• Save 3% because you incur no premium taxes in Level or Self-Funding.• Avoid ACA dictated premium rate ratio of “single” being 1 and “family” being 3. To meet Affordability Provision, a self-funded employer can tie the rate ratio to match their design decision objectives.• Allow movement toward a defined contribution approach.• Provide full access to claim data by month, as well as underlying cost driver data.

Uncomplicated PlansSelf-funded plans are less complicated than you might think. Compared to fully-insured health plans, self-funded plans are:

• Not required to participate in risk-adjustment system.• Not subject to Medical Loss Ratio provisions of ACA, nor the ACC annual insurance fee that began in 2014.• Not subject to deductible limitations under the Essential Health Benefits guidance.• Not subject to insurance reserve requirements.

Because self-funding is an ERISA plan for private sector employers,employers do not have to conform to State Mandated benefits.Additionally, self-funding allows employers to maintain their claims administrator and replace all other elements such as Stop Loss Coverage, Wellness Vendor, PPO Network, Pharmacy Benefit Manager, and more.
