again, but surely being able to score 106 and then take 5/4 on the same day to get us an outright win over Freemans Reach is something special. You just don’t get that sort of opportunity too often! His 6/19 vs Nth Richmond in the semi-final will also be remembered. The ball was water logged, but Levi still managed to fire in swinging yorkers, bowling 3 victims and trapping another LBW. The “not as young”….. Josh Dickie never stopped backing himself and I was forever telling him to wait for his turn with the bat and ball. He took a marvellous 5/1, cleaning up Pitt Town Sports, but the highlight for me was his unbeaten 8th wicket partnership with Peter ‘ Wheels’ Brett against Nth Richmond where he scored 21 runs. It was great to see Josh batting with some thought and control, something he discovered in himself as the season progressed.

Nick Edwards was dynamic in the few games we managed to get him to play between work and AFL. He didn’t miss anything in the field (on the ground or in the air) and as a result, everybody stepped up their game when he was around. Nick put together a fine 41 against Wilberforce in what was his first hit out for over 9 months. Justin Logue was working his way into things before Christmas with a great innings of 45 against Glossodia and 11 catches behind the stumps (4 against Freemans Reach in one game!). Unfortunately for us (fortunately for him!) after Christmas he heard the calling of the ‘Force’ and Justin headed south for his training. Tim Silk was magic with the ball and as a result was asked to bowl more than his fair share of overs. Most games were highlights for Tim, passing the bat with well-placed outswingers and bowling plenty of maidens. His bowling results belie the fact that most top order opponents just couldn’t get their bat close enough to even catch an edge. The ‘Albatross’ excelled in the field with some stellar catches and he scored a 51 against Nth Richmond in round 10 when everyone else was looking a little shaky. Lachlan Wassall joined us after starting the season in 2nd grade. Lach took 4/22 in the final, but his best effort was in the semi-final where he bowled 16 overs off only a couple of steps due to the atrocious conditions to take 3/11. I’m sure he would have enjoyed the two six’s he bombed against Wilberforce (24) as well. Luke Winters had a solid year and probably should have bowled more overs, but everyone knows ‘Captain Cranky’ has an aversion to spin bowlers (and we had so many bowlers to choose from). He took top order wickets in his 4/27 against Freemans Reach in their first innings to put us on track for an outright win. Luke also compiled a positive 21 against Nth Richmond in the semi- final at a point where we were falling into a bit of a hole. His 6 in was the only boundary we scored and his timely innings definitely hurt the opposition. And the “old enough to know better”..... Marty Crew was another who came good when it mattered in the final against Pitt Town Sports. His 71 took the game away from the opposition and earned him the Bradman Medal. He won’t see it as a highlight, but his 14 ball over against Wilberforce is something we’ll all remind him of whenever he steps up to the bowling crease in the future. Peter Brett, David Lloyd, Steve Winters and myself will all see our highlight as having the opportunity to play with not just our own kids, but a great bunch of youngsters who did listen when they had to and only caused us minor frustration at times (OK – more times than we thought necessary!). Pete (28 not out) and Lloydie (67) shared a 73 run last wicket partnership against Nth Richmond in round 5. Pete also shared in a winning partnership with Josh against Nth Richmond in round 10. Steve showed his class with an 81 no out against Freemans Reach in round 6 and was a great help with the captaincy especially when I was bowling (yes, I can only do one thing at a time!) Thanks to Michael Zahra, Don Tynan, Alex Clarke, Cooper and Josh Kwok who all helped out during the season. All are capable junior players who I’m looking forward to seeing more often in senior cricket next season. There was also a nice cameo by Dave Flood as well. I hope to see him and everyone else on the park more next season. David Wassall Captain - 5th Grade

6th GRADE – SEASON 2011-12 TEAM REPORT This year I had the honour of captaining a great bunch of guys in 6th grade. We did not win the competition but we had a hell of lot of fun trying to do so. We did not have anyone score a hundred but 2 guys got very close with Craig scoring 87 against Freeman’s reach and Tom scoring 92 against RAAF. Both of these innings were really good to watch as both dominated and both finished not out. I myself had a solid year with the bat without really being able to kick on and get that big score as so did Harley. But what Harley did this year was that he built innings and batted for a really long time developing himself into a good number 3 batsman. Our retiree Monty Burns who must be the unluckiest batsman I have ever played with as he just keeps finding new ways to get out. One innings that brought a great smile to my face was that of 61 by Robert who really torn Freeman’s reach apart with a mass of boundaries that won us the game. A batsman who I just wish I could get to the games on time was David as each game he was 1 hour, 1half hours late. Because when he got there he had to bat down the order and so he finished the season with a lot of not outs. If we were to give away an iron man award it would have gone to Jeff who just bowled and bowled without any real reward. He must have been the most unlucky bowlers in the world because he had that many near misses each game that he should have finished the season with 50 wickets. Jeff became a reliable asset that I could call upon to slow things down. Jeff must have bowled 30 maidens for us this year and one game that sticks in my memory was against Schofields where he bowled 13 overs 9 maidens 3 for 3 a real bowling machine and if I could catch he would have had 4 for 3. This year Ethan really developed his bowling and it all came together for him in the semi-final where he got his best bowling figures. Alex also bowled well for us this year and put together some good scores. To all our other members this year thank you for all your effort and I hope you come back again next season.
