Senior Infants Work Plan April 27 th – May 01 st Dear Parents, I hope that school at home is going well for you all. The most important thing is for children to be enjoying and engaging in activities. With that in mind I have set some work looking back over work we have all done before. The work is set out over the whole week. Please do as much as your child is comfortable with. Please also tell them that Miss Price hopes they will enjoy remembering out lovely Spring walk around school and are happy to tell you all about it. I have set some “challenges” if your child would like to try to do some extra work. All the work is on these pages, these can be printed off or written out on blank paper. This will hopefully help reduce screen time and be enjoyable for the children. As always I wish to stress the importance of play time. If you child is playing away by themselves or with their siblings, that is fantastic. Class Work for Senior Infant 27 th April – 01 st May Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday English: 1. Dear Parents,

I hope that school at home is going well for you all.

Poem of the Week:

I Play All Day The rain can fall, The sun can go away. But I don’t stop, I play all day! My feet can get wet, The sky can get grey. But I don’t stop, I play all day. Some kids go inside, Some kids may not stay. But I don’t stop, I play all day!

Child reading:

1. All children - The website www.starfall.com is very good for small books which your child can sound out and have confidence in reading too.

2. Challenge - Continue (if your child is happy to) reading the books about Kitty - two pages a night is best. Write about the stories in your copy.

Storytime

And that was the oddest thing by Daniel Errico

I woke in the night to a noise from the kitchen,

So off I set out on a fact-finding mission.

Whatever it was, I did not have a clue.

As I got closer I heard a loud chew.

Page 16: Senior Infants Work April 27th - Scoil Mhuire Navan

The fridge door was open with food on the ground.

A tiny blue penguin was looking around!

He looked through our food and he tossed it aside.

He opened each can and shook out the inside.

“Excuse me!” I said, but he seemed not to care.

I shut the fridge door and he shot me a glare.

“Jelly,” he said as he held up some bread,

With smooth peanut butter, he must have just spread.

“Jelly?” I answered, “I... think we ran out,”

The little blue penguin, now wore a blue pout.

“Jelly,” he said as he waddled away.

Without any jelly, why would he stay?

I followed him out through our squeaky backdoor.

An igloo was there, that was not there before.

Page 17: Senior Infants Work April 27th - Scoil Mhuire Navan

He slid on his belly, inside, out of sight.

But, it wasn’t the oddest thing I saw that night.

I heard a loud ruckus and ran back to see,

A giant giraffe flicking through my tv.

He munched on some crisps and kept changing the channel

He wore a bathrobe that was made of red flannel.

“Excuse me!” I yelled but he turned up the sound,

And most of the crisps ended up on the ground.

He tossed up a few and he took a big bite.

But, it wasn’t the oddest thing I saw that night.

I heard water splashing in the bathroom upstairs,

And found a large octopus bathing in there.

She had my green shower cap on, just my luck.

I saw she had taken my new rubber duck.

Page 18: Senior Infants Work April 27th - Scoil Mhuire Navan

I said “Finish up!”, and she told me, “All right.”

But, it wasn’t the oddest thing I saw that night.

Back in my bedroom, a CRASH and a THUD.

Two lemurs were throwing around balls of mud.

My room was a mess and they both were to blame.

I swear I had just cleaned it up! Oh what a shame.

There was mud on the dresser, the desk, and the light.

But, it wasn’t the oddest thing I saw that night.

Outside I looked up, and I know it’s bizarre,

But guess what flew by me? A bright shooting star!

Page 19: Senior Infants Work April 27th - Scoil Mhuire Navan

I wished for the penguin to get all his jelly.

I wished the giraffe would stop using my telly.

I wished that the octopus there in my tub,

Would exit the bathroom and give it a scrub.

I wished that my room would somehow become clean.

I wished that this nonsense would all be a dream.

The lemurs both left. The giraffe had enough.

The octopus gave me back all of my stuff.

The blue penguin waddled right up to my feet.

He carried a sandwich, most ready to eat.

Then he flew off when he flapped both his wings

And that, of it all, was the oddest of things...

Questions at the end of the story:

Ø What animals did we hear about in the story? Ø Which animal do you think did the oddest thing? Ø Where do you think the animals came from? Ø Can you pick out some rhyming words in the story? Ø What foods did the animals like to eat? Ø What do you think the child’s family will say when they see the mess? Ø Why do you think that a penguin flying away is the oddest thing of the

night? ***Clue*** Think back to when we learnt all about penguins! Ø Challenge – Draw an animal you love doing an odd thing similar to the

ones in the story!!!

Finally please stay safe and follow the HSE guidelines on how to deal with this current situation. Tell the children I am thinking of them all and miss our lovely classroom.

If you need to contact me to ask any questions, or to send pictures of what the children have been working on at home, my email is [email protected]

Take care,

Miss Price.
