PART 1 GEI'JERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION

A. This section covers the contract item Selective Demolition , which includes removing and disposing of the following existing features at the work sites, as shown:

1. Knights Landing:

a. Gate Structure: **** Stoplogs, stoplog storage box, manual trolley hoist system, slide gates and support structure, combination gates and support structure, catwalk handrails , top deck handrails , tie bars, and actuators .

b. Control Building: Exhaust fan and Motor Control Center's (MCC) equipment.

c. Selective demolition also includes salvaging the existing trash barrier.

2. Sacramento lVIaintenance Yard:

a. Asphalt and concrete .

1.02 RELATED SECTIONS

A. Supplementary General Conditions , General Conditions, Division 1 sections, and Drawings apply to this section. This section may require direct correlation with the following sections of the contract:

1. Section 02240 - Dewatering.

A. The following publications form a part of this specification to the extent referenced. Application of these publications shall conform to Document 00702 - Interpretation of the Contract, Paragraph 2:

1. U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Reclamation (USBR):

1.04 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit the following:

1. Plans, methods, and equipment to be used for demolition operations.

2. Measures to control dust, noise, and the release of any hazardous materials.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 GENERAL

A. Notify the Engineer at least 2 working days prior to the start of demolition operations .

B. The location of the miscellaneous facilities to be demolished are as shown.

C. The drawings define the portion of the structures to be removed. Unless otherwise shown, the Contractor shall not make rough cuts or breaks that exceed the limits of the demolition shown.

3.02 CUTTING

A. Saw cut concrete to a true line where new concrete is to be placed against existing concrete, as shown and directed .

B. Make cuts normal to exposed surface unless otherwise shown.

C. Make cut edges clean and sharp.

3.03 SALVAGE AND REMOVAL OF EQUIPMENT OR MATERIALS

A. The Contractor shall remove the following eqUipment and materials from work sites as the Contractor's property. This list is a partial list and the Contractor shall also remove other materials from the work sites resulting from demolition op-erations.

2. Items to be Salvaged:

a. Knights Landing: Trash barrier.

1) Salvaged items listed above shall be delivered to the Department's Sacramento Maintenance Yard Facility at the following address:

B. Materials not directed to be salvaged shall be removed from the work site as the Contractor's property. Removed materials shall be disposed of in an approved disposal site, and the Contractor shall obtain permits required for such dis osal.

C. Repair:

1. Replace concrete outside of prescribed removal lines which is damaged or loosened during cutting and removal operations .

2. Replace damaged concrete in accordance with USBR Specification M-47.

3.04 DISPOSAL

A. Materials containing lead paint as shown in Appendix IV shall be removed and disposed of as directed by Section 13280 - Hazardous Waste Disposal.

2. Complete design calculations by a licensed engineer for various parts of the slide gate furnished:

a. The calculations shall include conditions of operation, such as maximum loading, and friction factors.

b. The calculations shall include stem buckling.

3. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

4. Material list of parts and components.

5. Weights of individual components and assembled unit.

6. Seismic computations for the frame and actuator assembly, including interface and pedestal, in accordance with the seismic criteria specified.

7. Anchor calculations showing that the anchors can withstand the maximum thrust of the actuator, weight loads, pressure loads, and seismic loads, simultaneously in accordance with the seismic criteria specified. Anchorage calculations shall be stamped and signed by a Registered Structural Engineer in California.

8. The operating force of the slide gates as required by the gate manufacturer and the forces output on the stem by the electric actuators. The required data is as follows:

a. Break out load in pound force.

b. Reseat load in pound force.

c. Maximum possible stem load in pound force.

d. Thread factor, correlating torque and thrust, for the stem.

9. Manufacturer's catalog cuts and data sheets for mechanical equipment.

10. Operation and Maintenance manuals for the slide gates.

11. Installation procedures prior to delivery of the gates.

12. Recommended bolt torques and prestressing procedure.

13. Nameplates and nameplate engraving schedule.

14. A complete list of special tools and spare parts to be furnished, including appliances, handling devices and templates.

2.02 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

A. Slide Gates:

1. Unless otherwise specified , the slide gates shall conform to AWWA C561.

2. The electric actuator's requirements shall be as speci·fied in Section 11283 - Gate Actuators. The actuator shall be capable of functioning properly with the available power, wh ich is listed in the schedule and shall be capable of operating the gate under the heads specified in the schedule below.

3. Slide Gate Assemblies:

a. Each slide gate shall be rising stem types and shall include slide , gate guides, gate frame, stem, stem cover, actuator support and lubricating guns with lubricating grease, if lubrication is required by the gate design.

b. Each slide gate shall be a rising stem stainless steel slide gate with seals all around .

NOTES TO ABOVE TABLE:

1. The specified head is measured to the centerline of the gate.

2. The design head as defined here is the maximum differential head that the gate shall be designed to withstand, with the safety factors specified in A\fWIJA C561 .

3. Gates shall be designed to operate in a partially opened position of minimum 3% to 5% of the total opening.

2. Slide:

a. The slide shall have horizontal and vertical ribs of sufficient strength to withstand the specified design head without exceeding a deflection of 1/720 of the span. The slide shall have tongues on each side extending the full length of the slide, and shall be designed to transmit the water load uniformly to the seating surfaces. The slide and reinforcing stiffeners shall be constructed of stainless steel plate or shapes.

3. Gate Frame:

a. The gate frame assembly shall have a flange frame and shall be constructed of formed stainless steel plate or shapes. The Frame design shall allow for mounting directly to a wall with stainless steel anchor bolts and grout ****

**** Buckling calculation for the frame shall be provided to show the gate frame design is adequate.

b. The structural portion of the gate frame that incorporates the seat/seals shall be formed into a one-piece shape for rigidity . To provide the support in an unseating head condition , the guide members shall include adequate gussets. ****

c. The frame shall extend to accommodate the entire height of the slide when the slide is in the fully opened position. For the 66 inch gates the frame shall also extend to locate the actuator.

d. Yoke shall be provided across the top of the frame members for the self contained gates to provide a one-piece rigid assembly for a self contained slide gate . The yoke shall be sufficiently strong so that no further reinforcing will be required and to support the operating device and the lift and thrust forces. The arrangement of the yoke shall be such that the disc and stem can be removed without disconnecting the yoke .

5. Stem:

a. The stem shall be solid stainless steel of the specified grade. Opening or closing of the gate under the specified operating conditions shall not cause stresses in the stem to exceed the allowable stresses specified in the Design Requirements section.

1. Complete description in sufficient detail to permit item by item comparison with the specifications.

2. Complete design calculations by a licensed engineer for various parts of the combination gate furnished:

2.02 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

A. Combination Gates:

1. Unless otherwise specified, the combination gates shall conform to the applicable portions of AWWA C561 .

2. Combination Gate Assemblies :

a. The slide portion of the combination gates shall be rising stem type and shall include slide, gate guides, gate frame, stem, stem cover, and lubricating guns with lubricating grease, if lubrication is required by the gate design.

b. The flap will be designed to allow free outflow and prevent backflow for maximum seating heads up to 22 .5 feet.

d. The combination gates shall be self-contained. A yoke shall be provided across the top of the frame members to provide a one-piece rigid assembly . The yoke shall be sufficiently strong to support the operating device and the lift and thrust forces. The yoke shall be designed to allow removal of the slide .

5. Stem:

a. The gate stem shall be solid . Opening or closing of the gate under the specified operating conditions shall not cause stresses in the stem to exceed the allowable stress specified in Design Requirements section .

b. The critical buckling load for the stem shall be a minimum of 150 percent of the output thrust of the actuator in the stalled motor condition . The following formula shall be used for calculating the critical buckling load:

b. Manufacturer's certification of rated-load test at rated power factor with the ambient conditions, altitude, and fuel grade recorded.

c. Certified rating chart showing curves of brake horsepower, torque, and fuel consumption for the engine generator. The chart shall show percentage deratings for altitude and temperature. Curves shall include intermittent and overloading duty. '

d. Six copies of certified test data and results of factory testing.

e. Field test report.

2. Fuel System:

a. Certifications: Certifications of pressure test, leakproof test, and structural integrity test conforming to **** UL 2085 and CFC certifications for fuel storage tanks.

b. Field test report for the fuel tank.

1.05 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

A. Seismic Criteria:

1. Equipment including anchorage shall withstand the stresses caused by an earthquake. For design purposes, seismic loads in a horizontal direction shall be 1.0W; W being the combined weight of equipment and fluid within the equipment acting at the center of mass. The vertical seismic loads shall be 1.0W and considered to act simultaneously with the horizontal loads in a direction which produces the most severe equipment stresses.

2. Calculations shall establish to the satisfaction of the Engineer that the equipment to be furnished meets the specified seismic requirements. The calculations shall be accompanied with a certificate of compliance attesting to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance with the seismic requirements.

3. The certificate of compliance shall be signed by the Contractor's representative and a California State registered professional engineer qualified in the field of seismic analyses.

b. Secondary Tank:

1) Monitoring port on interstice of secondary tank

2) Emergency pressure-relief vent opening sized per t\lFPA 30.

9. Fill Assembly: The tank fill assembly shall be lockable to prevent tampering . Primary tank fill connection which includes drop tube, dry disconnect consisting of a 4 inch adaptor and coupling , and an overfill protection system. The overfill protection system shall not allow filling the tank beyond 90 percent of primary tank capacity. The overfill protection system shall automatically shut off the flow of fuel to the tank when the quantity of liquid fuel in the tank reaches 90 percent of tank capacity. For rigid hose fuel delivery system, an approved means shall be provided to empty the fill hose into tank after the automatic shutoff device is activated.

10. Tank Gauging: Fuel storage tank shall include fuel level gauges.

11 . Leak Detection: A leak detection switch shall be mounted inside the secondary tank and wired to the engine generator set's control panel.

12. Seismic Criteria: The fuel tank, supports, anchor bolts , assembled piping, valves, gauging devices, and pressure relief devices attached to the tank shall be designed for seismic criteria and wind load criteria as specified in Paragraph 1.05, Design Requirements, when under full fuel load , at maximum operating pressure .

13. Signage: The tank shall be labeled with fuel type and capacity. Warning and identification signs shall be posted to clearly identify hazards. All piping shall be labeled.

14. The tank shall be designed and constructed in accordance with **** UL 2085 and shall meet the requirements of the California Fire Code and NFPA 30.

15. Fabrication and testing of the tank shall be approved by the CSFM.

16. Provide a 112 inch minimum air gap between the bottom of the fuel storage tank and the concrete support pad .

C. Exhaust System:

1. The engines shall be furnished with an exhaust system which shall include a heavy-duty, residential type silencer with condensate pipe, trap and drain valves. The exhaust piping shall be galvanized
