Dining out, enjoying good food andgood company is one of life'spleasures. However, part of ageing well isensuring that our bodies receiveenough macro and micro nutrients tokeep it nourished and energised. Life is hectic even if we are retired andit is too easy to grab for a quickunhealthy snack or meal. Your body and mind neednourishment - like a care needs fuel. Meal planning is a good way to makesure you are making healthier foodoptions. Make one day a week to prepare aweekly menu, write a shopping listand maybe even prepare somehealthy snacks and meals for theweek.

We need to listen to ourbodies in order to age well. Incorporating some gentle exercise such as morning stretching, yoga and pilates will keepour bodies flexible and functionallyfit plus reduce stress and improveour mental well-being.

The British have a tradition whenthings aren't going well to 'make a cup of tea'. Take time out of yourday today to just 'be' and enjoy a cup of herbal tea. Herbal tea can have healingpowers, reduces stress andanxiety. Make it a celebration by using yourgood china (that is in the cupboardand never used). Drink tea to take time in your day torelax, breathe and enjoy.

One of my favourite self-care tipsis to take a few hours and lose myself in a book. This is when I truly relax. I laydown with a cuppa, step away frommy world for a while and becomeengrossed in the story andcharacters. Science has shown that reading has some amazing healthbenefits, including helping withdepression, cutting stress, andreducing the chances of developingAlzheimer's later in life. Create a cozy reading nook youcan escape to.

Immersing ourselves in naturegoing for bushwalks, gardening orjust sitting in a park or garden helpsus to relax, reduce stress & anxietyand improves our 'mindfulness'. Take time today to enjoy somesunshine and nature - but don'tforget the sunscreen!

An important part of self-care is todo things that bring us joy in life.Don't live with 'I wish I had donethat', 'I should have done that', because we can't go backand change things. What we can do is make every daycount and wring out every ounce ofjoy in each day. Life is too short so what is something you can do today to findjoy and happiness.

Sometimes it feels that the conceptof Mindfulness has become justanother fad or buzz word. I find thata shame because Mindfulnessadds so much value to our well-being. Forget the hype and take some time each day to think and breathe Some people find journaling agood way to collect their thoughts,others just like to sit quietly and think. Mindfulness reduces stress, allowsus to stop and just be in the moment and can bring richness toour lives.

Earlier in the book at #5 the taskwas to let go of perfectionism. Following on from that is to makepeace with our flaws. Yes newsflash - we are humanand we aren't perfect! We all have shortcomings. Some flaws can be endearing butmost of the time they are not. Instead of putting the focus on thenegative or completely ignoring it,reflect on your shortcomings andaccept that they do exist.

You can change if you want to butfirst you have to make peace andfind acceptance. With self-acceptance comes self-confidence.
