The USG has issued a memorandum providing overarching Counterfeit PreventionGuidance in an effort to thwart the growing use of counterfeit items and the threatthey pose to the safety and operational effectiveness of DoD systems. Thememorandum emphasized the importance of using genuine OEM parts. The USG isdeveloping policy and strategies designed to detect and prevent the introduction ofcounterfeit materiel.

In anticipation of these developing DoD policies and procedures and the associatedchanges to the DFARS, organizations performing maintenance affecting systemperformance or operation, the preservation of life, or safety of operating personnel areencouraged to adapt the policy of ‘Only Original’ parts.
