Outline
The project entitled “ CSIR Knowledge Gateway & Open Source PrivatCloud Infrastructure (KNOWGATE) “ under Information Sciences Clusteof National Laboratories Scheme of CSIR during 12th Five Year Plan wita project outlay of Rs. 1159.17 lakh was approved by CSIR HQ on 7th Jan2013 with the following objectives:• To enhance the capacity and capability of CSIR computing power throughCSIR private cloud infrastructure and Open Source Software TechnologSolution Cell (OSSTSC)
• To provide CSIR KRCs an Integrated Library Management Solutionusing open source Software
• To share information resources among CSIR laboratories by creating CSIRDistributed Library: catalogue sharing, inter library loans, & referral servicfor document supply service.
• To analyse CSIR research, technology and related data using multidimensional analysis

CSIR Union Catalogue
Koha was created in 1999 by Katipo Communications for the Horowhenua Library Trust inNew Zealand, and the first installation went live in January 2000.
It is designed to manage physical collections of items (books, CD's, videos, reference,etc.).
Koha is web-based ILS, with a SQL database backend with cataloguing data stored inMARC and accessible via Z39.50. The user interface is very configurable andadaptable and has been translated into many languages.
Koha Features: A full featured modern integrated library system (ILS). Linux, Unix, Windows and MacOS platform. Web Based. We can full integrate it into your website. Full MARC21 and UNIMARC support for professional cataloguing. Use as a document manager or digital library.

Koha and its Features
Manage online and off line resources with the same tool.
E-mail and/or txt patron's over dues massage and other notices.
Print your own barcodes.
Full catalog, circulation and acquisitions system for library stock management.
Web based OPAC system (allows the public to search the catalog in the library and at home).
Simple, clear search interface for all users
Multilingual and multi-user support
Export and import records, ISO2709
The data were collected from CSIR-NISCAIR websites, Knowgate taskforce meeting minutesand accessed individually the status of Koha availability of each CSIR institute KRCs, thenumber of collection they held and quality of links of Webopac sites were recorded.
Objectives of the present paper:
The objectives of this study are given below:
The primary objective of the study to examine the current status of implementation of
Koha in all CSIR laboratories spread over in India,
To know about the module level of implementation.
Data Collection & Objective of the Study
CSIR KRCs have been divided into four groups by the Principle Investigator of Knowgate Project fo
the implementation of Koha and other two Modules viz. CSIR Private Cloud and CSIRTrend in a
CSIR laboratories KRCs. The below table depicts that the group number, duration of th
implementation of Koha and the name of the CSIR laboratories
Group of CSIR Labs for Implementing of Koha
Data Migration Status of Participating Laboratories
24 KRCs out of 39 - LIBSYS
15,92,586 Records Migrated
Most of the modules of Koha have been activated in all CSIR Labs.Apart from this, some CSIR labs have been also configured RFID Technology.
The findings of the study are given below:
It is found that Libsys was the most preferable ILMS by the CSIR labs beforeimplementation of Koha OSS.
It is found that almost CSIR KRCs have been adopted Koha OSS for theicomputerized library housekeeping activities.
The study found that 15, 92,586 records have been migrated into Koha from various
ILMS.
It is found that Circulation, Catalogue and Web OPAC, Serial Control modules are
functioning properly in all CSIR KRCS
It is also found that almost CSIR KRCs Web OPAC have been customized as per thei
needs.
It is also found that NISCAIR has developed CSIR Virtual Union catalogue and
available through KNOWGATE website. It is a single point entity that provides
metadata of CSIR KRCs holdings.
It may be concluded that Koha is a very powerful OSS for academic and research
libraries. Koha have been fully functional in all CSIR Labs of KRC and Web OPAC
available for access to world wide communities to find out the resources
