Disaster Impact: 2001-2016• ~11,000 disasters [Transport accidents, Floods]• 1.4+ million deaths [Earthquake]• 2.8+ million affected each year [Flood and drought]• Direct economic losses due to disasters (last decade) - ~

US$1.4 trillion• Climate change and water-related disasters account for 90%

of the 1,000 most disastrous events since 1990• In 2016, 31.1 m people were displaced – Over 75% due to

disasters
