Prep Information Days For children starting Prep in 2020

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members, Swimming will commence for all students from Prep through to Year 6 on Tuesday 15th October. This swimming program is at no cost to families. Details of the scheduled times and travel arrangements will be communicated to all families in the first week of Term 4. Students must wear sun safe swimming attire including a sun shirt, sunscreen, goggles and a swimming cap. The P&C association of Macleay Island State School have generously purchased 2 swimming platforms to ensure all children can access the water irrespective of height. Safety is always our priority and all staff teaching the swimming program have completed the necessary modules to work in the water with children. At all times there will safety spotter observing from the pool deck. Students repeatedly not following instructions from staff will be removed from the water to ensure they are not disadvantaging the learning or safety of others. Tomorrow we say farewell to our year 3 teacher Mrs Susan Mullins and we wish her family well as they take time to care for an ailing parent. Term 4 begins on Tuesday 8th of October and we will welcome Mrs Sally O’Leary to Macleay Island to work with students in year 3. Yours sincerely

Third Party Website Consent

Parental/guardian consent is a requirement by law under the Queensland Information Privacy Act 2009. Third party website consent forms need to be completed when students are required to create an account or provide personal information to a third party website which is any website which is accessed at school but hosted and managed outside of the Department of Education and Training (DoE) network.

We will be sending home a Third Party Website Consent form this week. It has listed websites requiring consent that teachers may use with students in any year level at Macleay Island State School. It is our preference that you Do Consent for your child to use these websites, because they are used to support your child’s learning. As it says on the form, your consent is not compulsory.

You can rest assured that our teachers have read the risk assessments for the websites they use and will work to ensure that you child’s privacy and personal details are protected.

On Friday 6 September the Governor of Queensland, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC visited Macleay Island State School. His Excellency was accompanied by his wife Mrs Kaye de Jersey, Official Secretary, Air Commodore Mark Gower AM LVO OAM (Mil) and Aide, Ms Amelia Long. The time spent at Macleay Island State School was part of a whole day organised by the Redland City Council. Mayor, Cr Karen Williams, Deputy Mayor, Cr Lance Hewlett, Cr Mark Edwards and Executive Officer to the Mayor, Mr Allan Mitchell also travelled with the Governor. Below are photos taken of the recent visit.

Thank you to all students who all wore school uniform and were absolutely on their best behaviour.
